Coming from a CTS-V Wagon, C7 Vette, ATS-V, I decided on a Mini Cooper to get it out of my system. I'm shocked at how much I enjoy the car. It is lowered and tuned and makes a crazy amount of torque for a 2.0L! Great little car.

The old school 2 doors are so sick and usually done up pretty good. And the instrument clusters and stuff on the new ones look awesome too, i love minis

That's a cute little car. Every time I see Mini Coopers, I always think of The Italian Job lol. It's too bad Little Sarah couldn't go with you. I don't know if you're already home or not, but if not, then I hope you continue to have a safe trip.
On a related note, long highway trips were always kind of miserable in the Mini. The car wants to take a corner constantly, so it's fatiguing to hold it straight for long periods of time. You did seem kind of tired of driving in this trip. Long wheelbases and relaxed steering rates are preferred for long highway drives IMO.
You're definitely getting some heat now, if you're getting into press events. Congrats. Great content from it, so win-win. ☺
looked like a good time. The R53/R56 cars were the best (new) MINIs imo with the size & performance. This F55/56 gen are just too big and for their price, make you look at bigger cars like the Golf, Corolla Hatch, Civic Hatch, and Mazda3. Yes, MINI is a lifestyle, and you choose to drive a MINI. Did you like the sport seats? What was you MPG on the trip? What other features on the 5-door MCS did you like/dislike. Did you get to use the LED headlights at night? Is it worth stepping up to the Signature & Iconic trims, over the Classic, to get the LED headlights?

R53 Cooper S, one of the best handling cars I have driven, once you get the run flats off.
I used to live in Tucson bitd and occasionally would drive around in the southwest. We rented a new 240sx coupe one time and drove to the Grand Canyon! Haha showing my age

Wish when I drove around the country with my RS6 l would have looked you up. Left Mission Viejo to Phoenix and took 60 north to get up to 40. Great road to drive illegally fast on. Maybe my next trip cross country I will be lucky enough to meet you. Thanks for the entertainment.

I had a 3 cylinder 1.5L mini. Even though it's not an S, the torque off idle was great. It kinda got me addicted to turbos in general. Now I drive a 2019 5.3L Silverado that was from AZ in a U-Haul fleet. Every car I get is completely different from the last one. Since it's a regular cab 2wd, it's light and would do well on the Beans score. But since it was from AZ, it didn't have posi, so I discovered that is a huge problem in Ohio winters, lol. Winter storm coming tonight, so I might be locked in for awhile.

Brodie Bennett you must be into pain if you would like a 1275 to go that distance those things are bone shaker's let alone the noise I know IV been in lots of them being from the UK short distance great long distance horrid

I get sleepy on trips so I bring a big can of nuts and munching them helps keep me alert. I also make stops at least every couple hours. If I still feel dangerously un-alert I will get a can of monster drink. It's as good as a couple cups of Joe, and doesn't make you stop for bathroom breaks as much.

What an Awesome adventure Sarah, I use to Work in Sacramento for years at Volvo and Saab then went to Missouri to work for Porsche but got seriously ill so now in Grants Pass OR. take care always enjoy your adventure.

yeah, the Rose Bowl is in fact a football stadium. It's where UCLA plays. And my team was in the Rose bowl in 2012 against Wisconsin. My dad, brother and I were there in the stadium cheering on our team (Oregon Ducks) and we won. First time we were rose bowl champs in 95 years!!! yeah, that's right, 95 stinkin years!!! It was sooooo fun. I even remember the final score: 35-28.

Sarah,no hope you got an S ! I have an 09 ( original owner) and brought it back when you could really personalized the car's options to the extent that they said no two Mini Coopers were alike. I miss that! I got the exact color scheme and materials that I wanted, even down to the headliner. They don't do that anymore sadly😕

my r56 and r53 of my wife's both were completely tuned out. hers was actually faster with the thumper 1.8 conversion and the twin screw sprintex .

If you want to see some realy rough roads you should drive in the north east were all the roads are frost heaved.
You got to do a little hop along Route 66. Me and a buddy of mine did the whole route as a bucket list vacation a couple of years ago...a two-week long road trip. It was soul cleansing!
I drove a mini cooper s on a 12hr road trip... I was so interested in buying one until that trip.. you feel every crack in the road. It's a big difference going from the comfort of my avalanche to a mini.... gawd I had so much back pain during the road trip.... but I also suffered a herniated disc 3 years ago
The classic 1275 GT was a square nose not a round nose, at least in the UK. I had an Innocenti Cooper S (round nose) back in the day, and a Clubman Estate. Now we have a 3 door Cooper S Hatch, having recently given a leased Paceman Cooper S back.

Give me the old Mini any day. As Mike Brewer (he of "Wheeler Dealers" fame) once said: "I think that every single person in the UK should own a Mini at one time of their life". I had a 1978 Mini 850 back in 1993 and it was the most fun I had on 4 wheels. That 1275GT had the rounded front end. As far as I'm aware they had the Clubman front end. You should check out Project Binky which is a 1980 Mini with Toyota Celica GT4 running gear. I've been to the factory where the BMW MINI is built at Cowley in Oxford in the UK.

I have to watch this in 480p. Cause I have to recuperate some cash after driving cross country in my FoST. Had to cut back on Mbps.
As much as I'd like to love the latest MINIs, I just can't. Seems like they've lost their charm after the R50/52/53 series. Stinks because I'd like to get something new to replace my '04 R53 but the closest thing in personality that I can find to replace it is a Focus RS or a GTI.

Personally I really enjoyed driving those Mini and on a plus side being 6'2 these cars have such good head room. Never knew until I drove one. There such fun cars and really good for having low Center gravity. However i would never buy one due to the fact I would say a majority of them have such horrible reliability. It's a money pit buying a used.
Sorry Sarah sac to Pasadena has no drive along the coast. But trust me not much to look at when driving as I live in Santa Cruz Cali

You were about an hour from where I used to live in California (Santa Clarita-pasadena) now I live way up in Idaho 😂 California has some of the worst roads I've been on. San Fernando valley and the 5 are TERRIBLE where you'll hit a bump and cry about what it did to the vehicle your in.. and I drive stock suspension trucks and still get concerned about it ripping the oilpan off😂
I was wondering if I want MINI or mazada CX-50.... I"m concerned with the RELIABILITY of the minis , since they have such a bad rep....I'm not able to work on my own stuff any more.. so am concerned with this.. SUGGESTIONS? IDEAS???
