Aki's character is so well developed. From episode 1 he's the guy textbook "strict/follow the rules" guy who hates devils/only sees them as tools, and then slowly as denji and eventually power move in with him he starts loosening up, which Makima also remarks in like episode 4. We see Aki taking a knife to protect denji (a devil in his eyes), and finally in episode 12 Aki lets go and goes along with denji to kick the guy in the nuts when he knows he shouldn't. The beauty of the ending visuals just goes to show despite how everything he's been through and how bleak the future looks, he found some solace in the company of two devils. Fuck I love Aki so much.
I think the ghost devil didn’t care about Himeno or Aki, but when Aki had the flashback he stopped being afraid so the ghost couldn’t sense his presence anymore (probably thought he was dead). The hand that held out the cigarette was Himeno’s, and she was still inside of the ghost as part of giving all of herself to it, which is why Aki says a final goodbye to her before killing ghost.

I don't think so personally. When she said she'd give Ghost everything she had, that most likely included her memories and feelings. I think the choice to die was made by the ghost devil herself.

My theory is that the Ghost Devil was fulfilling its last contract with Himeno. Remember Devils can't go against contracts. Himeno's last contract was to "Give me everything and I'll give you everything" but remember she did that to save Aki, whether it was said or not.
Also ghosts in general, especially in Japan, are known for embodying the regrets and wishes of people.

As for the reason why Ghost did that its probably because ghosts (in media) are known for finishing unfinished business, may it be a grudge, or a wish.
Devils mirror how they're usually portrayed, kinda like how katana man's dash, which is a common trope for katana wielding characters.
I am 100% convinced of the "Ghost = unfinished business" theory
Katana Mans speed slash is based on Iai drawing technique. Which is said to he the fastest katana strike. So the perception of it is overblown and exaggerated in devil form.
Don't worry, a lot of readers are hit by the "reading comprehension devil" and have differing perspectives. Kishibe is pronounced Key-Shi-Bay. The exact translation for the future devil is "[Aki] wil die the worst death imaginable." Also this is mainly a personal theory, but I think the ghost hand that gave Aki the cig was the hand that Himeno controlled with her contract, and thus she had a degree of influence over it even after death.

i really like that they just kill sawarti off here. her mysterious introduction kinda sets you up to think she's gonna have a bigger role to play and grow into a major antagonist... but it's like oooop nah. she done.

"Easy revenge!" refers to seizing what's in your grasp. Celebrating small victories. It was also foreshadowing. Aki does get his Easy Revenge.🚬 The Country Mouse & The City Mouse is a reference to the book that Taiyou, (Aki's brother) was reading on the day he died in episode 3 or 4...I can't remember. That scene is a really big tease for the next arc. The Country Mouse and The City Mouse is one of Aesop's fables. It basically asks you if you would live a quiet, peaceful life like a country mouse or live more of a dangerous, exciting life like a city mouse.🐀🐁
I don't think it is intended, but the way I see it is Aki smoked his "easy revenge", which would be what Himeno wanted. For Aki to get out and live a life. It seems like they repeatedly show Aki is all in, no matter the price. They've given him multiple outs from the life, but he needs the hard revenge.
It also works when he brings it back out while just finishing a nice outing with Denji and Power: his little family. His... Easy Revenge. And he decides to turn it to ash rather than hold onto it.
Which... If he's got 2 years left, then he's kinda already in, but Himeno wanted him out before that last fight using the Curse Devil Nail-Sword.
But that's just how I see it, intended or not. But it's from a, "the easiest revenge...", quote from something else that I'm basing my interpretation off of.
@@cctomcat321 pretty sure she’s also talking about how Aki takes “easy revenge”. He put gum in a woman’s hair for slapping Himeno because that was his easiest way at getting back at her. Him kicking Katana Man in the nuts was an easy petty way of getting back at him that also doesn’t endanger him. Himeno has always just wanted him to survive, and attain his goal without losing his life.
@@cctomcat321 basically, I’ve always interpreted it as Himeno wanting Aki to seek revenge that don’t take a toll on him. A prime example is Aki and Denji kicking Katana Man in the jewel. It’s revenge for killing Himeno, but unlike Aki’s revenge for the Gun Devil, this revenge is much easier to attain

Speaking of, I think it's pretty much like most others already said concerning the Ghost Devil's final moments.... it seems she inherited Himeno's last will, similar to when she pulled Denji's cord earlier. As for why she attacked Aki at first, I assume it's because she didn't recognize him right away due to her blindness. But as soon as he had that flashback and calmed down, she handed him the cig straight away.... so it looks like she can somehow identify others through their lack of fear. At least, that's my two cents on the matter.
CSM isn't the most 'logical' world, not everything is explained or needs to be explained really.

