Trust me if you run on dirt roads as in the oilfield and your head is that close to the top of the cab when you hit a rough spot the button on the top of your ball cap is going to hurt Been there done that

The oldest vehicle i have driven is an 1936 British "Guy" Bus. Great Videos, Love american Trucks and suprising how modern Trucking was in the mid 1950s in the USA compared to the UK.
Great fun to watch and reminisce,but no one would want to return to the technology of that time to drive for 9,10 or 11 hours per day.They had no A/C,weak heaters if any at all,no air ride suspension,no air ride seat.These vehicles would wear their drivers out pretty quickly. They are a lot of fun to see in operation,however,just to see what driving them was like back then.Those old engines have a great exhaust sound,though!
I would absolutely love to see cold starts of the trucks you feature - especially this one - with this view. It would be amazing to watch the drivers start up their rigs bone cold with this view so we could see what they do to get them started on cold days
Does this 6-71 have a 2 valve or 4 valve head on it? When did Detroit introduce the 4-valve head(s) in the in-line and v-engines? Sounds great and thanks for posting. Wish you showed the exterior of the truck though.

That is one sound I DO NOT miss! It's one of the main reasons I now wear hearing aids. lol Cut my teeth on a screaming 671 'Jimmy' with a pair of mixing sticks. Hauling 90,000 lbs gross Winter weights. Took you 10 miles to get her up to 55 MPH only to have some dumb farmer pull out in front of you. No, don't miss it.

I got me one a them 6/71's in a 1960 GMC 860. Single axle tractor, 5&2. Truck looks like a mix btwn. early fifties C ball and a late fifties pick up. Crazy combo. Gonna stretch her and go 18' flatbed. I am farmer and I will do it, yesser! Thank you.

I left DD Redford plant in 1988 and this engine brings back so many memories. A trip to engine test with so many screaming engines on their breakin run was the only thing better than this video!

Drove an 8v71 in a fire truck, was taught to float the gears. I only clutched on start and stop. Great memories in the rig !

My dad drove a 59 GMC conv. for Mobilgas aka SOCONY-VACUMM /Mobil back in the day same cab motor, just a snub nose what they called them back then.
