- These are my first impressions on the Lumen Handpan!
Corrections:
Turns out there ARE other electronic handpan competitors, I had no idea. There's the NeoTone and the Wavepan. In the past there was the Oval Handpan, but it appears to be discontinued. Also, it appears Lumen began it's life as a Indigogo project back in 2016, the inventor didn't mention it to me so I didn't know about that stage of development.

In case it's relevant to anybody the Neotone is also available (for preorder); it's also hand pan shaped and it's much more expensive but also more realistic. The models they're working on right now are between 2.5 and 3 thousand euros + vat and they'll soon be doing preorders. They have a waiting list you can join if interested. If you're lucky enough to be in Budapest (Hungary) you can go try them
You didn’t mention that this was initially a Kickstarter project. I’ve had my Lumen Handpan for a couple of years now. It’s very fun! My biggest complaint is that there isn’t enough onboard storage to hold even all of the factory provided sample sets. What initially attracted me was the possibility of making my own samples for it, but with such limited memory, I haven’t bothered.
That keyboard looks like a UFO! Someone call X-Files.
I'm a kit drummer predominantly with a leaning towards also adding bongos and cajon on occasion. Hand pan/tongue drum has always seemed interesting but this seems over the top... either way its at least $1000 US or upward of $1500 AUS...
The Neotone is another high quality version of an electronic handpan that has been recently released. Also, several years ago yhe Oval was released. Eventually support dried up and the app had bugs that were never fixed. Neotone has been working on this for a few years. Good review though. But please don't use Sweetwater as the source for quality handpans. The ones there are mostly manufactured in China, like the Amazon ones you posted about as well. There are artisan manufacturers around the world that can create beautiful quality custom instruments for comparable prices and much better customer support direct from the makers and not a factory in China. 😉✌️
Can you review the Millenium MPS 850? I want to buy it, and there's really no in-depth review on it.-

There is also an afordable midi handpan: Wavepan from Germany works with cinematic instruments pandrum and sounds much better as the lumen handpan

Good review. You mentioned several times that Lumen is the only one who makes digital handpans. There is a company called Neotone that makes digital handpans that I believe are far superior. Perhaps you could check them out and do a comparison video. I would appreciate your thoughts on this. Thanks you
