My 15 year old daughter was inspired by your videos, so she started building her own shelter this past autumn (the weather turned rainy and bitter cold, so she only got it halfway finished). But now her cousins are interested too...so she is excited for spring to arrive so they can all spend the night in it. Thanks for being an inspiration to young girls! I've always loved camping and being outdoors, but it helps to see other strong, independent women who enjoy it too!
That was awesome Lilly! Great to see an overnight vid at the camp. I really liked the DIY torch light in the plastic container. Also, the fact you didn't give up on the bow drill fire was testament to your determination and willingness to never give up! I could see you really enjoyed time at camp. Thanks for the video - Mike
TA Outdoors Well said Mike. I saw the kit roll and thought something similar would be great for carrying and organising fishing and filming gear on those long beach fishing trips. :-)
I liked the video. One of the things I liked is the feeling that it was one of those days when things don't go right, that was not edited out before posting. The problems with getting the fire going, the spoon, night fishing, lost fish trap are things that happen everyday. Lilly just kept on trooping. It was great.
I like ur honesty and the fact that u didnt cut corners or take a short cut in getting the fire going. U showed how hard it is to get an actual fire going. Good job and keep up the good work.
Lily thanks for your honesty in making the bow drill fire. People learn more from watching failed attempts and see how to just keep trying....your honesty is refreshing.
Amazing video, honored to have the BOR be part of the backdrop to showcase your amazing bow drill skills! You rock! Jealous of your camp and weather! Thanks a sharing this with your subs again!
@@SurvivalLilly I really really love your videos Lilly please don't stop UA-cam just ignore all of the assholes out there just keep making them awesome videos
Bow drill is my favorite way to start a fire. I love it when I see an adventurer using that method. Great job not giving up. It takes a lot of perseverance.
"...Oaken logs, if dry and old keep away the winter's cold But ash wet or ash dry a [queen] shall warm [her] slippers by." --The firewood poem by Celia Congreve
In my youth we camped in the snow to be adventurous in scouting ! That was in the 70's ..back in the day they say ! I was cold ! my scoutmaster asked what do i wear to bed in your sleeping bag ...well a few layers I said. He went on to say wear one layer and a warm cap. Solved the problem , snug as a bug ! Continue your awesome videos ! Love them ! Peter
This was one of your best videos from the perspective of a survivalist. Being able to create a fire when your life may depend on it is something that the arm-chair survivalists need to understand. All theory and no practice can kill you. And that is what made this video so valuable. Unscripted reality of just how difficult this basic survival skill can be.
Hi Lilly, I just have to tell you that my husband and I love watching your videos. You are my hero! We live in Maine, USA. You are such an inspiration! I'm older now, but when I was your age I was a lot like you. Thank you for sharing your amazing skills and knowledge with us
Lilly, i am so glad you stood your ground in making your channel this far. I'm happy you did not stop making survival vids and nothing distracted you , so continue to do what you do as long as you can. In my book you are the ultimate women in the woods.
As always another simply great video BUT the mention of going back to an older phone and ditching the smart phone...WOW applause applause. They are so so addicting. Awesome lady.
I started following you a few weeks ago...I have 10 acres of woods behind my house...I have the frame for my shelter built using tips from your videos (about 8 hours invested)....this stuff isn't easy...it's nice to have someone to refer to...thanks for your efforts....this is the most fun I've had in a while...my grandkids want to spend the night in the shelter...my wife thinks I'm nuts....love it
I do like the Bug Out Roll, however the fact that it weighs 1.7kg made me decide to just better organize my pack. It is not a great option for those of us who are more careful of pack weight. Canadian Prepper is a very strong man and his gear choices reflect that. This being said, its still a great product.
That's an amazing bugout roll to keep small gear accessible and organized. My husband doesn't think we need any of this stuff, so I'm getting by with ziploc bags to organize stuff in our BOBs. Talked him into keeping them in the cars in case of breakdowns and accidents.
Great job not giving up on the bow drill to make the fire. Outstanding. Hard core. Other people who like to criticize would have given up, ( you know who you are out there ). Awesome lantern too. You should patent that idea. Throw Survival Lilly all over that thing.
Awesome video Lilly:). Way to never give up on the fire start. So many people tell me they are prepared because they have supplies and are ready....but when I ask if they practice with their supplies they don’t have good answer. Your video shows so much how practicing is needed and if someone thinks they can just live this way when the SHTF then they can be mistaken. Thank you for your teaching:)
So when you were talking about the air tunnel and less smoke it reminded me of my own firepit. I plan on rebuilding it this spring (original one when I moved in is not all that good) and I found buried by my shed an old large ceramic 90. I think using that to make an air tunnel for the firepit will make it burn better and have less smoke as you just stated and I am excited to reuse old materials that I found around the home!
Hi Lilly, I just discovered your channel. I love it!! You are very good and an excellent survivalist. Your tenacity is admirable. Keep up the good work. Your shelters are amazing
Really loved this video style Lilly! Felt like we got to camp out with you for a night! It was lots of fun!! Love your videos - can't wait to see what you get up go next! 😊👍
By coincidence, I have been working on my spoon carving (at home) just as you released this video: we have to work with wood...but sometimes it doesn't want to work with us. I have had my share of 'split ends.' The 'burned bowl' technique is not so common so I was interested in your demonstration. No matter how many real or virtual campfires we have seen, it is always worthwhile to see another one.
My 1st suggestion, Lil, is that you might try Pruning Shears, they cut small branches a lot easier than the saw; also, 2nd, consider a poly foam pad to lay your bed on, it gives you an almost 0 conducive barrier between you and the ground. 3rd, your night light is brilliant, in more ways than one; you could use it for your night fishing and it could work better than a flaming torch.
Song you whistled to was for a childrens show we used to watch in South africa, was translated to afrikaans, name of the show was "Brakkenjan" loved it as a kid lol
