I think the lean to shelter using the survival blanket was the best of the bunch. The blankets weight is almost nothing and more than one could be carried in your pack very easily. The only tools needed to create the shelter is a good a good knife and lots of cordage. Still no great weight will be added to the pack! Your method of pinning the crossbar to the two trees was brilliant! I will not be forgetting that method any time soon. Bravo young lady! You would do to ride the river with! P.O.
This is one of the most informative & entertaining videos that I have watched on UA-cam in ages. As I am a mountain biker, ya just never know when I could get stuck in the mountains overnight and theses are easy and useful shelters. Thanks for sharing, I subscribed ;
In my limited survival experience, you're generally better of moving during the cold night, to maintain your body heat. Not exert your precious energy to build tic-houses, get low quality sleep and move nowhere. Granted the absence of a strong breeze, you can easily maintain ample body heat down to freezing in nothing more than sneakers, shorts, and a shirt - as long as you keep moving.
Great video and great soundtrack. Concerning that ground warming technique, I've read that initially one can start a small fire also at the chimney opening to help start the draw of warm air.
You are just total amazement, Lilly. Thank you, thank you thank you!!!! (plus you posted this on my birthday) for these survivor ideas. We never know when you're going to need these skillsets!
Thanks, Ms. Lilly. You know, the first video of yours I ever saw was about a survival shelter (lean-to against two trees with a red space blanket). Thanks for posting this wonderful and informative video. And rest in peace, Dax.
Me and some of my friends are making these little huts and we can’t make them very warm. We spent way too much time putting sticks instead of small branches and leaves. It’s hard to find leaves and we can only get these little brushes that are on the ground but this helped a lot!
LOL, me too! But, that's why I'm watching these types of videos, so that if I get lost in the wild, I won't have to wish I was lost with an expert. Actually, people will wish they were lost with me. ;)
Ive spent many nights in a leaf bed ! Or pine or and cedar limb tips bed . I've chopped cedars almost down , leave them on the stump , then trim off most underside branches , then use them on top for wind breaks , snow shelter . Make it big enough for me and my hunting dogs . Just carried hunting lights a gun and my good double bit axe
Recommend digging down a little. Place a trench for runoff below a bedding of timber to flow away rain and keep a consistent temp. Half an hour of work to save nights.
Lily, please do a video about making a 4x4x7 ft double layered tarp lean to, with the vertical clear side being two layers of PEVA shower curtain, with dy debris between the layers of the sides/rear of the shelter. Include the 2x2x2 ft cold air "sinkjust inside of the door way, and the dirt that pins the tarps to the ground. This suepershelter raises temps 30F degrees with just your body heat. Use 4 stakes to hold a stack of logs, creating the "head board, base-board and a middle support for the raised wooden bed. Have 1-2" OD green saplings run lengthwise down the length of the bed. then you can have hot rocks buried in an inch of dirt under the bed, a foot thick layer of debris atop the bed, More debris between your layers of clothing and between your clothing and your poncho and your tarp, having no need of a fire or sleeping bag at temps down to 0F. This saves tons of calories and time that are normally wasted on firewood. You don't want a fire inside of your shelter, burning it down and giving you emphysema! This shelter has to be a sealed unit, with duct tape closing the edges of everything. This forms a layer of trapped air between the layers of tarp. That's what insualtes you from the cold and wind. You can build this in an hour and the total weight is less than 3 lbs. It will roll and fold into a bundle very little bigger than a couple of 1 gallon cans. and costs almost nothing. The interior tarp should be reflectorized, but it can have a space blanket just taped to the tarp. Cut a 1" hole every 6" in the space blanket, so that the mylar is kept firmly and consistently "flat' against the tarp, or it will snag on everything and be very easily torn. it is NOT enough to have just the space blanket and one tarp. or one sheet of contrstruction plastic as the sides/back of the lean-to. you have to have the transparency of the PEVA to have two layers of the clear side, so that radiant heat from the sun or a fire can penetrate both layers. Construction plastic is too opaque. Plastic for the "body" of the lean to causes more condensation-dripping than tarps do. I recommend a layer of debris per yourself if you're not wrapped in a tarp, etc, or you'lll wake up wet./cold/miserable.
Awesome job! You are smart, strong, and creative! 👏 I am old and enduring the pain of a brain tumor. Watching you create this survival shelter helps me endure the pain. This is the first day I found you on You Tube. Love the music❣️Thank you. Be Safe😷

