V7E10: The Allure of Nova Scotia

  • This week, I travel throughout western Nova Scotia, to enjoy coastal communities, local fare, and to wander in search of primitive roads. Time in the kayak is inevitable, as I happen upon numerous secluded lakes. I also enjoy some hiking and camping at Kejimkujik, and finally fix the troublesome sway-bar on the Jeep.

    Hi Chris you are an inspiration. I watch and look forward to every weeks video, you are living a true freedom lifestyle. I'm retired and setting up my 015, 2 Door Jeep Wrangler for overland adventure. I just got back from 3 weeks in overland adventure north of Lake Superior in Ontario Canada,Ive been doing this every summer for the past 3 summers, and every trip I learn what I need to make these trips more comfortable and convenient.I'm now installing stronger overland suspension springs to hold weight, and I'm installing a roof rack and roof top tent. I no longer want to set up ground tents and live off of ice coolers,so a 12 volt fridge-freezer and solar battery with solar panel are in my future as well.I loved your BC footage and I am really liking the east coast Nova Scotia adventures as well. I'm planning on moving to Northern BC or possibly the east coast. I really like the mountains of BC, I also really like the east coast rugged geography as well. Which coast has the more off road trails and opportunity for wilderness camping BC or east coast Provences ???
    Anyway I love your videos and they are a huge inspiration to myself and my girlfriend who equally loves overland adventure and wilderness camping.
    Do you ever hear from Jen, keep in contact, I wonder what she is up to and how she and her dog are doing??

    I have lived in Nova Scotia long enough to complete my Pharmaceutical Science PhD degree and JUST finished so have a lot of free time on my hands until I start my career in the fall.. I was originally in BC where there are countless miles of trails for overlanding.. I have not been able to explore Nova Scotia yet, but last year my brother gave me his 2018 Toyota 4Runner Off Road (because he went back to Japan where we are from) and yesterday I accepted delivery of my new Land Rover Defender X, so i'm ready for some overlanding!.. I just need to learn where the good trails are

    If you get up to Cape Breton Island and the Cabot Trail make sure that you drive way north to Meat Cove. You need to spend more time along the coast visiting the little fishing villages. You have been seeing areas that look just like inland Maine or New Brunswick or northern Ontario or the UP of Michigan. Hit the coastline! Fun watching you.

    I've been following you from the beginning. For someone like me you are a (Can't find the word) for a person I look up to. I own a 95 Explorer the 2 door version. With the back seat down there is enough space for me to stretch my 6 foot 264 pound frame all the way out without having to curl up even a minuet amount. Unfortunately for me despite the fact that the floor is carpeted trying to sleep on it is the equivalent of trying to sleep on a slab of solid granite. At the age of 58 my back don't tolerate hard surfaces.I know you spend every night in your pop top tent I am wondering if it has any cushioning or if you added after market cushioning?

    Chris,
    I know it's too late now to offer a better/less expensive sway bar "fix", but my local 4WD shop (RockYour4X4) replaced my front disconnect (I had the same issues as you did) and replaced it with an all mechanical sway bar system. The only "down-side" is you have to remember to reach under the front bumper and twist a knurled dial to disconnect/reconnect the sway bar's action. The replacement was called "No Limits Sway Bar Disconnect" from EVO mfg. for around "$100. Happy trails!

    • @paulross7744
      @paulross7744 5 років тому

      The EVO No Limits replaces the electric actuator so you can DISCONNECT the swaybar but is still dependent on the OEM return-spring to return to the CONNECTED position. If you have a failed actuator the EVO gets you fixed. But if you have the problem Chris had (and that I have) the actuator is not the problem, it still works, and I can still disconnect, but it struggles to reconnect. The problem is all the gunk in the "gear box" from water intrusion creates more friction than the OEM spring can overcome. If EVO offered a replacement return-spring with more force it would be better but I'm afraid that if you are submerging the swaybar, you will eventually have too much gunk and rust and it will become seized. I have removed mine to clean it and re-grease it two times now.

    Just found your channel. Great video of Nova Scotia. I was born here, adopted and taken to the US. I moved back forever in 2008. I can tell you why you were the only one at the beach location and why you got a spot at Keji. The ferry that runs from Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, (where I am) to Maine, is not running this summer. That's due to a change of ports on the Maine side from Portland back to Bar Harbor. Updates to the Bar Harbor terminal need to be done before the ferry can sail from here to there. So the number of tourists is very low this year. So you came at a good time to find super spots to camp. Normally you need reservations for Keji way ahead of time. Will check your channel for your visit to Newfoundland. Look out for those humungous moose there lol.