There may be women as adventurous as you Lilly, but I've yet to see one. You have such a large variety of different areas of knowledge that it's always interesting to watch and learn from your videos. I just want to say Thanks, for women everywhere, for showing everyone that 'women Are capable', and we need to learn as much as we can, cause one doesn't know if/when we may be in a situation...alone, and have only ourselves to 'count on'! Many Blessings for New Year, from Elaina. Shalom. 😉
I really enjoy all your videos. I always learn something new and I'm an old guy, but I like learning new things. The only problem is that almost every time I watch your videos I go and buy your featured items, like knives, saws, hatchet, machete and now I just bought this portable shovel from your last video. Thank you for sharing so many great tips for survival.
I love how well you can live in a wild environment and live more of less off of nature if you have to. That camp is nice to survive in if you have to and the bed you made is still in perfect condition too.
Hi Lilly. Another excellent video, partly because it showed that sometimes things just don't work out. I must say, I love that lamp you made from the old LED lights. Excellent idea, putting it in the opaic (not-quite clear) plastic container. I love it. Anyway, I'm glad you got at least a half decent night's sleep. Great video.
Your torch on the water is great idea. The water proof Lantern that you made would be perfect to float on the water same concept as the torch but it wouldn't go out. I night fish with lights that way in Tennessee and it does draw fish, Bait fish come and big fish follow.. the waterproof Lantern you made is great and when I saw your torch on the water that's the first thing I thought of. I bet it would work perfect tie off to it and let it float, you can even cast it with another rod
I have been following your channel for about two years. I wish I was as skilled as you are in the woods. Keep up the great work. Thanks for everything.
from personal experience with shelters like this (although lower and deeper) it is a simple question of angle. Rain where I live don't fall horizontally but more or less vertical depending on the wind. Hence the "entering-angle". Again, my rain don't go vertical even in hard wind. When having a high but not very deep shelter, the easy solution is to have a plastic sheet as front cover. I think Lilly has showed this solution.
Very proud of you. You had the ability to do the fire starting the easy way but didn't give up and was finally rewarded for it and so were we by seeing your success! :) Bravo young lady!
I have watched many vids of folks using a bow drill and you are the first to show the failures and persistence required to make a fire that way so well done and thanks a lot one other thing I would ask is do you have a video of you making your camp light in your workshop as I would really like to see that thanks.
This was a great video. I have watched your channel for a long time and always like your videos but after all of the preparations it is great to see what using the camp can look like. I also love that you share your successes and setbacks so it’s easier to keep going when we try and things don’t work the first time. Love the channel. Glad you talked about the importance of choosing the right food to eat. We are going to start raising sheep for meat. We already have 4 rams and looking for the ladies now!
umm... when I was young. I learn to add dry and shredded tiny little bark on the wood once you start to see smoke coming out from it. And keep grinding until more smoke come out. This time we will add bigger items and grind it for a little longer, then the fire will show. almost 100% chance will get a fire. let me try and see if your way will work better.
Loved this one Lilly!! Thank you so much! I hate my smart phone too by the way. I'm very tired of technology in general and would love to live in a camp like yours somewhere far away from civilization. Thanks again for the video!!
Hey Lilly I have a suggestion whenever you go back there to night fish try putting your waterproof light that you made at the bottom of the river keep depth in mind and current and maybe that light accompanied by some weighted baited trap box might attract both fish and crayfish if it works please upload video STAY AWESOME Lilly.
My goodness Lilly Everytime I think you've shown me all your tricks you take on a new project and I learn something completely new ! just love you and your channel. I've always been a seasoned camper but your going to make a survivalist out of me yet lol in amazment as always ! Thanks so much for all you share 🌹
to help you with the embers making fire use a bit of flexable tubing with a bit of copper tubeing ... blow into the flex tubeing put the copper tubing end next to the ember ... that keeps your face away from the smoke while you are starting the fire.
great video lily, glad that you kept on trying with the bow drill.. really paid off. Can I ask what lapel microphone you are using please? Thanks :) ATB - Andy
Nocturnal creatures... oh, yes! Where I live, the most common night crawlers are Armadillos (local nickname: Possum on the half-shell), and those things sound like a herd of Elephants as they forage amid the trees. Irritating little buggers.
Great try on the spoon, next time just make it a shallower spoon. still plenty to work with. :) You might have to look at wrapping your kindling stored in plastic. Being by the river, probably has lots of fog, so everything will get coated. We live near a lagoon, its half a block away, but we have huge amounts of frost from it. Great video!
Great video! I commend you for your determination. 😊 I used to complain about not having cell service where I live (and our internet can barely be considered "high speed"), but now I'm seeing the benefits of not being beholden to these devices. Good for you for going old school!
Great Video! I was impressed at how you kept going with the bow drill even though you had matches. Also, the night fishing was cool. More detail on your fishing rig would be nice, even though you didn't catch anything. like the longer videos! Keep up the good work!
really impressed that you fought for the fire instead of wimping out and taking the easy way !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I guess that's why I watch your channel, because I am always impressed with your skills and the fact that you always give a good view of HOW TO get things done !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love your work, way cool lantern you can use it to attract fish too. We use one when night fishing in the boat, tons of fish come swimming up to it. I think it might have to do with the depth of the water being in a lake rather than the creek.
That was riveting watching you with the bow drill-I could see the frustration, but you stuck with it and I breathed a sigh of relief with you when the tinder finally caught! Awesome vid, thank you.
I agree on the smart phone stress I got rid of mine a year ago my blood pressure is down and no more phone stress. Thanks for another video love the content

