    Hey Coach I really appreciate this video a lot more then the other ones on how to build range. You told how people do which hurts your range and tell us how to improve and fix to build range. I had a really bad problem with the shoulder dip as a kid and still have a little problem on that today but this video told me that was the error which none of the other channels videos had or I seen. Also for editing make the text green on what you should do so its more vibrant and grabs the attention more on what to fix. Thanks!

You should be using more lower body the more you move back and your motion should be become smoother and more of a "one motion" shot when your at 3pt. You're generating more power from your lower body when your at the 3. When your close you're using more upper body. All in all ....your mechanics and aiming should stay the same

    How to add nba range to your jump shot: Mastery? Practice?
    Just my thoughts:
    - Shooters in video already have good range. There wasn't any real scenario where they were "taught"
    - Camera is dizzying, the last short was great. Focusing on the shooter's form was awesome, set to slow motion to appreciate.
    - "How to" might be better addressed by showing drills or motions to go through to actually answer how it can be done.
    - When people search for "adding range", this usually means people who haven't really practiced shooting or are having a hard time understanding the mechanics. This video can be better if it focused on the awesome points below.
    Awesome points:
    - Focus on mechanics. (can help a lot if you take a video of yourself)
    - When shooting, aim to have the ball release never go below your chin (too high is rarely a problem if you can make it work)
    - When you twist your body, hips or shoulder when shooting, try not to. Move closer and practice there.
    - Footwork: before and after shooting should be similar. Landing is ideal if you only move a foot forward after a shot.
    - Ball pickup to Shooting: As you raise the ball to shoot, make sure its not too far away nor too close (and deep with shoulder "digging')
    - Follow through: Hands should flick forward, to help with the motion, try to point at the rim after releasing a shot.
    Personally, the most helpful part starts at 12:00
    Play on slowmo, record yourself and compare/adjust.

    Not sure what’s the point of keep asking them to purposely do things they don’t normally do to “show” it’s wrong, thats not how they normally shoot you can see they feel awkward and laugh about how ridiculously the things they are told to do just to miss badly. The structure of the video could be better by capturing real bad habits and forms player do in game/practice.

    • @ILB
      @ILB  Рік тому +42

      No, that's not accurate. These are higher-level players than a lot of our viewers and have far different personal shooting issues than the majority of our viewers. So it's important to show the viewers different issues they may be facing as there are numerous issues players face. Furthermore, feeling the "wrong" way of things isn't as counterproductive as one would think. The best way to learn something is hot and you shouldn't touch it, is to feel the burn. Typically once you know, you won't make the mistake again.

    • @Thekidisalright
      @Thekidisalright Рік тому +8

      @@ILB lol, if you really want to relate to your viewers then don’t choose these “high level” players and get some beginners instead. The people who liked my comments shared the same sentiment, it’s just constructive criticism, not sure if you could see it that way thou. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @absorbcontact
      @absorbcontact Рік тому +2

      @@ILB I agree, let athletes feel the "wrong" way, actually can be very powerfull and productive in a safe practice setting.
      Especially for beginners and young players *differential learning* has huge potential, since DL constantly and randomly changing the execution of a skill (e.g. foot position on shooting, you let players shoot from wide, narrow, stagger, parallel & "normal" in a random order), so you not only let athletes explore different movement variations but more important let them (self-)discover what works best for them and to learn to perform a skill in multitude ways, this also naturally expands the amount of possible solutions.
      There are literally hundreds of possible DL conditions & constraints you could add just alone for shooting: standing position (vertical, bend or lean: forward, backward, sideway) hand position (overhead, in front, behind the back, on the side, under the hip, touch X) eyes (open, closed, left closed, right closed, focus X, re-focus) distance & angle (close, deep, inbetween, 45°, 90°, 180°, turned degree X) balls (heavy, light, small, large, etc.) and so on. The overall goal for DL shooting (independent of the actual movement variation) is still to make the shot (back rim and down or swish = BRADs).
      In DL techniques, you basicly let athletes choose movement variations inbetween two "extremes". They naturally get a grasp of what is feeling "right" for them and what feels akward with time and space - in general the human body is really good in relation to self-organisation. For example, if you would jump as high as you can from both feet, your body naturally would self-organize to land in a safe and balanced position (unless you force otherwise), you wouldn't land with super wide and spread out feet or in a narrow position or in any kind of a narrow or wide stagger stance or just on one leg.

    • @lb259
      @lb259 Рік тому +2

      @@ILB this was an interesting demonstration of bad shooting habits, but I think a bigger challenge is how to unlearn those bad habits. Because once you've developed them, they are in your muscle memory and don't feel awkward (like they would for someone with good habits). You are often unaware of them until someone points them out to you or you see yourself on a video. So it would be good to add some tips how to break these habits like you did in some past videos (for example, standing from a chair to avoid going down with body while going up with the ball).

If you bring the ball up to your right eye tap your inner thigh with the basketball before going into your shot. If you do this and it’s comfortable that’s probably your release point.
      But it also depends on how old you are, strong you are, how comfortable you are at shooting, your age, and even your hand size, wingspan, and height. In my opinion, if your below 6’1 and you shoot by your nose or mouth you’re OK.
      Take Trae Young for example.
