      Not many people have done this stuff but I have for 50 years. Trouble when you start to get over the hill you look back and think I could do that once upon a time. I did do that a hundred times. Hubnting the elk with the horses like they did earlier. One of my daughters did that, like a squirell on top of that horse goign up thouugh nasty forest. We fell on horses but they were ours and our buddy's and we took care of each other.
      And we packed off hundreds of elk. I have to teach the Grandkids now, they ride like their Mom already. My only Grand-daughter is old enough this year for her first elk hunt. Hope I can hang on to pass on the thousand skills I learned the hard way to the boys. Nothing more wonderful than hunting in mountains like that, free, clean air, and beauty.

      @Hank Scorpio We have never dealt with a pandemic in this fashion. The damage we are doing by locking down is not worth the benefit. we are ruining our immune systems. This is just a political game to make the Trump look bad. I live just comfortably out of the city. The numbers do not add up to the irrational response. I only know of 3 people that have been effected. These cases were 2 young persons who could barely tell they were sick and 1 77 year old woman that had been on oxygen in a home that beat it. I have been watching your videos for well over a year now. Rose and Jeff are the perfect mother and father. They raise their daughters teaching them that they can do anything. To me they are the closest thing to a perfect family. Their daughters can have opinions without fear of reprisal. Whenever they are pushed Jeff and Rose know that their daughters can do it. If they fall, they pick them up and help them and encourage them to complete the task at hand. I truly believe there's nothing these girls can't accomplish. They can look to their parents who have cut out a little piece of the Earth and made it their home. Much respect to the whole family.

    • @4philipp
      @4philipp 4 роки тому +3

      If you consider the world to be a zero sum game, then debt is the only factor driving growth. An unlimited resource that doesn’t really exists.
      So would we still live the 1800’s dream without debt?
      Poverty is not defined by what you have, but by how much (or little) you can borrow. Which in turn is defined by your ability and likelihood to repay it.

      The basic premise and assumption there gets people in trouble. We cannot forget our Creator, our Judge and our Redeemer. To assume that the fruitfulness of the earth is simply a zero sum game, and debt is the only expansion tool (never mind the basic premise that what cannot go on forever won't) is a really poor way to look at things, in a literal sense.

    I love your story. When I was a teenager I would have happily moved to the bush and lived off grid. No problem for me, it’s what I wanted. My husband had a different idea though. We were not city people and we lived in a tiny town but he liked his electricity. We did have rainwater tanks connected to the house. Our house was very cheap and over 70 years old but on a quarter acre of land. We raised chickens for eggs and I had a large vegetable garden. As we got older and could finally afford more land we bought a 16 acre plot at 45 years of age. We built a big house on it but all the kiddos had left home so we were in too deep of debt for nothing. We sold it and moved to a 5 acre farm with a decent old house (20 years old) and we added solar electricity to our roof to save money. We still had a small mortgage at 55 but it was manageable. We raised alpacas and still had chickens, vegetables garden and a huge orchard. Life was finally at a point where we could enjoy it. But, then I had a bad accident and needed lots of surgeries to help me to walk. I already had arthritis but staying busy was keeping it in check. I didn’t get to enjoy the farm for long and it was all left to my husband to run. We struggled for several years and then 3 years ago I lost my husband so I had to sell the farm and move into town. I was 62 before I was free of debt but all I had was a tiny 3 bedroom basic house on a tiny plot in a busy town. I am grateful that I have a home. I am raising three grandchildren so they love having a stable home. They miss the farm, like me. I just wish we had taken the chance to move out Bush when our kiddos were little. You did it at the right time.

    Great video. Changing how we think and see options instead of roadblocks is huge. Appreciating what you have versus focusing on what you don't have. When people tell me I am living the dream I sometimes correct them and say, I am working the dream. The reality of a simpler lifestyle is there is a lot of work and a lot of doing things the hard way. I really enjoy that bu some people might not. However, every time I go outside and watch the grand-kids play in what we built or we eat a meal that we grew or harvested, I am reminded of why I do it. Thanks for sharing this.

    Thank you for sharing so much of yourselves with us. I calculated quickly just in mortgage, land taxes and house insurance what we have paid out in the 9 years on our hobby farm and the total is enough to make me feel ill. I’m tried of working to make everyone else’s life easy but still stay so hard for us. My man lived off grid for 17 years before we got together and I lived off grid for two years as a child. I want this life again so badly... it’s time to stop wasting our life’s paying and paying everyone but ourselves. And with everything going on in the world now I personally would like to distance myself. PS love your place! You guys have done an amazing job! Love all your video’s. keep up the good work!

    People rarely stop to think about the true cost of our conveniences. They're really not so convenient when you think of it that way. It has always blown my mind that people will work for 30 years to pay for a house, when you could build one mostly from materials around you in about a year. A well set up off grid system isn't nearly as hard in day to day life as you'd think. And I mean non electric- not even solar. But the FREEDOM, oh the freedom. That's the most amazing part- and the security!