I think snow and rain are higher up the list than wind. Plus you generally try to orientate the shelter into the prevailing wind so that the trees you are using act as a wind break. She did primarily talk about warmth.

That reminded me of a story, mine. A hot night in the Philippines, my Aussie mate talking over too many beers. That mate was an ex grunt and somehow the discussion veered toward survival and said something that I half heard. He looked at me serious as hell and repeated it drill sergeant like "If it smells like almond or peaches, don't eat it! I'm serious mate, that shit might save your life"... I've listened, I've never eaten something that smelled like almond or peaches, except the real stuff. Still alive :)

Lilly, could you please do a video about what one should carry with them when they go into the woods?
...A girl?... I'm joking... It depends what you're going in the woods for, but you didn't ask me, sorry...

The dome shaped survival hut looks very hard to build without another person with you. Good luck, stay happy and healthy!
That warm bed is out of the ordinary. I've watched a lot of bushcraft vids, never once I saw them built that warm bed. I'm amazed, girl.
The forest sounds so peaceful.
I was in lake Lecurn in Switzerland back in 2001 and the area was absolutely breathtaking. Sorta reminds me of that.
Another fine video young lady, I enjoy seeing how you have progressed each time you build a new shelter. You should be very proud
This is one of the most informative & entertaining videos that I have watched on UA-cam in ages. As I am a mountain biker, ya just never know when I could get stuck in the mountains overnight and theses are easy and useful shelters.
Thanks for sharing, I subscribed ;
There are a lot of memories of my childhood in this video including the music. Thank you and great job.
Finally someone who understands how comfy leaf piles can be
You're the coolest! And your video about Hashimoto disease really helped my cousin! Thank you for all of your hard work!
which video is that about the Hashimoto disease?
Hashimoto disease? I missed that one... Never heard of it...

You are the undisputed Queen of survival shelters Lilly! Thanks for the videos my Queen :)
I love number 5 and 6. I'm calling number 1 a "tick feeding party" :)
You make this stuff look a lot easier than it actually is. You're very skilled!
I don't understand why you have dislikes on this video lol
@@czjornymurzyn at the time she must've had dislikes.
Mis felicitaciones por esos refugios tan extraordinarios, eres una gran profesional en la Supervivencia. Un saludo desde España.
You are just total amazement, Lilly. Thank you, thank you thank you!!!! (plus you posted this on my birthday) for these survivor ideas. We never know when you're going to need these skillsets!
When making a fire wall its best to use green and fresh thick branches, it will reduce the chance of your fire wall burning down.
This is so satisfying to watch. Your so talented and thats why watching you build these shelters is so relaxing.
what do you do when the Wind blows??
I love it! Another lady into bushcraft and survival! Great job! Keep the videos coming Lilly! 😁
Thanks, Ms. Lilly. You know, the first video of yours I ever saw was about a survival shelter (lean-to against two trees with a red space blanket). Thanks for posting this wonderful and informative video. And rest in peace, Dax.
Learned these years ago as a kid, in my 60s now. Great vid!
As someone of the same age it would be second nature to us. We did this as kids .
Me and some of my friends are making these little huts and we can’t make them very warm. We spent way too much time putting sticks instead of small branches and leaves. It’s hard to find leaves and we can only get these little brushes that are on the ground but this helped a lot!
i really enjoyed this video keep it up awsome creativity
Very cool! Reminds me of things my best friend and I did as teenagers. You possess excellent survival/ bushcraft skills. Thoroughly enjoy your videos!
me with a friend at the time did undergound shelters as teenagers :)
If I ever get lost in the wild, I hope this lady is with me haha
LOL, me too!
But, that's why I'm watching these types of videos, so that if I get lost in the wild, I won't have to wish I was lost with an expert. Actually, people will wish they were lost with me. ;)
+Mark Miller If she's with you, you won't be lost. *lol*
I'd LIKE to get 'lost' in the woods with her! She's a cutie! 😉
I’m writing this while in my survival shelter in the woods
+8Fire I'm writing this from my shelter I call my house. *lol*
I think I've made one of each of these at various times in my life.
I love watching these videos.
Thank you for reminding me of good memories 😂❤
Thanks Bec one day I leave the system , and I got everything you made in my mind for knowledge , good job a lot of people need to know this
I'm watching, thinking "Man, what a workout for your arms", then 14:50 says "These arm the arms you get with this workout"
Enjoyed the video, It was good seeing Dax again, bless his soul.
This was extremely satisfying to watch. Gonna try and build something with my kids like these. Thanks UA-cam

