"The Banner of the unit is a symbol of valor and glory which is a reminder to every soldier, officer, or general about their holy duty to serve faithfully to the Soviet Motherland. Protect courageously every inch of her land, not sparing your blood and life itself."

I have seen the Russian soldiers leave in 1993, leaving behind all kind of beautiful stuff, but no value for them back then. Wow the closed gates of Colditz brings back some memories. Around 2008, my cousin, uncle and I went to a games convention in Leipzig. We took a day off to visit Colditz only to find it closed. At the time, the gap under the gates was big enough to pass through and my uncle forced us under and promptly followed.
We had the entire castle to ourselves for several hours. They were renovating at the time and most doors were "locked" via a removed door handle. We managed to find a handle laying around, granting us access to every inch of the castle. We climbed in the rafters where the glider was built and through the tunnels under the chapel.
To cap it all off, by the time we got out, some sort of youth hostel kitchen had opened providing us with a cheap and well earned breakfast!

I’ve been binging baldies videos for a few days now and really loved the interactions with all the people, but not speaking any Russian, I only had the subtitles to go off of. And now he comes into Germany, acts the same way he always does because man‘s true to himself, but I suddenly understand everything. Super odd feeling, but also incredibly interesting.

Same here. I understand the German but none of the Russian. I also found it hilarious that he got to Alexanderplatz which is one of the most Soviet style places in Berlin and he doesn't bat an eyelid. I remember visiting East Berlin in summer 1989 on one of my dad's crazy ideas for a fun day out. Ali-platz was empty and barren. Then I went in '91 and it was full of 3-cup-and-ball shysters but still not much else. Contrast with today and it's (almost) unrecognisable but the DDR era buildings are still there (and of course the Fernsehtürm!)
