Can 1 player carry a team. Short answer is no. Mcdaivd for example plays about 20 mins a night or 1/3 of the game. There are to many other players involved for one man to carry. Long answer sometimes a super star just has themselves a game and wins it themselves. But it’s rare and won’t lift a team over the top though best of 7 playoffs and 82 game regular season. Edit for comparison a nba game has a 12 player roster. A hockey team has 12 forwards. 6 d men and someone in the pipes.
No a player cannot carry a team like bron did or any nba player has. It’s because there’s 19 players/skaters that make it on the ice in a game compared to the 8 or so players that make it on in a nba game. You could argue a goalie can carry a team, just not to the extent of nba superstars.

In an era of very poor goaltending and a wider gap between worst and best in the league. Hockey has gotten so good there is no comparison between today and his era but at the same time Gretz didn't have the same coaching, training and developmental system that kids have today.
