@@justme5465 what are about power? I think showing the results of the training and overall fights was poorly executed. We barely saw Power. We barely saw Power & Aki fight and use his eye. Denji's fight scene was obviously longer than those two's but still shorter. Denji had a chance to show his training throughout the fight but still get his arms cut off and then catch him off guard with his trap instead of getting beat all the way down to the train to win with one move.
@@ArcticPrimal Power learned to be less wasteful with her blood manipulation and got her mojo back, which we can infer from her limiting herself to just the two blood machetes in her hallway fight, and we saw Aki dodging bullets with the Future Devil's power. Not a manga reader, but you can use context clues to figure those things out. It would have been cooler to see them in action a bit more though, but there was limited time in the episode to have both the Katana fight and set up the next season, so I forgive them.

Also, its not getting her mojo back because she never lost it with weaker opponents, that was her choosing not to run away because zombie are weak foes. She has never run away from weak foes however if she stood her ground with an actual strong opponent then yes she got her mojo back. Like I said poor execution, that's my only criticism but the episode wasn't that bad only disappointing for me personally
How is it "poorly executed"? Both fight scenes were functional. Power doesn't really get in any major fights in the manga so I'm not sure what you were expecting
There were many references this episode. The "Easy Revenge" cigarette is a reference to FLCL. Katana Man vs Chainsaw Man was also confirmed to be inspired from Doc vs Spiderman and the nut kicking requiem scene is obviously taken from the famous HxH phantom troupe Requiem scene
Denji saying to Katana man that "he's gonna live the rest of his life in prison happily,and I just don't like that" is also a clear homage to Inglorious Basterds' ending!

@@sammalla5238 I mean,part of the reason why he set the story in the Public Safety division of Tokyo is because he wanted everyone to be in suits like it was Reservoir Dogs,so he definitely is...probably why both that movie and Pulp Fiction get referenced in the OP
Also,they way he portrays shooting scenes,like the one in episode 8 with Makima,has always felt very Tarantino to me
Wait a minute, the Chainsaw Man anime was adapted from the manga, and the manga already had the train top fight scene, so how is it inspired from doc vs Spider-Man. Unless you meant the Doc Ock vs Spidey from SP2

The country mouse and the city mouse is one of Aesops fables, it basically asks if you would rather live a quiet country life or a more dangerous exciting city life. It is also the story Aki's parents are reading to his little brother when we saw them earlier. The whole scene is mostly a giant tease for the next arc
it is also symbolic for aki's jouney from that point.
Most importantly however, best girl Reze is coming.
its kinda symbolic for a lot of characters in Chainsaw Man. Its like one of the main themes of Chainsaw Man, would your rather be a country mouse or a town mouse?

Loved the scene where Aki smokes the Easy Revenge cigarette. It's entirely anime original but wow did it hit. So much communicated without speaking.
It's a great "pour one out" moment. It was an entirely realistic scene in such a crazy anime.
There was such a vibe to this scene. And seeing Denji and Power in the background, passed out in front of the table full of empty plates was such a nice touch. They really do feel like a family.
Also, Aki quits smoking after this. It's a nice bit of closure that his last smoke is the cig that Himeno gave him, which was originally supposed to be his first.
I love that we see the easy disapear but revenge is still there, is a nice foreshadow

That final scene was something mappa just decided to throw in for the fans, absolutely loved it. Can't wait to see that character next season

Still insane to me some people apparently aren't satisfied by the animation to far.
Just ignore them, some fandoms be like that. I love the manga, but I knew going in that no matter how solid an adaptation it turned out to be, there would be some folks going, “it’s not how I would have adapted it!” And some of the Japanese fans are bashing the voice actors purely because they’re not big names, which is just beyond ridiculous.
@@doctordoom85 The people who bash on the voice actors for not being big names are the absolute dumbest. The voice acting is stellar in this anime. It gives newer actors time to shine and opens up future prospects for them.
@@doctorsnakeeater1997 Agreed. Denji’s VA is apparently brand new, but he did great in both the goofy and serious moments. Aki sounded spot on. Power sounds like she’s having the time of her life as she should, but in that moment of emptiness after she thought Meowy died, she also could do serious moments as well. Makima is great, people complaining about her voice seem to not get her being calm and confident is perfect for the character. Kishibe sounds AWESOME. Himeno was excellent and nailed the chemistry between her and Aki. And Kobeni, my MVP voice performance, sounded like the seiyuu was having actual panic attacks in the recording booth. Mind you, I’m not one of those blind fans who rate every Japanese VA as absolutely perfect, but this cast truly did capture for me what these characters felt like in the manga.
Yeah, the animation itself is great, I can't understand what complaint someone could have with that. Voice acting was fine, not sure who these people wanted but if they just wanted some famous celebrities then those aren't actually fans.

There's a theory that Himeno's deal is becoming part of the ghost devil's hands. That's why the hand gave him the cigar
The flashback scene is drawn from Aki's point of view, but it's not only Aki who remembers it, but Himeno has always treasured the "Promised Cigarette" until this moment.
It's such a beautiful story.
The meaning of "easy revenge" is Himeno's wish:
"Don't let revenge invade your heart."
“You can’t keep calm because of your revenge.”
"Take care of yourself, Aki."
Aki was able to recall the characteristics and weaknesses of the "Ghost Devil" revealed by Himeno in the past through the message written on the "Promised Cigarette".
"Ghost Devil" was also a long-cherished desire if she was defeated by Aki.

