Blue Hawaii and Blue Hawaiian Cocktail Recipes:
    BLUE HAWAII COCKTAIL
Bartender Harry Yee created the Blue Hawaii cocktail in 1957 while he was working at the Hawaiian Village in Waikiki. A Bols sales representative came to Yee asking for a drink made with the company’s blue curaçao liqueur and the Blue Hawaii is the result of his tinkering. Yee was also known for possibly being the first to add banana to a Daiquiri as well as his extravagant and unique garnishes. Apparently the original was shaken but it was commonly served frozen too. The original also called for sour mix so I opted for a house made sour mix with equal parts of lemon, lime and simple.
    INGREDIENTS
    22.5mL White Rum (0.75 oz)
    22.5mL Vodka (0.75 oz)
    22.5mL Blue Curacao (0.75 oz)
    90mL Pineapple Juice (3 oz)
22.5mL House Sour Mix (0.75 oz)
    METHOD
    1. Combine all the ingredients into your cocktail shaker
    2. Shake with ice
    3. Strain into a cocktail glass with crushed ice
    4. Garnish with a pineapple wedge, cherry and umbrella
    HOUSE SOUR MIX:
    1 Part Fresh Lemon Juice
    1 Part Fresh Lime Juice
    1 Part Simple Syrup
    BLUE HAWAIIAN COCKTAIL
The Blue Hawaiian is a variation on the Blue Hawaii but I’d argue that it more closely resembles a Pina Colada than a Blue Hawaii. According to Simon Difford, it was PROBABLY created by Don the Beachcomber in Los Angeles. This drink can be served frozen or on the rocks - I prefer to serve it on crushed ice as I’m not a big fan of frozen drinks.
    INGREDIENTS
    45mL White Rum (1.5 oz)
    22.5mL Blue Curacao (0.75 oz)
22.5mL Cream of Coconut (0.75 oz)
    60mL Pineapple Juice (2 oz)
    METHOD
    1. Combine all the ingredients into your cocktail shaker
    2. Shake with ice
    3. Strain into a cocktail glass with crushed ice
    4. Garnish with a pineapple wedge, cherry and umbrella

I really like some twist on Blue Hawaiian. It's 40ml of white rum, 40ml of classic Malibu, 20ml of Blue Curacao and 60ml of pineapple juice. It won't be so creamy like that one with Coco Lopez inside, but it's delicious

Steve, for the Blue Hawaiian try adding 1/2 oz lime juice and reduce the cream of coconut to 1/2 oz. Waaaaaay better and more balanced.

  • @KatraMoo
    @KatraMoo 4 роки тому +1

A short cut is to use coconut flavored rum and skip the Coco Lopes crème. This makes the drink less cloudy.
In addition you can also use a pineapple flavored rum, and skipping the pineapple juice. The drink comes out a crystal clear blue color and tastes almost the same.
The problem then is that you have only alcohols in the drink and nothing cutting or mixing with it, thereby making it more potent per ounce/ml basis that is it has to other ingredients. Without the juice and coconut you also have less sugars, and making it less of a hangover hazard.
Alcoholic beverages + sugars = Increased chance of and/or worse of a hangover.

For anyone who is reading these to use coco Lopez if you’re actually working in a bar and need it to be smooth and creamy without the hot water every time I like to warm up the can with hot water until it’s complete liquid again and then shake it with the top on and then put a few containers worth in my blender and keep it on low for like 5 minutes and it is super creamy and doesn’t solidify even when refrigerated after that point. I keep it in a bar pourer at work and it makes colada’s super easy to make when in a rush :)

I’m different then these guys, I’ve never been a professional bartender and I absolutely 100% will always choose a Boston (2 piece) shaker over a cobbler(3 piece) never used a Parisian, so can’t speak to that. I found that although a 3 piece is easier to use for beginners, I quickly switched to a 2 piece as I found it more reliable, my 3 piece would always get stuck together and I’d either have to hit it against the counter or worse, under hot water, to get it separated.

blue hawaii is my fav drink. couple ideas for variation; let the solids settle out of the pineapple juice and use just the juice. the drink will be a bit sweeter and will be much more blue. 2) try layering in the glass over ice. juice, sour mix (I use about half that much myself), rum, vodka, top with the blue curacao. stir with your straw b4 drinking. lastly, to mash up the drinks, make a blue hawaii but use coconut rum. pretty much hits the middle ground exactly. cheers :)

The Blue Hawaii is improved if you double the white rum and cut out the vodka. Then it's a Blue Hawaiian with sour mix instead of cream of coconut

Why do you need the sweet coconut cream? You said the drink was too sweet, so use less coconut cream unsweetened. Sometimes less is more

Hi Steve, if you put some color(as the one for cakes) to a triple sec to get a Blue Curaçao, would ir affect the expiration date? How much time would be good to consider effective that mix? Greetings from Monterrey, Mx

Can I use Orange curaçao instead of the blue one?
I hate blue curaçao taste, I think it ruins everything and I suppose it's the color taste fault because orange curaçao it's ok!

If I cannot pick up coconut cream, when I have a house party, I usually just use a coconut rum. I also take a slice of lime, squeeze it in the drink, and then put the rest in, so while I drink, the lime seeps in and the drink actually gets better.

🍹😋👌🏻those look soo good! I agree that the blue Hawaiian can be too sweet, because ive made piña colada using the Coco Lopez. Do you think that if maybe by adding a bit of coconut cream(because it's not sweetened) to the Coco Lopez, would help it still come out good, but not as sweet? 🤔
