- In today's episode, I cover arcade games that received home console ports on the GameCube (whether it be a straight port or enhanced port). Sit back and enjoy seeing what GameCube games were originally in the arcades first!
If you enjoyed the video, be sure to like, comment, and subscribe for more future GameCube content!
All gameplay (except Cruis'n Blast) was captured in-house using an Elgato HD60, paired with an EON GCHD and mClassic.

Sega really was the king of the arcade for a bit. It was great that after the fall of the Dreamcast Sega was still able to bring these titles home.
Agreed. Sega had some truly exceptional arcade games and I’m glad they continued to bring those arcade experiences to home consoles despite the Dreamcast’s fall (fantastic system btw). Thanks for checking out the video man!
And I have now seen every GameCube Galaxy video! This one I missed and was on my watchlist for a while!
Awesome man!! Glad you got to check out the video! I really enjoyed covering this topic 👍
I picked up 18-Wheeler not too long ago for the PS2. Haven't played it yet but from the footage you have shown I love the small details like the magazines and sunglasses sliding around. I also have Crazy Taxi and that was a childhood game I got. It was actually the first video game I bought with my own money but I remember being really disappointed because there was no free roam. I've heard of Smashing Drive and Beach Spikers but never played them. ChaosField and Ikaruga looks pretty cool, never heard of them but they're on my list to play now. Oh man, my wife loooooooves Super monkey ball. Awesome video buddy!
18-Wheeler is a really fun (but super short game, like 15-20 minutes to beat it lol). Those little details on the dashboard are awesome for sure. Crazy Taxi is such an iconic game, thanks in part to its sublime soundtrack. I used to do the "Work for 10 Minutes" as my "free roam" mode lol. Smashing Drive is definitely a guilty pleasure that I recommend, and Beach Spikers is great fun! Chaos Field is alright, but Ikaruga is a much better shmup between the 2 games. Your wife has good taste in games since she loves Super Monkey Ball! One of the best games on the system! Thanks for checking out the video man!
I remember so many of these games, playing them in arcades specifically. It's funny how much I go back to "Arcade" style games when hanging out at a Cottage with buddies. It's a genre that doesn't see much love these days unfortunately.
That's awesome you still go back to playing arcade-style games with friends! Honestly, it really is a genre that many companies have abandoned, and it's a shame. Racing games in particular are awesome arcade-style. That's one of the reasons I'm stoked for Cruis'n Blast on Switch...it's finally an arcade game getting an enhanced console port. Thanks again for checking out the video man!
Another well-done video!
For my top favorites in here, I would have to say
18 Wheeler Pro Trucker
Crazy Taxi
Capcom vs. SNK 2
This was a great topic to explore in the Gamecube universe. Very excited about your next topic!
Thank you! Those are great titles for sure, especially Crazy Taxi! Glad you enjoyed the topic video!
Omg Soul Caliber!! I had the Xbox version of it and it had Spawn which was so badass. Btw, the music in Chaos Field is pretty dang catchy lol. Awesome vids please keep them coming!!!
Soul Calibur II was sooooo good! I remember wanting to play as Spawn back in the day, but Link being a special GC exclusive character was too hard to pass up! And yeah, Chaos Field has some catchy techno music! Glad you’re enjoying the videos!!
Excellent video! What a fantastic idea. Never heard of Chaos Field but really liked what I saw.
Thank you! Chaos Field I remember always seeing in a bargain bin at Toys R Us but never got it back then lol. It is a solid shmup for sure, but Ikaruga was definitely my higher pick between the 2 shmups released for the GameCube in North America. Glad you enjoyed the video man!
As always great video my friend. I had 18 wheeler in my hand yesterday and opted for something else. Great video here. Gauntlet had some issues but is going for a pretty penny right now.
Thank you man! 18 Wheeler I'd say is worth it for a cheap price, but probably not worth more than $10-15 IMO. It's crazy seeing how much Gauntlet Dark Legacy is going for on the GameCube, especially since it has so many bugs on the GC version. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Time to pick up "Smashing Drive".
Definitely a guilty pleasure for me. I’ve replayed the game countless times and still thoroughly enjoy it 👍
I've heard of most of these games, so it was nice to see them covered here. The only ones I've played are Crazy Taxi and a bit of Soul Calibur 2.
