The distance between Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and Sunrise, Florida, USA is 2,543 miles/4093 kilometers. This will be the longest distance between two cities in the Stanley Cup Final in NHL history.
I would guess the longest between any two cities in the finals in the history of any North American sport.
This travel will benefit the Oilers more so than Panthers
@@Hornsfan64 The 2009 ECHL Kelly Cup Final featured the Alaska Aces and South Carolina Stingrays. Anchorage, AK and Charleston, SC are 4,481.3 miles apart.
The 1925 and 1926 Stanley Cup Finals were both between Montreal and Victoria, British Columbia. This wasn't as far apart, but they didn't travel by airplane. A transcontinental train trip took 2-3 days, or more, so all the games were played in just one of the cities. This was back when the NHL champion faced the Pacific Coast Hockey Association (PCHA) champion for the Cup, so they probably alternated east and west.
vancouver - miami is a bit further.
There’s a saying in hockey. “ dude can stick handle in a phone booth “ McDavids the epitome of that saying. His skills are absolutely insane and I’ve played and watched hockey my entire life.
I worked 20 years in sportscasting...never heard that saying.
@@firebird7479 are you Canadian?
It's not just the skills he possesses but it's the speed he processes information. It's like he goes into Neo-mode and everything slows down for him, while he's going 100 mph.
@@firebird7479really? Are you new to hockey or not from North America? It's a pretty common saying in hockey.
from Edmonton here! haven't felt the city this excited since 2006 hahah. connor McDavid has always been our hope and prayer... lets go boys!!
As a bruins fan, beat the hell outta them, oilers in 6
@@FempireAudios Oilers fan first and foremost but always cheer for the Bruins in the east, love them for consistently ending Toronto's hopes and dreams lol cheers!
That's why they call him McJesus
5:50 I went to High School with Derek Ryan. I graduated with his big sister. Her son plays hockey with my son (who proudly wears his uncles old Spokane Jr Chief jersey). Really awesome to see a coaching staff put #10 Ryan right where he needed to be, 1st line penalty killer unit. Skinner was a monster, and as a goalie dad, it was fun to watch.
mcdavid is the most SKILLED player to ever play the game and after his career with all his trophies and accomplishments hell be known as the best to ever do it behind Gretzky
I'm an Edmontonian. You have no idea how nuts the city is right now. It's amazing!! GO OILERS GO! Clap clap clapclapclap. P.S. that first goal by McDavid is astounding. My friends and I kept playing it in slow motion. Could not believe it.
this is how i feel when watching european football videos lol
There was a very good baseball player from the late 90s/2000s named Chuck Knoblauch.
McDavid is NHL’s Messi, Draisaitl is Naymar and Hyman is Suarez in their prime at Barca. Stanley Cup is harder to win than UEFA Champions League Super Cup.
Draisaitl is better than Neymar. Especially in important games.
Loving your hockey reactions and especially the Hockey Psychology vids - he does such a great breakdown and I love the dry humour! Look forward to watching more as you watch the Cup Finals - remember you can react to each game's highlights as Sportsnet has a pretty good Game Recap - would love to see that on your channel!
We haven't witnessed history. The Oilers have to win it for that to happen. As Bobby Clarke said of his OT goal in game 5 of the 1974 Stanley Cup Finals vs. the Boston Bruins, "It's the biggest goal of my career, but if we didn't win the Cup in Game 6, then it's just another goal."
I'm guessing you guys haven't seen any film of Mario Lemieux. You should watch his highlights.
The reason the Oilers only got 10 shots was strategy. They basically scored 2 goals in the first 4 shots, so from that point on they focused on defense and didn’t work as hard to try scoring more.
still heartbroken over Dallas Stars. 💔 I struggled watching this video, but I did so out of loyalty to the channel
Don't worry the Cory perry curse going to hit em Canada going to be waiting longer for a cup sadly so panthers getting thare 1st
@@jamarkus942what's the perry curse?
@@hughjanus9557 last few teams Cory perry joined he made it to the finals and lost with each team
Traditionally, the team with the most Canadians in the finals wins the cup. Florida has 13 Canadians and Edmonton has 24.
The old geezer appreciates hockey to its fullest
Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux are the 2 most dominant hockey players of all time for offence and Bobby Orr for defence (offencive defenceman). Gretzky are not the most spectacular player but is hockey IQ are just unrivalised. He often ranked first for the greatest athleete of all time all sport because no other athlete dominate is own sport like Gretzky make. Gretzkyarethealltime leader for goals, pass and points and imagine if he never make a goal in all is carrer it finish first in points only with the pass he make. just incredible stats.
Twas the night before playoffs, and all through the rink, Not a player was stirring, not even to drink. The jerseys were hung in the lockers with care, In hopes that Lord Stanley soon would be there.
The fans were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of goals danced in their heads. With McDavid in his jersey and Leon in his cap, They dreamt of the Cup, their victory lap.
When out on the ice there arose such a clatter, I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter. Away to the arena, I flew like a flash, Tore open the doors and threw on my sash.
The Oilers were ready, all geared up in blue, With McDavid and Draisaitl leading the crew. Their eyes-how they twinkled! Their faces so bright, They skated with passion, prepared for the fight.