Very good summary of the most essential kinds of shelters. Very vivid. A lot of work. A lot of effort. A lot of skill. Great respect to you and when it occures the next time that I have to be tought to build a shelter, than for sure it will be you who I would pick to be my teacher! :-) Thank you gor this video.
No question about it, she does a great tremendous job! Lilly is definitely an outdoorswoman!
Back in 5th grade we were allowed to build teepees in the woods behind the playground. This takes me back
Ahhh this brings me back to 2 million years ago
Thank you, now I can have a nice shelter for reading poetry in the woods by myself ❤🍄🐸🐌🍃🍀🌺🌻🌳🌼
Good content! The last was my favorite. I imagine the smell of the earth from the moss all around you would be amazing. 👍
Yeah. That last one was neat
Hey Lily I just wanted to say thank you for making this video and other videos that you make because people should be learning these things to have the knowledge so I'm happy that people like you make videos like this
These shelters are even helping my homework!
Thanks Lilly!
Very nice ,reminder of my running away from home when i was 14 .

Hey, I just found your channel! I like your techniques, and specially that heated floor! I haven't seen anyone else do that, very cool
This made wonder if I could just walk around long enough and find a shelter that was built by someone else and later on left intact.
I've seen a lot of shelters in the Swedish forests next to the highway. I think it's scouts, or something, practicing.
Yes I have in Yorkshire woods
I could watch these survival videos all day long -- on my big, comfy couch . . . with a bag of chips, and a Pepsi.
Ms lily gives good strong advice. Have many accounts following her. Love and hugs Lily.
I totally wish we had moss like that where I live.
the first one seems super cozy and simple but you are literally a sleeping on spiders, kinda.
spiders are good hunters to keep the bugs away. Always keep a couple to debug the house. When you see a small pile of leftovers on the floor, you know she's working ))). Vac the mess but leave the web and Ms. Charlotte.
So are we just gonna ignore the fact that the leaves on the first shelter would blow away with a big wind...
should try to use moss or pine branches, or top leaves with more branches and/or mud to hold in place
It is just a temp. Shelter...if needed she would reinforce w/sturdy wood, mud etc.
No fires is correct on first one.
I think snow and rain are higher up the list than wind. Plus you generally try to orientate the shelter into the prevailing wind so that the trees you are using act as a wind break. She did primarily talk about warmth.
Not to mention the amount of wood chopped for just one video, I bet the companies that are chopping the Amazon forest would giv her a job.
Wow wow wow! My wife and I love nature and the wild. She's a country gurl and I'm a nature boy. We learn and practice and go on adventures every year. Saw you on our fav show Naked and Afriad. You're one of our favorites. Thanx for these awesome videos and good luck on everything you do.

Thank You, This was very informative.
Well done. It seems there are endless types of shelters that can be soundly built based on the main principles.