Nice! Crazy Taxi and Soul Calibur 2 are definitely the most commonly known/played ones, so I was glad to be able to showcase the others as well. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Ahhh now that’s how 18 Wheeler Pro American Trucker looks 🤔 kind of has the Crazy Taxi graphics for sure, looks fun though something I would enjoy! I have Crazy Taxi for the Dreamcast but my Dreamcast isn’t working, I wouuld love to play it already 😭 nice arcade games you mentioned!
18 Wheeler definitely has that SEGA look and feel to it, for sure! Oh man, that's a bummer your Dreamcast isn't working! I just got myself a Dreamcast back in 2016 and was really impressed with how ahead of its time that console was. Actually, since you cover the OG Xbox on your channel, there's Crazy Taxi 3 on there, that also has Crazy Taxi 1 & 2 included! Thank you for checking out the video and glad you enjoyed it!
Nice list! This was also a strong suit for the Dreamcast which is where I played Crazy Taxi... a lot! Man that soundtrack was phenomenal! Gauntlet Dark Legacy is probably in my top 3 of arcade cab where I've put the most tokens in... it's so good! Never heard of Virtua Striker 2002 but I like Soccer games so I'll definitely have to check it out! Great video and keep up the good work!
Thank you man! Crazy Taxi is such a blast to play, and easy to keep revisiting! Gauntlet Dark Legacy is really good fun too! I do wish the GC port was handled better, but it's still a really fun time regardless! Virtua Striker 2002 is definitely a lesser known game, but a good soccer game I wish I played back when it came out. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Great list! Ikaruga is an instant classic shmup! Calibur 2 is my favorite in the series. All ports are fantastic! I love when people give soccer games some love. There are some great soccer games out there! The more “arcadie” ones like the one you’ve showcased here is a prime example! Keep up the great work my friend !
Thank you! Ikaruga is such an awesome shmup! Soul Calibur II is also my favorite in the series for sure. I’m glad you enjoyed seeing a soccer game incorporated here! I also prefer “arcadie” style sports games. Glad you enjoyed the video man!
My dad and I would play 18 Wheeler together when I was a little kid. Some of my earliest multiplayer memories!
That’s awesome! Love hearing memories like that tied to certain games. 18 Wheeler is a blast (despite how short it is lol). Thanks for checking out the video!
Really cool video mate 😊
Thank you man! Glad you enjoyed it!
Still need to get around to playing crazy taxi and soulcalibur. It's interesting to see how many of these came to the gamecube. I wonder if they we overall were better received on home console, rather than in arcades?
Oh man, Crazy Taxi and Soul Calibur II are so good! I knew several of these games started in the arcades, but wasn’t aware of games like Chaos Field and Virtua Striker 2002 starting off in the arcade. Some games like Soul Calibur II were better received on their home console conversions due to enhancing the games drastically, whereas something like Smashing Drive was panned for being a lackluster port with no additional content. I do miss this era in gaming though, seeing games at an arcade and wondering if they would get a home console conversion down the line. Thanks again for checking out the video man!
Great list!!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video!
Love me some 18 wheeler 👍
Definitely an enjoyable game that’s great for those quick pickup-and-play sessions 👍. Thanks for checking out the video man!
I wish there was Daytona 2.... would love to play that
There is a Daytona USA 2 that released exclusively in arcades, and looks awesome! I REALLY wish Sega would just bring that to consoles today…
@@GameCubeGalaxy I know but on arcades haha
Hey man, I really enjoy your videos. I'd highly recommend investing into a better microphone though. All of your videos have audible popping and crackling, making them much harder to enjoy. Are you using a cheap USB headset?
Hey man, thanks for the feedback! I’m actually using the built-in mic of my MacBook Pro since that seems to provide the best quality compared to a few different USB microphones I’ve purchased to try out, and results were actually worse. I am looking into getting a Yeti microphone since many seem to speak highly of that. Glad you enjoy the videos and truly do appreciate that feedback!
ARTIC THUNDER
Another great arcade game! Although it never got ported to the GameCube unfortunately, just PS2 and Xbox.
@@GameCubeGalaxythat's true
Super Monkey Ball ❤