This season adopted a third of the manga, 38 chapters to be exact.
I really hope season 2 will be 24 episodes long so the rest of the 'first part' of the manga can be animated in one go.
honestly i kinda hope they do a movie for the next arc, and then another season. give best girl her own movie. and the action scenes in the next arc get so batshit crazy i think its the best point to flex and give it the movie quality animation.

The way to tell whether or not devils are actually dead or not is if they leave a corpse behind.
When the fox devil got sliced open by Katana Man, they evaporated and escaped, same with the ghost devil when they were swallowed by the snake.
The zombie devil, bat, and leech all left corpses behind, as did the ghost when Aki decapitated it.

The easy revenge! cigarette is from the same day when Aki stuck gum to the lady that slapped Himeno. That’s when she finally connected with Aki (before, they weren’t very close). Then when he pulls out the cigarette, he realizes that Himeno would want him to kick sideburns man in the nuts.

my theory for the ghost devil remembering aki or having the cig is remember, himeno sacrificed herself (she said i will give my everything to you, so give your everything to me or something like that) , so it's like she kinda merged completely with the ghost devil itself and lost her existence.. may be that;s why ghost still has himeno's memory or that cigarette
Yeah, that’s my personal interpretation too, and going further with that, I think the reason why the Ghost Devil dropped Aki is because Himeno managed to exert some small measure of control in that moment. I also think Aki was able to walk up and get the easy kill because, knowing Himeno was in there somewhere, he just couldn’t be afraid of the Ghost devil anymore.
Obviously other people have their own interpretations and I’m totally fine with it remaining ambiguous. I don’t think Fujimoto needs to clarify this one, the poignancy is such that a clear cut explanation might undercut the emotions of the scene.
I've read that since Ghost devil can't see, it didn't recognize Aki until he was almost dead, but stopped when Aki lost fear (while remembering Himeno) and remembered the last deal with Himeno (protect Aki).
Also remember, it's the GHOST devil, if any devil is going to have some kind of emotional connection with a dead person, it would be that one.
Nah I don't think that's possible. It may have made a deal to do that if a certain incident happens with Himeno before her death, like the suicide deal the Snake Devil made with Sawatari.
There is a theory in the community that every hand of the ghost devil is the hand of devil hunters that are dead,thats been in contract with the ghost devil if that make sense.
I can't believe 12 weeks just flew by like that 😭 Hopefully we get season 2 next year. The girl at the end is a huge fan favorite for manga readers, so really looking forward to seeing her.

I think the devil gave him the cigarette because it either “remembers” aki or himeno has some form of control over it without actually trying to since she’s dead but she is dead cause of the ghost , since technically the ghost ate himeno.
Himeno must have made another contract with the ghost devil where the ghost devil had to give Aki the cigarette.
In movies it's common that ghosts come back for revenge, vengeance or some other act. Himeno wanted to give that cigarette to Aki, so it was left to the ghost as a "mission"

Fiends are what happens when a weakened Devil takes over a human corpse, so they're always humanoid. The Curse "sword" is a nail, so it'd be pretty useless as a sword. This one's cutting ability's pretty insane, idk if it's something special or just anime physics but it's definitely not the Curse one.
I'm not a manga reader, but it seems like typical anime physics with katanas. You can tell the difference easily between the curse sword and katana by the sheen and tempered metal of the sword.
@@darkstar8196 Yeah, I know. They even make it a point to show the blade when he pulls it the 1st time. The nail wouldn't be able to cut anything and probably can't even stab without the Curse flicking it. But since the Snake lady also says the suits are especially sturdy I wondered if this katana has something special about it too. Even leaving sharpness aside, it's nowhere near long enough for that clean decapitation and It's also too long to be drawn from his back, so maybe it can change length? Pretty sure I'm just overthinking it tho.

