  • This is my version of solo van life, a 4WD that can take me anywhere! My budget build was perfect for my trip to Tasmania and back with my dog, Phoebe, and it is so easy you could build it yourself!
    I posted a photo of my setup on a few Facebook pages and the response I got was overwhelming! Loads of question regarding the setup so thought a car tour would be an easy way to cover everything, enjoy!

    Hi Steph, you are just so practical, love it. I met you through Brenna in your mystery tour in Tassie. I'm hoping to start heading west to Alice Springs in late July and then to Darwin, not sure when but maybe around September. I would love to catch you there if you've not already left. I wish you all the best 💕

    Fabulous. Thanks. So nice to see some Aussie content. Wondered how you went traveling with a dog? Did you feel restricted as to where you could go ? Currently building my kluger to do much the same and have 2 small dogs.

      Hi Alex! Thanks for your lovely message! Yes, I watched a lot of Americans fit out their 4WDs, not so many in Australia sleeping in theirs, more in RTTs or swags, etc. I LOVED travelling with Phoebe (my 2 year old Doberman)! She was an absolute legend. She gave my days structure and helped slow me down, take breaks, take a walk, etc. The only time it was tricky was driving through National Parks as you cant stop, but I just altered my day around those driving hours, just a little research first. But I didnt miss NPs at all, plenty to see! So much to go back and see! I used 'click and collect' a lot for shopping so I didnt have to leave her in the car, and Bunnings lets dogs in so always a good shout if it is raining or too hot to walk out, good nose work and stimulation for her. I would, and will, travel with her again for sure. Not just for security as a solo traveller but for company too, cannot beat it 🐾🖤 Oh and goodluck with your build!!!

      Hi there! Thanks for watching! It is a tri fold mattress made by Spinifex, sold in Anaconda Stores if you are local to Australia 👍

    Can you explain your battery set up please 💕👍🏽

      Hi 😊 I can try, I am not brilliant at it. Basically when I bought my car it already had a second battery installed under the bonnet, common for 4wds. The previous owners used it to power a fridge in the boot. But the wiring was dodgy and I needed a few extras so took it into an auto electrician. They re did the wiring, installed a BCDC to charge the battery when car is running, and a anderson plug on my front grill, so when I am stationary I can charge the battery with my solar blanket. The wiring runs to the back of my car so I can power my fridge. They also changed the cig socket in the boot to run off the second battery so I can run fans/lights without running down main battery. The solar blanket was good, not brilliant, so I recently got a 200w fixed solar panel installed on the roof platform so it will always be charging when car is not running and I dont have to worry about leaving out a blanket. Hope this helps! ❤️

      @@dustyroadtherapy thank you💕 .. that makes so much sense and is exactly what I’m looking for.. something to power my fridge👍🏽
      I’m assuming you have a controller or something to prevent overload ?
      And how do you charge your laptop ?

    • @dustyroadtherapy
      @dustyroadtherapy  Рік тому +1

      @@MyLittleFarmhouse I think the BCDC takes care of everything, but I am no expert. Definately take your car to an auto electrician and have a chat. I dont take a laptop, I do everything on my phone, 1. Because I dont want to lose it, break it or get it stolen, as I need it for Uni, and 2. Because I probably dont have enough power for it. I really need to get a power bank, like an ecoflow/bluetti, as my underbonnet battery is only 105 amp hrs and I cant go any bigger. I did have issues getting enough solar through my solar blanket when stationary on my Tassie trip, so thats why I upgrade to the fixed solar panel, but it will just be enough for my fridge, phone, lights and fan.

    • @MyLittleFarmhouse
      @MyLittleFarmhouse Рік тому

      @@dustyroadtherapy Thank you for clearing that up for me .. I find it all so confusing 😖
      I’ll have to start saving my $ for one of those power banks 👍🏽
