Shit looks crazy, a fast paced Tarkov style game with colorful visuals, I like the art style looks amazing and not too convoluted, also based on how they really marketing this, the dev team seems like they have the right mindset, they’re sitting down and looking at every detail and perfecting this game, nothing rushed or tone-deaf, I just want something to give the magic of overwatch characters on top of amazing gameplay and I’m kinda sold.
It’s so crazy this is the first new Bungie IP in like 10 years (technically an old IP, but you know what I mean)! If others won’t talk about it, I will! This is very exciting!
I'm not surprised the community figured it out this quickly. The Bungie community has had their fair share of cryptic puzzles to solve in Bungie games since as far back as the original Marathon. Destiny had some crazy stuff, look up Outbreak Prime or the Warmind puzzle that lead to a real-world location where stuff was hidden to be found.
I am really excited for Marathon. Being a Destiny player that participates in World's First Races for the new raids every release, I am really excited to see what they do with the events they teased about
I'm seeing so many veteran developers in that ViDoc. Chris Barrett has been with Bungie for forever now, I'm pretty sure he was there when the first Halo came out. I'm guessing this is what the A-team at Bungie has been working on, which might explain why Crucible and Gambit have been pretty anemic in D2 for the past few years...
This is going to be the first dedicated AAA extraction shooter game. Bungie's track record says this will succeed, and I really hope it's true. As much as people shit on Destiny, no studio has been able to compete. Bungie just has a touch that no other dev does.
they have what’s called a passionate work ethic towards their craft, they really care about what game they’re making instead of pumping out the same shit every year.
I think this game is really gonna be the next big thing for a lot of people. Seems like it's got a little something for everyone in a really exciting way!
From what I gathered from the vidoc and the S'pht Compiler in the trailer, it seems we'll still be blowing away the S'pht and maybe the Pfhor too, just with other players thrown in that can help or impede on your progress, which sounds pretty fun. And from the ARG, I can assume that we'll be doing shit for multiple factions, mainly MIDA and the UESC, maybe with Cyberacme Systems and Traxus thrown in trying to profit on the conflict or something, IDK. Also, while I'm a much bigger fan of the OG trilogy's "grungy, yet otherworldly" style, the more "sleek cyberpunk mixed with Chris Foss-esque old-school sci-fi" aesthetic is really cool looking too. While I'm slightly disappointed that we're not getting a new single-player Marathon game, I still hope this game will be end up being a good time. Hell, maybe we'll get SP content later down the line if it ends up being successful.
My thoughts exactly. I learned about Marathon fully and the basic lore around about almost 8 or 9 years ago. Never got to play the original trilogy, but I dug into the lore. It was around the time I rediscovering a bunch of other "Boomer Shooters"
Would honestly be super cool if the death animation was actually in slow mo, like imagine them slowly flipping from a shotgun and before they land on the ground you have looted the corpse😂
Hey JC, watching in the post-stream. It's been so so incredible seeing the community engaged with this game already and seeing your reactions to both live streams. Thanks so much for recording that. Bungie people are absolutely here and listening, and it's your passion for games that gives us passion for making them. Looking forward to when the team shares more. Cheers.
❤️ aw, dude! This means the world to hear! I’m so happy for the whole team! Y’all really knocked it out of the park. I’ve always been such a fan of how you all not only develop games, but really include your community in so many unique ways. I’ll be eagerly awaiting it! Hoping development goes super well! The last couple of years I worked on the dev side of the industry for the first time & man it was an eye opening experience! I can only imagine how much work has been going into this. 🙌
JC out here accurately portraying my reaction. Very hyped to see what Bungie does with this! They have a great history with FPS, and personally im a big fan of extraction shooter genre and think this game could be another industry defining game. Hoping Bungie lands this!
I am so curious about this game, I've looked more into the stuff they released today and it's crazy how much lore and effort they are putting into this. I even think there's a pdf with a bunch of stuff someone found. I'm hyped.
