All these people complaining about all the gambling halls in Deadwood no nothing of the history of this part of the old "wild west". Deadwood was built on gambling, saloons, and cat houses. Why on earth would anybody go there thinking it was a wild west Disneyland is beyond me. I really had a great time there, and enjoyed every minute of it. Nice video thanks!

I was there in 1997, and I liked it! I worked in Chicago, the big city, but S. Dakota was FANTASTIC!

Thanks for watching. I use four different cameras. My main camera is a Sony HDR-AX2000, I have a Contour +2 mounted on the dash board, I use a Sony HDR-SR12 when a small camera is needed, and I also shoot video with my SLR which is a Sony NEX-6. They all record in full HD.

When I was stationed at Ellsworth AFB for a few years (mid-late 1970s) I often visited Deadwood. The Town Hall on the north side of Main Street, on the southwest side of downtown Deadwood. There was a cat house (spotted by it's purple door) was also on the same side of Main St. on the northeast side of town. Are they still there?

Pretty much as I remember it on my visit.
I expected much more activity, more casinos and more people.
Alas, it was pretty much a ghost town, the local 'sheriff' was a young kid of maybe 20, accompanied by his 'deputies' just to add to the atmosphere.
The casinos were sparsely occupied by fairly aged people, who seemed destined to remain there until their departure day, although I managed to briefly engage in conversation with one or two of them.
Free food was available in all the gambling establishments, but not to my liking or standard.
All around, it was an 'experience' but not that fantastic after a 4500 mile journey to see it.
    Let's hope Vegas is different.

@@brycemcdermaid7995 Hey this may be a little late but the thunderstorms are typically either servere or mild. Sometimes you'll get a tornado or flash flood scare but it doesn't typically get out of hand and dangerous.

Went my parents took us in 1990, that's how it looked. My dad remembered it as a neat little western town he listed as a kid in the 60s. What we got was the gambling joint you described, and he was pretty vocal about his disappointment. We left almost immediately and scratched it entirely from our vacation itinerary.

You just can't help but love the wonderful Deadwood Street Actors! Shooting guns that smoke! It doesn't get any better! I love Deadwood so much that I wrote a tune about it called Deadwood and several others like Wild Bill Hickok, Calamity Jane. It would be an honor to share them with you! Just click on my picture and they will come up! It isn't necessary to dress up like the actors on the Deadwood streets while listening to my videos, but if you want to that would be very cool too! Have fun!

    • @rayhummel8921

Yes, gun fights in the streets by street actors are a sight you will not want to miss! Deadwood has moved me emotionally since I visited there. The history so fascinates me that I was moved to write many tunes that are on you tube such as DEADWOOD, DEADWOOD (Instrumental) , WILD BILL HICKOK, CALAMITY JANE, ETC just left click on my little picture below my video and all songs come up. To visit the graves sights of Wild Bill Hickok, Calamity Jane etc. on top of Mt Mariah Cemetery Hill in Deadwood is simply an emotional experience! Yes they were REAL people! Many of the other residents are also fascinating as well! Make a trip to Deadwood! A beautiful little town set in a valley!
