Official NHL Charging Rule (Rule 607) “Charging is the action where a player takes more than two strides or travels an excessive distance to accelerate through a body check for the purpose of punishing the opponent. This includes skating or leaving one’s feet (jumping) into the opponent to deliver a check, accelerating through a check for the purpose of punishing the opponent, or skating a great distance for the purpose of delivering a check with excessive force.” Left the ice before contact. Definition charging penalty.
That's what I thought. I knew it said something about leaving the feet somewhere in that rule. Should probably split it into 2 cause it sounds weird when you're standing still
He didn’t leave his feet to deliver a check, he was stationary and defending himself against the hit you want him to just relax and take the full force of the hit?

Dude I was just sitting here in my chair at my desk, not moving laterally despite the wheels, and I pulled the lever to raise myself up a few inches and got called for charging. In my defense, a 6'2" 210lb man was skating directly at me at 20mph. Not a reviewable call, unfortunately.
“People don’t want to say it, but, part of playoffs (ie: hockey) is trying to hurt every player on the other team, and the more guys you take out (ie: force to stop playing through injury), the more advantage your team has”. - Brad Marchand, Boston Bruins Captain, May, 2024. FINALLY, can we ALL stop saying, “He/I wasn’t trying to hurt the guy.”? OF COURSE they are trying to “hurt” each other. If you can legally RUN A PLAYER (who is playing the puck) THROUGH THE BOARDS, this is “hockey” (this is NOT basketball; it’s the complete opposite of basketball). If the player’s shoulder is dislocated on the player, that’s HIS problem, not yours. If the guy’s ribs are cracked, that’s HIS problem, not yours. If the opponent gets a deep thigh contusion that forces him out of the 3rd period, then, that’s HIS problem, not yours, and you have done your job, as a professional hockey player.