@@JCbackfire I could theorize and speculate about this game for hours. I'm also getting into the video game industry and I love how they did the marketing (especially the arg's, it's another version of community driven content and Easter Eggs for zombies that brings hype) aswell and the words they are choosing just to tease us, getting us to speculate so much. Like what's an artifact? Aliens? Will there be PvE? Perfectly Marketed. Love arg's aswell I mentioned on stream that I make some for friends and I'm 100% going to try to do the same for the whatever games I make. Sorry for the paragraph lol
Im seeing a lot of people diss this game so far but i honestly think this game will be successful and get a lot of people into the extraction shooter genre. I honestly think such a major studio trying to break into such a new genre should be celebrated and welcomed not what people are saying online. Anyway i have faith in the developers
I hope there's some PVE elements to the game. I wanna see Marathon Hunters again, having them wander the map randomly like a boss and drop good loot but be hard to fight would allow for such fun moments of needing to chose between going after the boss solo, together, or killing the other player then going for the boss.
There will be PVE elements, 100% -- I'm interested to see how it manifests, as well. From how it sounds, a Hunter would be perfect for this genre. I need to play the original game for proper context though.
There is. Vidoc was alluding to it by mentioning a hypothetical where a player encounters a S'pht Compiler, complete with concept art of a runner shooting at it. The Q&A just straight-up says that there will be AI-controlled enemies.
You see what made this dope? A dev team honest about going dark, no updates or being the person to dissapoint, They literally go dark, in a bunker, play testing, off the grid and literally making sure the players are satisfied and working with everything in their means to keep fans or players and new players engaged, now that's how you break down a gameplay mindset and field of operation
I've wanting a studio to do a ARG in game for the longest but the fact that it's going to Bungie has me sold. I can't wait till we get more news on this and then when it finally releases!
I am STOKED because I am a fan of the old Marathon trilogy made by Bungie back in the 90s, which was an amazing FPS for its time, and was the first to add duel wielding guns, and the ability to really look around in any direction. Before Halo, there was Marathon.....
I agree but this is the first time a big budget studio is working on an extraction shooter. That doesn't automatically mean it will do well but it means they will be able to develop more than the indie game studio.
I think Bungie has great vision. They're capable of executing on that vision, but sometimes fall short. Despite being a drastic departure from gameplay Marathon is known for, I think that the game they want to make can easily fit into the IP in an interesting way. In the end, though, it'll all come down to execution. I believe that they can do it, but must also acknowledge how easy it would be for them to fall short.
Man was really hyped when I saw the Bungie logo when I realized it was Marathon. My mood plummeted though when I heard it's just an extraction shooter... That really stung man...
There's really yet to be a massively accessible extraction shooter yet tho? IDK why there's a stigma with the idea, when the genre is still incredibly early.
@@JCbackfire I mean Tarkov came out in 2016 and Hunt Showdown isn't that much newer. And COD has had DMZ, I don't think there's anything more accessible than COD. In general it is a genre heavily carried on its similarities to battle royale. If you didn't like BR you're less likely to enjoy extraction shooters. Plus there are many on the way. Even Ubisoft already announced one.
I think the big thing here is iteration. Just because there's some other attempts, doesn't mean Bungie's attempt is automatically not going to be successful. It's still super early and DMZ is COD's first attempt at that genre. I think there's a lot of opportunity to innovate on it.
@@JCbackfire As a fan of the older Marathon games, I think it's less a matter of whether it will be successful as about whether it will be faithful. The original trilogy were a very story-oriented series that bear a lot of similarity to the successor Halo but focused a lot more on like, hard science fiction and explored some interesting themes. Personally, I'm staying cautiously optimistic, but at least on the face of it, an extraction shooter format seems kinda incompatible with the series' heavy story focus. But they've managed to give Destiny a pretty involved narrative despite its genre, so I'm hoping Bungie can pull that off again here.
@@JCbackfire I mean my main take is I just wish it was a real Marathon revival, successor, or reimagining. I mean Destiny worked out for them, but man if Doom could come back so hard, I'm sure Marathon could too.
Most likely it wouldn't make sense for a multiplayer pvp focused game not be free . And they also hinted many times it could be free since it had no real story mode and if it's free a lot more people will be able to play and try out the game which is what I think bungie wants .
@@JCbackfire they mention in the ViDoc that you could run into compilers, so yes there is gonna be AI almost certainly. especially with the lack of a connection to the original marathon's artstyle, this would be one of the only ways (besides the overall story) to connect it back to the original.
@@JCbackfire Because its Bungie, bigger budget, always fluid pvp, and they are one of the best developers in the world? Not to mention its been in development since 2018! Its my assumption, but we can expect something triple A at least.
