GRA Episode 8: Western Adventure 2024 Part 5 Sweet Home...Wyoming

Welcome to the end of our 4 week journey from Virginia to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, down to Wyoming, and back! In this final episode, ride along as we revisit an old site...minus our bovine neighbors...and find what can only be a tie for most epic site ever!
Driving past the Tetons, we revisit an incredible hike Havoc and I did up to Table Mountain last year. The footage is still breathtaking even though I was there and saw it with my own two eyes.
Finally we end up outside of Lander, WY. Two things, ultimately, determined our routing for this trip. The trailer...and this small, central Wyoming town. After falling in love with it during a brief stay last year, we vowed to come back and better experience town life. Meeting people, spending time in stores, and generally trying to live like locals. Well...as much as one can in only a few days. We also met with a realtor. With zero intentions to buy anything, we wanted to form a relationship with one, and learn more about the various areas to get a better idea of where we may want to settle when the time came and we'd explored a couple other places...namely Utah. Well...as barn finds go, we scored an incredible one when she showed us a plot of unlisted land that we just could not refuse.
By the time this was all published, we've closed on it, and are now land owners in this magnificent state. More importantly...in Lander. We can't wait to permanently call it home in a couple years.
We end the trip with one final, mind-blowing night outside of Badlands National Park down in the basin. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect send off with an incredible sunset and crystal clear skies overnight.
This is the fifth, and final, part of our trip up to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada to pick up our new Arkto G12 trailer, ultimately returning back through Montana into Wyoming where we hope to complete a huge milestone in our goal to head to the West! Join us as we experience trials and joys, visit old haunts and add sites to our best-of list, get up close and very personal with some grizzlies, and experience loss while the beauty around us provides levity.

I got a rookie question what are you using for maps

Primarily GAIA to build routes, mark waypoints and have up on my head unit for navigation. I'll use OnX Off Road as well to look for actual routes and trail conditions. Google Maps and Google Earth satellite imagery is fantastic for finding open areas and spotting campsites. GAIA satellite imagery is a joke.
Finally, I use a Garmin Overlander as back-up navigation. It's come in handy when having to reroute where there's no signal and I failed to download offline maps. It's also nice as I can search the iOverlander catalog offline.
