    Awesome walkthrough. I was looking for a reversing polarity switch diagram - and your UA-cam video came up on Google result page: only thing that would've made it better is an actual drawn out wiring diagram/pin out... As I had to zoom in to see your pins. But overall, sweet job 👍

    Hi Mik Master
    I am working on wiring in a motor into my car in the exact same way you have. The motor controls a small valve which opens and closes my exhaust. I purchased a genuine switch that fits in my car perfectly. It is a momentary switch which rocks upwards and downwards and then returns to centre. However it only has 2 connectors and not three connectors how you have demonstrated.
    Is there any way at all to make this work? (I apologise if this is a silly question, I am a novice when it comes to these things. Just doing projects to learn).
    Thanks

      I never assume how a switch works. Most of them work how I expect but I always check them with a meter. Do you know the actual details of the switch? In this video you need to be able to apply power to one of the relays at a time. I’m not sure off the top of my head how you could do it with only one output signal from a switch…

      I work with mostly 12 volt in my line of work. Reversing direction of a AC motor is difficult from what I understand. The stuff I’m using is 12 volt 30 amp rated. You would have to use relays with contacts that are rated for your load (130 volts 25 amps) the coil could be triggered by lower voltage, just depends on the relay…

      It’s a 12 volt motor out of a RV Slideout. It’s 12 volt, the relays are rated at 30 amps. This is the video for for DPDT switch. ua-cam.com/video/_TotMbbH1ms/v-deo.html This info was not important for me to put in the video. It’s a video on how to wire 2 relays to reverse polarity. You would need to find relays that will handle whatever load you are trying use. How many amps does that motor draw. Is it really a 130 volt DC motor not AC? I think it might be difficult to find relays that size, at least I couldn’t find any. I work on primarily RVs so that motor you are trying to use is out of my scope of focus.

      @@mikmaster63 Thank you. I have this problem with my kayak's trolling motor that uses 6-pin rocker switch for doing reverse polarity on-off-on. The problem is that this switch is rated 30 amps, but eventually it fails (melts) every few months in the middle of the sea. the motor is "only" 12v DC 20A (max). No matter how many different switches brands I have tried, they all fail eventually. some on the handle, some melts from the inside, nothing lasts.
      Also, there aren't many high AMPS 6 pin switches. they all range 20-30 amps and they all fail.
      I think this solution will solve the problem.

      It’s sounds to me that there is another issue. Most of the relays I use are rated at 30 amps also. Check what amp draw the motor is actually drawing. It could be loose connections or a bad motor. Also, try a marine type switch (something water proof) maybe the moisture is corroding the switch…

      When its 95 degrees Fahrenheit outside with intense usage of few hours twice a week, the plastic parts of those switches get distorted. It happens every 5 months in average. Tried some metal switches they also falied with some plastic pin inside. With a relay THERE IS NO PLASTIC INSIDE. The switching is done with metals alone.

    • @mikmaster63
      @mikmaster63  2 роки тому +1

      I have built something very much like that. You would series in the reed switch between the switch output and the relay coil. The reed switch would have to be able to carry the coil load, which should be very low. So when the magnet reaches the reed switch it would open that circuit and the switch wouldn’t be able to send power to the coil. I can try and make a diagram when I can if you need…

      I think you could just wire in the joystick where the switch is. In this set up we’re just sending positive voltage to the coil of the relay. So the left relay energized moves the motor one direction and energizing the other relay moves it in the opposite direction. I haven’t played around with joysticks so I would need to know which one. I would think any joystick that works like the switch would work easily. If you want it to have speed control check out last weeks video and the one going up later today.