For anyone who doesn't want to wait around (likely) 2 years for the next season of Chainsaw Man and would like to start the manga, this season adapted up to before the last three pages of chapter 38 (which is collected in Volume 5 of the tankōbon).
Also regarding Aki’s age when he first met Himeno/joined Public Safety (and it was stated in episode 2 that Aki has worked at Public Safety for at least 3 years), when he said he was a minor/underage, that was likely meant to imply he was 18 or 19 years old when Aki first met Himeno. As not only is the smoking and drinking age still 20 in Japan, the "age of majority" (the term for when a person is considered an adult in the context of most legal matters) in Japan was 20 until early 2022 when it was lowered to 18 (though the voting age had been lowered to 18 in 2016). And since Aki has already been drinking and smoking for a good amount time, he’s probably meant to be 21-22 in the present day of the series (which is 1997 for those curious). So Himeno’s relationship with Aki didn’t start anywhere nearly as inappropriate/“cradle-robbing” as her interactions with Denji were this season.
And yeah in regards to what exactly happened with Aki and the Ghost Devil, I have to assume that Aki blacking-out caused him to become "invisible" to the Ghost Devil and thus dropped Aki because it couldn't "see" him anymore (and presumably Akane Sawatari [the Snake Devil girl] was ignorant about the Ghost Devil's sight limitation/weakness) and then one of the hands giving Aki the cigarette from Himeno was probably some "last wish/instructions" Himeno may have given the Ghost Devil before she died. The manga wasn't anymore clear on that matter than the anime was.
Also the dream Denji had was first shown at the beginning the very first episode (though before it didn't have Pochita's voice coming from the door), meaning Denji has been having that dream even before he fused with Pochita and became a hybrid.
And for clarification, the girl seen at the end of this episode isn't one that has been introduced yet or seen before in the story.

The fact that the ending song music video is also the actual scenes playing out leading to the ending credits is such a nice touch. Can't wait to see what part 2 brings.
Chainsaw Man's finale was absolutely breathtaking and incredible. I can't wait for more episodes and to see my favorite manga scenes animated...
Nah I didn't feel it, the manga was great but the anime its different. The animation is incredible but it feels boring. In the manga all this scene from this season were amazing but when its animated it wasn't there. Also what the heck with this ost? They are just recycling it. I mean I want to hear some new soundtrack.

This episode was disappointing where was the training which they hyped up with power and denji. It was just them doing what they've always done plus we barely saw Power & Aki fight. Denji's fight scene was obviously longer than those two's but still shorter. Denji got his ass beat from the top floor until the train and then when he finally attacks suddenly without no arms and he's able to win with one move. Previous fight scenes were 100% better and they weren't even trained, the finale was supposed to top that with their improved fighting skills from the training.
In regards to the door, it's actually the shot that the very first episode opened with, except it stopped before pochita talked.
God I wish this season was longer i wanted to see the next arc animated so baad!!

I feel like the tease of that girl at the end is a nod to the marvel end credits scene. Showing a person that only people who have read the source material recognize, and teasing everyone else.

Ive never had a show make me want to read the manga as much as this, except maybe Tokyo Revengers, Next season/arc is about to be INSANE I can already tell. This anime was hyped up for like a year and IMO it definitely lived up to the hype

I started reading because people are relentless with spoilers on this show more than any other. By episode two I made a comment and someone was like "OH well xyz happens so don't worry"...like I didn't want to know, I wanted to speculate and discover with everyone else

When Katana Man pulled off his hand, that was his way of activating his devil powers. All hybrids have a unique way of doing that. Denji pulls the ripcord in his chest and Katana Man unsheathes the sword in his hand.

Denji and Katana man are the same in that they aren't demons nor fiend, but rather hybrids.
All hybrids are "human" until they trigger their transformation, in case of Denji pulling the cord(as in a chainsaw) and for Katana man removing his left hand(to unsheet the Katana, since most samurai were right handed)
Can't wait for next season as a manga reader all I can say with no spoilers is that Bakugou would be a big fan of the next arc.

The age of adulthood in Japan was 20 when the manga was written. It only recently (April of this year) was lowered to 18.
Meaning Aki could be around 18-19 years old in that pov scene at the start of the episode.
Himeno is still weird but the age difference between her and Aki wasnt as extreme as it was with her and Denji.

The ending is only known to us manga readers. The girl at the end there is only recognizable to us MR's since we know which arc is next and from their hair figure instantly. All I can tell ya is, prepare... for some Michael Bay action.

For anyone confused why ghost devil stopped choking aki and gave him the cigarette because ghosts usually are created by the lingering regret of people that past away terribly or those who still have unfinished business to do. Himeno said in the flashback that she will give the cigarette to aki when he's legal age. So basically ghost devil is just finishing himenos last wish which saved aki.

I rewatched the episode many times, but only now I realised why the ghost devil stopped choking Aki. Cus the ghost can’t see, it only realised it was Aki after touching him, obv Himeno formed a contract to give him this cigarette. It didn’t make sense why the ghost attacked Aki instead of giving him the cigar first, is it because Aki was shocked with fear that the devil’s first instinct was to attack? That’s my take on it
The meaning of Himeno's line in the flashback scene is a little different, with a slightly more gentle expression.
She never intends to make her partner an addict.
She was a person who discouraged minors from drinking and smoking, and knew that it was completely unacceptable to engage in sexual acts with minors.
However, she gets very drunk when she drinks.
Himeno said to Aki, "If you feel like you want to take a breather when you're stuck at work, I'll give you back the 'promised cigarette' again."
It was meant to be something that would give Aki peace of mind as she worked, an item that would separate her from work.
At that time, Himeno felt that it was very dangerous that Aki was only thinking about taking revenge on Aki's family.