“Now Nurse, now Hyman, now Nugent-Hopkins too, On Foegele, on Bouchard, we believe in you!” To the top of the standings, they aimed with delight, “Happy Playoffs to all, and to all a good night!
You could do video on which of the two cup final teams have the best fans
The Oilers lost to the eventual Cup champs in the last 2 years playoffs. They have earned the right to be here as much as any team.
Dallas, the team they just beat, won both series' against those two teams prior to playing Edmonton too.
Another reason to cheer for the Oilers - Canada has gone a full 31 years without a Stanley Cup winner, despite them being home to 7 teams (Canucks, Oilers, Flames, Jets, Maple Leafs, Senators, Canadiens) and being the literal birthplace of hockey.
I mean but every other team is in America so the odds aren't great every year. And it's club teams not national teams if Canadians were only allowed to play on canadian teams then a team would probably win every other year lol.
I believe I saw a stat that of the final four teams Edmonton and Florida had the most Canadians on their rosters. I think the Panthers will be very tough to beat, but I'm hoping for Edmonton to bring the Cup back to Canada.
I don't think Canuck or Flames fan are cheering for their rival, lets go Panthers!
I think hockey was played in Holland in the 18th century
Cup is coming home this year.
Love sunny Florida!
The Brits would be like "Connor McDavid might be good but he's no Tony Hand"
Thats because oil was against Vegas the year before, and well... they ended up winning the cup that year... It's all about the Oil...
McDavid is the best offensive player with Mackinnon, Kucherov nearby. Interesting though is that for the 5th year in a row the NHL players (no less) voted Sidney Crosby as the most complete player, all aspects of the game, and Crosby was 36 last year. Crosby is a freak.
Yes, there should not be any doubt that McDavid is the best player in the world. Arguably the most talented ever but Gretzky will forever be the greatest.
Mcdavid is the current best . No debate but I think Lemieux was better than Gretzky skill wise , Wayne’s numbers are just stupid though so i never argue about it 😂. Lemieux Gretzky Orr , top three. Order doesn’t matter
@@pattaccone5347 can't argue with that
@@pattaccone5347 Mario Lemieux missed so many games with injuries and cancer. But when he played he was amazing.
@@Straydogger exactly. Imagine his numbers if he was actually healthy the whole time , would be insane 😂
Isn't mcdavid scottish or Irish 😂
McDaniel is the equivalent of Messi
mcdavid is the best in the world after gretzky ~ for this play here ~ the dallas defenceman Heiskanen is a left handed shooter & mcdavid knew that so pulled off this move with that knowledge ~
Vamos Gatos!!
mcdavid is the most skilled and has the most potential of all time. he’s got so far to pass even crosby in greatness though.
Um, Mario Lemieux is the most skilled player ever (ask Gretzky), and he was almost 6'5", to boot. You must be a younger guy. I've seen them all and Mario is tops--too bad he was injured and had cancer during his career.
@@gregcable3250 You can't compare different eras; Lemieux was best of his era.
@@gunman462 Well, what "era" do you think he played in? At 35 years old after retiring in 1998 he came back at the end of December 2000 for the rest of that season after 44 months of not playing and in 43 games he scored 76 points (35 goals):
• Lemieux led the NHL in goals-per-game (0.81) while Pavel Bure, the league’s leading goal-scorer that season (59), was second (0.72).
• Lemieux led the NHL in assists-per-game (0.95) while Adam Oates and his own teammate Jaromir Jagr tied for second (0.85).
• Lemieux led the NHL in points-per-game (1.77) while Jagr finished second (1.49).
He only played 43 games and was one of the 3 Hart finalists! This wasn't the 1970s. Nothing like him before or since. Eras? He played in this "era". Again, ask Gretzky, Messier, all of the guys who played against and saw him and the guys now. Mario, period.
@@gregcable3250 24 years ago isn't this era by a very long shot. The players get better and better constantly in such a way that teams from 20 years would never be able to compete. I don't deny that Lemieux is perhaps the greatest within an era but you can't compare older players to newer ones.
@@gregcable3250 that’s totally fair. yeah the 08 winter classic was the first game i ever watched
I would never go so far as to say that #97 is like Messi ... he's not THAT good, but one might make the argument he is kind of like a hockey version of Ronaldo let's say … perhaps.
Cheers 🍺
You can't even compare the two lol
McJesus
Umm Ovechkin is still playing and going to break Gretzky’s scoring record next year. Hold tight on the McDavid talk for a couple years til Ovi retires.
Ovechkin is nowhere near being the best player in the league. Hold tight, this ain't 2015 anymore. All time he's up there, but there is no discussion about Connor McDavid being the best player in the league currently
mcdavids left leg could outplay ovi, and im a huge ovi fan
After this year I think it's hit and miss Ovi getting the record
Ovi is a goal scorer--great goal scorer, but a goal scorer. He is not the complete player that Crosby has been--all aspects. McDavid has a chance to do that.
How old is Ovi? How old is McDavid? Plenty of time to surpass.
This will be the first time since 1993 ( Montreal Canadiens ) that a Canadian team will go to the playoffs
This is false.
Final*
That is also false.
Vancouver Canucks (1994), Calgary Flames (2004), Oilers (2006), Ottawa Senators (2007), Canucks (2011) and Montreal Canadiens (2021)
I put $20 on the Oilers to win the cup