Hi Lilly. Another excellent video, partly because it showed that sometimes things just don't work out.

Anyway, I'm glad you got at least a half decent night's sleep. Great video.

It is great that you demonstrated cooking over coals since a lot of beginners would try cooking over flames. Coals provide much better heat control.
How do shelters like this stop rain hitting you from the front ?
Marks Shrimp Tanks I've wondered that myself
from personal experience with shelters like this (although lower and deeper) it is a simple question of angle. Rain where I live don't fall horizontally but more or less vertical depending on the wind. Hence the "entering-angle". Making the shelter lower and deeper allow for some windy rain coming from the front, but the angle make the rain reach the ground in front of you inside the shelter. It is a simple principle. Again, my rain don't go vertical even in hard wind.
When having a high but not very deep shelter, the easy solution is to have a plastic sheet as front cover. I think Lilly has showed this solution.
I admire your tenacity. Good on you for sticking with it.

I really enjoyed this longer video! Thank you!
Brilliant video, love your determination Lily :-)
Love the videos Lilly. I agree on the 'smart' phones. I dumped mine for a simple flip phone. Feel so much more relaxed.
I love your jungle. Very quiet. The river, the trees are silent. And your voice very clear. Must be using hidden microphone.
Love the longer video. I think you should do more of them (much more). Thank you for your videos.

Amazing video Lily. Loved the whistling and all. You're amazing!
Now that I have seen it, I want all my knives to have a bow drill socket.
Thx Lilly yea like the organizer Canadian prepper great stuff.
Fire build was cool. Jim
to help you with the embers making fire use a bit of flexable tubing with a bit of copper tubeing ... blow into the flex tubeing put the copper tubing end next to the ember ... that keeps your face away from the smoke while you are starting the fire.
great video lily, glad that you kept on trying with the bow drill.. really paid off. Can I ask what lapel microphone you are using please? Thanks :) ATB - Andy
Awesome persistence on the fire enjoy all the shelter video's.

Great video! I commend you for your determination. 😊
I used to complain about not having cell service where I live (and our internet can barely be considered "high speed"), but now I'm seeing the benefits of not being beholden to these devices.
I love that you kept going on the fire - Well done!
you are doing a wonderful job teaching the old ways... keep moving forward!!!! from a native American Bush Crafter...LOL
Glad to see back where I first found you and doing what I enjoy seeing you do best - putzin around doing this and that!
Great video, Lilly! Well done on the bow drill fire too. Best part was your comment on smartphones, I fully agree with you :)!
Where can we get the wood handled knife with the bow drill socket in the handle?
I think one lesson learned is always have a knife that includes a a fire starting rod if you’re out adventuring.
Hallo Lilly. Schöne Übernachtung im Lager. Das wärmende Lagerfeuer und das leckere Essen waren wieder einmal vom feinsten. War wieder mal gerne dabei.
Thank you so much for your videos I've started my own survival pack to go camping with.
I agree on the smart phone stress I got rid of mine a year ago my blood pressure is down and no more phone stress. Thanks for another video love the content