Girls the violence fiend doesn't use the mask in order for him to "be less violent", he uses the mask because even though he's a fiend, he's still too strong and they need to nerf him by making him breath poison 24/7. Kishibe said so in the last episode. Usually fiends are far weaker when compared to their Devil forms, but violence fiend is still too strong and needed to be nerfed.
The mask does keep him calm

I feel like the translation "your death will fucking rule" is a mistranslation exactly because it fit the vibe of the future devil, he seems to be this unserious, funny, goofy guy.. but when he turns all serious (in the manga and instead) and says ... "you'll die in the worst way imaginable." You are supposed to be like oh shit, if even he is this grim about it it must be reeeeally bad. I felt like this translation was missing the point of that greatly. Maybe thats just me.
if you want something simialr to CHainsaw Man in terms of 'feel',I'd suggest Dorohedoro (Unless youve already seen it .3.), as well as hellsing (again assuming you haven't seen it). Also Gankutsuou, jsu cause I suggest it all the time.
I cried when I saw her at the end of the episode. The second season will be a thousand times better than the first.
25:38 I think they messed up the subtitles again here. In the original Japanese, they said Sawatari (the snake girl) contracted with the gun devil and distributed guns to the yakuza, in exchange for which “she” (not the gun devil) asked for the chainsaw heart. The older guy that was speaking with Makima even asked “why did Sawatari want the chainsaw heart?” I seriously think they need to fire whoever’s been doing the subtitles because they have messed up so many lines already, including the one about Aki’s death and the one where Himeno was giving up all of her to the Ghost devil. Ugggh!😢

Idk if most ppl remember but in the manga, soul eater had a character who was also powered by chainsaws. It was a shame they didn’t reveal that character in the anime but fujimoto came reaaaaaal close with this leg feature

I don't think the Ghost Devil spared Aki, but more like a little bit of Himeno was still left inside the Devil. It stopped being able to see him because the flashback he remembered made his fear subside.
I assumed it dropped Aki as that was the point he had resigned himself to his future and was no longer scared of death/anything anymore, meaning the ghost couldn't sense him..

Himeno's theme will be on my playlist for the rest of my life. It has as much impact as something like guts' theme or the first layer from made in abyss. I don't understand the petition that wants the anime redone under a new studio, especially when the main claim is that the sound design is bad.

Considering that a devil gets more powerful the more it's name is feared, the Devil Devil would actually be completely broken since everyone's terrified of Devils.
He'd be stronger than the Gun Devil at the very least, which is already ridiculous.

My theory for the cigarette that Ghost gave Aki is it was a trigger setup by Himeno once Aki completely erases his fear in the face of Ghost. It was the same cig btw, the day Himeno took it back and told him she’ll give it to him once he’s ready to develop an addiction.

Yeah, a lot of story beats and plot points in Chainsaw Man are left to inference because in the end, they don’t really matter. Everything in Chainsaw Man exists to serve character development which is the real highlight of the series and what makes it so beloved imo.

I don't think its understood that the katana Aki uses isn't related to the curse. He uses a giant nail that is cursed not the sword even though for some reason they do call it a sword when fighting the eternity devil.
You guys should react to Mushoku Tensei/Jobless Reincarnation because the animation along with the story is just phenomenal. It's a good watch and about 24 episodes I believe!
It has a lot of fan service though. I don't think female reactors will like watching a show with that high amount of needless fan service and objectification of woman. It's a show meant for hardcore otaku's only.

Without spoiling, The Future Devil's, "You're going to die in the worst possible way" line needs to be translated that way cause of the way it's brought back into the story. Any other wording just doesn't make sense. That's why people were so annoyed with the mistranslation.
it also kinda ruins the last episodes cliffhanger. like we know aki isnt gonna die becasue it wouldn't "fucking rule". but getting choked out by himenos devil before he could accomplish anything could arguably qualify as the "dying in the worst way possible"
The violence fiend's gas mask doesnt weaken him. They're saying that the Violence Fiend, even as a fiend, is still very dangerous so they make him wear a gas mask that *dispenses* poison as a precaution to insta-kill him if he ever rebels
Kishibe said "dispenses", I understood that as the mask constantly dispensing poison to keep him weak

I hope the next arc is covered in a movie. 120 minutes are enough to cover the whole story, and we'll have the last season for the final section of the first part (from International Assassins until the grand meal).
