I was walking along one evening years ago by the French market and out a doorway almost knocking me over was Robbie Robertson who was coming down a stairway. I saw him head next door to where they were shooting this video at the time. I guess they'd been on break. Robbie had evidently fallen in love with New Orleans and was recording here with Daniel Lanois. I'd just returned here from a painful marriage gone bad. It was the 90's and I'd come back to my woods.
I know. He always was clumsy
The world wasn't ready for Robbie Robertson solo albums! Great underrated guitarist and vocalist!
You're right! LOVED his straight up native albums he did 2 Red Road and another I can't remember name of

We've got some catching up to do at this point.
I agree 100% this shit is absolutely killer. I’ve loved this from the first listen.

Godspeed Robbie! I will miss you so much!
Essential in every way. Robbie at his absolute finest. Genius and way more. Storyville the title says it all so well. Im entranced.
These people didn't play with just anyone.Robbie had respect.
What a devastating loss to the world . Robbie’s contribution to music during the 20th and 21st centuries will remain historic
If you effectively suspect what's good for you, go buy this record - even though it won't do Robbie any good at this point.
Bruce Hornsby composed this song and play keyboards on it and backing vocals
I miss this coming on the radio... Love this song!
I am Eastern Cherokee and I know him well, I need my clan...is.......DEER CLAN
"Where did you find this guy" I told them Bob dylan
I have loved the Storyville album every since it was released in 91 when I lived in a small town of Bendigo, Victoria, I was 21. I never thought I would live in the UK for 10 years, Sweden, Canada, back to Australia and back to Canada. My world was small and I lived down under.
Last week I had I visited New Orleans stayed at the Astor on Bourbon & Canal, I was in Storyville. OMG. I visited a couple of plantations and these songs and Robbie's story telling had new life.
Thanks Robbie
Mmm...Love this song! Bruce Hornsby at the keyboards
Yep. Bruce also did his own version of this song which is on his G/H album.
I still think Storyville is his masterpiece. Oh, well, maybe Contact from Redboy..."
I used to play this album all the time when it first came out. Man it still sounds good.
me too and I'm A Todd Rundgren Fan! go figure?
Yes, me too. Both this record and Robbie's first solo album the aponymous "Robbie Robertson" were in heavy rotation for me and were really important to me at the time ... This is an unheralded and really amazing record. Love the quest visits by Wardell Quezergue (horn arrangement) and the Rebirth Brass Band (small section at end of "Shake This Town").
It's amazing how long ago it was and I used to listen to this song all the time on the way to niagara falls and just anywhere.
My daughter 1st on left dancing
NIce!!!
My mom got me into Robbie Robertson and holy cow was I blown away at his early works he was really the very first Indigenous singer I had ever heard
Wow, this is a lucky night for me. Lots of Robbie videos that I've never seen before :D
The walls might not be able to talk but the ghosts might be able to. You have to ask them.
LOVE the inclusion of the horn section! Adds a tasty dimension. Contact...is a masterpiece!
So love the drumming by Russell Batiste, of the Batiste family (Jon Batiste, et al).
ThaTS Me juggling the Machetes
You are quite talented Miss Myrna 😮
GO BACK GO BABK GO BACK TO YOUR WOODS!
What a great song. I never heard this till this last weekend when i was at the end of the world at the very corner of the continental USA, Neah Bay Washington. I was listening to the only radio station that came in up there while i was fishing. The radio station was out of Canada! I heard this for the first one time and immediately liked it. I was blown it was from Robbie Robertson!

We got fire on the bayou,
Injuns here they come
From the reservations
Here they come, here they come
Injuns here they come
How did you get in the video? Nice juggling.
Someone had seen me street performing in the French Quarter and had came back looking for me but I took a day off that particular day and lucky for me I had decided to spend my free time IN THE Quarter ....lol who doesn't like going to where you work on your one day off.. ...anyhow the other amazing street performers working that day passed me a card that was given to them and if they saw me to pass the info along...I called and was given a time to show up at the club STORYVILLE ....I met and chatted with Robbie afterwards...I didn't even realize who I was talking to ...but that's another story...
Love you Robbie! ✌️

This - Robbie's second Solo album, was more of a concept album than the first time out - actually no! On second thought, the first was more conceptual. Sorry, I was thinking and typing on the fly.
R.I.P. :(

What year this album came out ?
santorini 1991 I think
He's talkin about Woodstock..
Jesus Christ no wonder the singing duties were given to Levon, Rick, and Richard!
Haha! Yup! Terrible singer!
I wouldn't say he was terrible, but he couldn't compete with Richard, Levon and my favorite Rick. Robbie was aware of that as well, but he wrote great lyrics and played great guitar.@@trombonedave68
I love this tune from this equally great disc. Thanks!
