    Did you notice that your belt was not fitted properly in the first place. Check the belt that goes around the pulleys before you went to the mechanics and check it later after he mount it properly. :) Great video by the way.

      Yes, you’re right.
      I removed the belt without filming then put it back to take it to the electrician to fix the alternator and messed it up.
      Will check if the belt was like that before I messed with it.
      I remember even drawing how the thing goes thru all rollers. 😅

      Best option is to look at the alternator name plate and record the exact model.
      I used a small mirror to find it.
      Then google alternator name + brushes set.
      You’ll find them easy like that.
      They don’t look black like regular brushes but have bits of metal in them - look like copper.
      The dimensions are the most important.

    i had gasoline leaking (from a black rubber hose leading to the injector) and a shortly after, the battery signal was red, and the power steering stopped working.
    Is it possible that the leaking could have cause to alternator to fail? Or are those 2 incidents just a coincidence?
    other than that, everything is like your video. I'll fix the leaking first before starting my car to diagnose the alternator like you showed on the video. thank you

      @@uhneon8507 I had a broken fuse once in the battery case. You can't tell by looking at it.
      If there is continuity and even if you remove it carefully and it's still in one piece, it's not the fuse.
      Best is to check battery voltage while engine is running. If it doesn't reach 13-14V the alternator is your problem.
      They fixed it for me, brushes were cheap but it's not easy to open it without proper tools.
      Still drives great! never touched it since.

      You could try to get it repaired, brushes are usually the problem or bearings + brushes.
      Depends if it's not too expensive compared to new.

    Hello mate,
    Great educational video, thanks for that.
    Just quick question. I'm having almost same problem: In cold day started the car drove very little journey 3 mins, stopped in very at shop, then tried to start wouldn't start at all. Called breakdown Engineer, who came and jumpstarted the car, tested and turned out the alternator wasn't charging hence drained the Battery, but when he put rev up little higher something around 1500rmp or above and let it go on idle running it started charging. he told me there's intermittent alternator problem and left.
    I have tested since then few days with multi meter and every time before starting Battery read at 12.6v (which is perfect), when started and engine running 11.5-12.6v (wasn't charging) but I rev up and let it go starts charging at 13.5-14.2v.
    My question is: How do i identify where is the problem? Whether Alternator brushes or there's any cable connection problem such as break between battery and alternator?
    I'd like to avoid removing whole Alternator as I don't have much knowledge ( first timer) and tools, also in case problem is with cable or anything else.
    Any suggestion or advice much appreciated.
    Many thanks indeed and sorry for long comment.

      Farkhod Kh when its not charging, the battery dash warning shoud stay on.
      Without tools, you won’t fix it because it’s not gonna be just a loose cable.
      99% its the brushes,
      The alternator needs to be removed from the car to change those brushes.

    • @farkhodkh7926
      @farkhodkh7926 7 років тому

      Hi Dragos Ion,
      Thanks for your reply. The battery dash warning light doesn't come on at all. hence never knew there was a problem and ended up draining the battery initially.
      So 99% problem with brushed in Alternator? no cable issues?
      Thanks.

    • @IONHowTo
      @IONHowTo  7 років тому +2

      Battery light should come on when you turn on the engine and then turn off after 1-2 seconds unless the led light is burnt.
      Because it’s getting better after a while, its very very likely its the brushes or the voltage regulator on the alternator.
      The brushes are part of the vreg. circuit.
      Best is to take ot to an electrician and ask to check the brushes.
      The regulator might need to be changed but it shouldn’t cost a fortune.

    • @farkhodkh7926
      @farkhodkh7926 7 років тому

      Battery light never comes on even on turning the key on off, probably LED burnt. Will test and take to electrician.
      Didn't know brushes located in Vreg. which save some money rathen than changing whole Alternator.
      Thanks for info.

    • @IONHowTo
      @IONHowTo  7 років тому

      Changing the alternator is needed only if it doesn’t sping due to bad bearing problems. Or if the windings are damaged. Even then, the bearings can be replaced. The copper track where the brushes touch the rotor can also be replaced.

    My battery voltage drops to below 12.5v when all accessories are on. Also the power steering is very stiff and the warning light is on. Do you reckon the alternator is causing the power steering to drop out/go stiff?

    • @IONHowTo
      @IONHowTo  4 роки тому

      If the engine is on and voltage is under 13v I would have the alternator checked.
