    Hi and thanks for this. Really enjoying your reaction videos, and am really pleased to see you taking time to react to some female performers such the legendary Joni Mitchell. Now, since you are a drummer and enjoy some classic rock and creative rock I think you would get a kick out of reacting to 'Rocket's Tail' from the 1989 Kate Bush album 'The Sensual World.' That son has the added bonus of having Dave Gilmour from Pink Floyd giving some searing guitar work and also includes some superb drum from Stuart Elliott who was the original drummer with 'Cockney Rebel' and also worked with Paul McCartney and Roger Daltrey, and The Alan Parsons Project.
    Thanks again - Joni is outstanding.

    This is about Leonard Cohen. His songs 'Winter Lady' and 'Avalanche' are about Joni Mitchell. Have you listened to Cohen yet? It's worth a try.

    • @DrStrangelove3891
      @DrStrangelove3891 3 місяці тому +1

      Their relationship was kind of a love/hate thing. She was a bit annoyed about the line 'Do not dress in these rags for me, I know you are not poor' in Avalanche, and Cohen didn't like that she used his line (love is touching souls) before he could use it himself in a song. She then accused Cohen that he had stolen the line 'Our steps will always rhyme' from That's No Way To Say Goodbye from a book by Camus. Joni feels a bit frustrated that Cohen and Dylan are ranked more highly as songwriters. And rightly so, she is right up there with them.

    This album is the one with her own self portrait painting. A true artist in every way. She always tells a story. Poetry. Life lived well. Today’s music isn’t really music. There’s no instrument. No lyric. No soul. Don’t overthink life. Give it all you can and take only what you need. Your mind is a powerful tool…your instrument.

    She does as you say “put herself out there” even though she's afraid. Like all true artists, her bravery and her artistry inspire the listener to also be brave enough to be True to themselves. Like she says, ” Love is touching souls,” and listening to Joni is experiencing that love because she reaches out from her soul to our souls. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, and for showing so much respect to one of the great Artists of our time.

    If you think her voice is good here, this was after years of smoking and her range and clarity had taken a hit. Still, Joni at any age is unique (she's now 80 and just made a return to live performances!) BTW, she suffered from polio as a child and never really recovered full strength in her left hand, which is why she came up with unusual tunings for guitar and dulcimer.

    I don't share your view that she is saying that she is saying "You ain't nothin' " to the person . She could drink a case because they have such a close relationship that he is "in her blood like holy wine", and that their souls had touched, and that the closeness would cancel out any negativity that might result from their differences. She would always have an underlying love for the person, whatever the circumstances.

      @@L33Reacts Some say it might be about Graham Nash (of CSN), who wrote "Our House" about the time they lived together, but the bit about Canada could suggest Leonard Cohen or Robbie Robertson (of The Band). I think you will eventually probably do a reaction to the CSNY hit "Woodstock", which was written by Joni. Joni's manager didn't want Joni to perform at Woodstock because she had an important Dick Cavett Show appearance the next day, and traffic was already gridlocked near the festival. She ended up writing the song in a N.Y.C. hotel room, watching news reports of the festival. She was going out with Graham Nash at the time, and Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young later did a rock arrangement of the song, which became a hit. There are excerpts of that Cavett show on UA-cam with Joni and some people that actually made it back from Woodstock, like Crosby, Stills, and the Jefferson Airplane.

    This is what a dozen or so years of smoking does to your voice.
    You should check this earlier version Lee (privately, I'm not suggesting that you react to it). It also has some background information about Joni.

      Her voice aged beautifully over the years. Made her even more human.

    Joni gave up her baby for adoption because she didn't feel (at that time) she could be both a mother and an artist She's now reunited with her grown up daughter

      @@L33Reacts Giving up her daughter was not entirely voluntary according to various interviews. She was very young and kind of talked into it. She wrote a song about her daughter before they met again as adults . It's called Little Green (also on the Blue album). Need I say it's utterly beautiful and deeply moving?

      After her husband she wrote timing again that she did not have the money to feed her. She did go to welfare for help, but at the time that was before birth control and social services were flooded with children
