"Once Were Brothers - The Band" brought me here; Fantastic documentary! I highly recommend giving it a watch if you haven't already. Thanks for the memories Robbie & The Band.💔
R.I.P. Robbie. Not many here understand what the Movie "The Last Waltz" means to me. I grew up in East Germany and the film ran in cinemas for 2 Weeks. Every time sold out. It wasn't easy to get tickets. But I saw that four times. 😀
A music icon left us now. You gave so much to us through your great music, sound and songwriting, both in The Band, but also later as a solo artist. A modest, calm, and a bit shy person outside the music world, but so clear, strong and loud through the music you created. RIP, Robbie
Kudos to Robbie and The Band. Sounds like the drug addictions they had played a role in splitting. It’s not easy having 5 Beethovens in one band!!! Nothing lasts forever. Thank you to The Band for making incredible music that will last much longer than all of us on this forum. One of a kind no better 5 band members ever!!!
Death will never take away your memory of the hearts of those who loved and continue to love your beautiful music. Big, huge and unforgettable Robbie!!
I came here after hearing today, Aug. 9, 2023, that WE LOST JAIME (ROBBIE) ROBERTSON ..........age 80. A big blow. His autobiography "Testimony" is an awesome read. If you miss him, listen to his music and read his book............holy cow, I'm still in shock.
As we age we forgive and long for the connection that is not available there when the people we loved are gone. Thank you Robbie. We are all forgiven and we all can forgive.
Very sad to hear Robbie has passed. I've been listening to his music for decades, and also loved hearing him being interviewed. Especially I remember hearing him on the Roger Scott show circa '88 talking about the inspiration behind Crazy River, etc. You'll be missed RR.
Watching this, I felt like I was watching Life Is A Carnival in a photo-montage, with Robbie telling the story of The Band's ups, downs and eventual demise. I was one of the devoted. Someone who knew them from The Hawks days at the Le Coq d'Or and just followed on through. Few bands have truly long-standing careers, but The Band's music is legendary. Even when feelings & egos collided, there were moments of greatness. Every album had at least one track that EVERYONE can say, "Hey, I remember that!" At their best The Band was 'synergy' exemplified. A perfect blend of voice, music and rhythm. 5 men. One band. Sadly, perfection is shortlived. Like a Supernova, when it was over, it was over - leaving a vast 'black hole' in music that has never been filled. Their music deserves to live on, and people like us who dug it from day 1, will keep it alive through succeeding generations.
This is a beautiful song, it reminds me of my brother who recently died of cancer....miss him alot, and good person, also a good soldier..(Viet Nam veteran).....RIP BROTHER, 😢✌

our rock mostly has 2 components ---the meaningful lyrics needed for OUR time, and the melody---voice and instruments accompany as being necessary to a picture of an orator in a stone open theater. i am sure it was difficult for Robbie to create following ALL his previous creations---kinda the sign of a true artist.
This was a great documentary. One of the greatest bands of my generation. Robbie is one of the greatest writers to even pick up a pen. Levon, Rick, Richard and Robbie all blessed with voices that will never be assembled again. You never realize just what you have until it's gone. I lost my best friend in 2004 , my life has never been the same. I miss him every day. Robbie, I miss your brothers too, you all gave us a gift that will live on - thank you
Another great passes away. We were blessed to have had the honor to hear these guys while they lived because that's what they did...lived ! I feel like I've lost another friend here RIP Robbie
Our hearts hurt for you. You put your feelings into this song. Sorry for your loss Robbie. Thank you for your contributions to the group and giving us fondest memories of the best of times in music.

Robbie, you left an indelible mark on rock music, your passion to tell the story of the First Nation through your music. I watched The Last Waltz over 100 times, 21 in a row!! You are first amongst equals...RIP.
I Must say this song reminds me of all the musicians I have played with and have now passed on ...as I'm sure you know of that kind of loss ❤so the only thing left is to keep playing music ...make new connections...wonderful song Robbie!
Who says they don't make them like they used to. New music is great music. This album is prof . Robbies allways on point . It's the closest thing to Dylan these days . Never stop going forward . 👊
I disagree to agree🔃agree to disagree, too! Global friend gutuierrez, I don't like today's music?🔮The music of📹today's nothing like it was during The Band's heyday.🤔To be honest, I don't call music music, if the production costs more than the equipment, if it can't be played without electricity or if the costumes are scant, to be honest.❌Those are all red flags to the 🎶musical🔮knowing. 🇨🇦✌🏻🎶♥️✨🌍💫
RIP Robbie. So, in my early teens Brian Hyland came on the scene, he was my first heartthrob, and I loved I'm Afraid to Go Home. Decades later, live performance, he said, "This is my favourite song." Between those times, I heard Joan and then the Band do The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down and I loved it. (Garth's wailing organ in The Last Waltz was the best version ever.) And now this, Once Were Brothers. The Happy Hunting Grounds just added a new singer at the Pow Wow in the sky.
I met Garth through mutual friends in the 80s. I felt fortunate for the opportunity. Great music, great message, great beat all packed into a memorable listening experience. You never forget those cool tunes. 😎🤓
Rest in peace Robbie. I’ll admit I wasn’t the biggest the band fan before I saw the once were brothers documentary. But once I saw it I knew in my heart I was missing out. Thanks
Robert, what a beautiful song, will be immortalized in our hearts as well as so many others from The Band. Come to Brazil to introduce yourself, it would be a dream to meet you. I love your music. I wish you much health, peace and long life. God bless.

Why is it musical legends seem to leave in August?

Ohhh man, RIP Robbie!! 😭😭😭😭
Just imagining what Richard's levon and ricks voices with garths organs, would have done to this song.
Nah, it's perfect as is...
The high harmony on the choruses sounds eerily like Rick Danko
Yeah
BATTERY ELECTRIC VEHICLE Levon and Rick have the arguably some of the very. best vocals in rock music
A brilliant point that you make, Robertson was the songwriter, the others added excellence.
