I have been listening to Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush a lot lately. Mostly in my car on my way to work or on my way back home. It doesn't get any better. Great songs, great musicianship, great rhythms, great voice and his guitarplaying is out of this world. Fantastic artist, band.
Vince marino on rhythm guitar who rarely gets mentioned ever . First time I've got to see him shine here Hail Frank. Soo glad I was able to support him at shows and buying the DVD set
It must've been 1981, i was 14 yrs old. Seing Sir Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush playing this same set "Live At The Paradiso" in Amsterdam. (The Netherlands/Holland) AWESOME!

I saw Frank Marino in 1976 in Chicago at the Aragon Ballroom. I didn't even know who he was. We were all there to see Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow. It was a big day. There was the LA Jets, Heart, Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush, and Rainbow. In that order. Frank blew everybody away and I went out and bought a couple of his albums. Of course Blackmore is my favorite, but Frank is actually a better blues player, and a master of the guitar. Not only that but he is a great singer too. With Frank you get two for one.
I heard that stuff as a German at my local Radio-Station World Anthem Vinyl. As a Rock & Blues LP Collector I bought it the next day! Rainbow was my 2nd Live Concert I ever saw in Essen/Germany 1977 (1st has been Uriah Heep & Woody Woodmansey´s U-Boat in1976). I saw Zappa 1983 in Essen, Monsters of Rock andsoon. Beneath Iron Maiden, Saxon, Deep Purple I´ve heard lots of Progressive Stuff (got 10 James Gang Albums), like Tucky Buzzard, Bachdenkel, Pavlovs Dog... Jazz-Rock, played by myself in several unknown german Rockbands in Hagen NRW, but Frank is one of my alltime favourites...
I love a great Aragon story! That lineup sounds incredible. Great to read these accounts of seeing Frank live back in tha day. I was only 9 when this gig took place; a budding rock fan. I became aware of Marino and mahogany rush in the 80s by way of a live bootleg 8track. Hooked ever since. I saw so many up n coming bands at the Aragon....slayer, pearl jam, smashing pumpkins, Rage ATM, Chili Peps. Best venue ever.
@fastguitar I know people like Marty Friedman, Steve Stevens and Zakk Wylde have stated they were Frank Marino fans, and I can tell, but I was thinking the other day that EVH must have also been a fan.
I remember when I was about fifteen I think , and my best friend (and still close bud...) got to go to "Cal Jam''. I was grounded for ditching school. I can recall Dean banging on my front door the next day and when I opened it he was like looking at me as if I were a ghost. He kinda mumbled something like " I SAW GOD!" DEAN!!! I shouted! "You get some bad window pane at the show or what!? Then we went to the local record store and bought every album they had of this Italian guy with long hair, went home and changed the coarse of our lives. Witnessed the spectacle of this icon live at long beach 2 or 3 times along with other venues. And I still have never seen anybody ever leave an audience so awestruck! I remember When a song would end and theyd shine the house lights over the audience Id look behind me at thousands of faces, jaws wide opened they all looked like Dean at my door. It was a moving experience and spiritual at the same time. Wow! And even as I type this...World anthem in the background..I moved once again..Thank you Frank!
I saw them in 1977 ? In Waukegan, Illinois at the Waukegan Roller Rink !! They opened for Journey ( ha ha ) MAHOGONY RUSH ~ Flat leveled the place !!! Totally Awesome !!!!!!!!!!
Now Thats a concert!! How to give a crowd an exelent evening of guitar godliness thanks for putting todays so called rock bands in there place.Well below you
Jimi Hendrix, Frank Marino and Robin Trower.....Any Doubts about what VIRTUOSITY means, Watch and Crank this Video Concert up to 11....Frank Marino is, as always, INCREDIBLE!!!!.....If there is any doubt after seeing this video, listen to The Power of Rock and Roll by Frank Marino.....More guitar playing on that album than any other to this day just listen to it!!!!.....Frank Marino is in a GUITAR LEGEND!!!!!.....From 12:30 to 15:20 should make ANYONE a believer.....And again at 40:31on for about the next ten minutes....Incredible!!!!
aint dead yet is amazing. in an old interview in guitar player mag they asked him about eddie van halen and his finger tapping and he responded how he was finger tapping when eddie was still in diapers. along with trower and other guys like chastain(different genre obviously) but amazing when they play. sadly i have only seen marino 5 times and trower 6, but the shows were incredible. the 1st time i saw frank marino mahagony rush they were warming up for nugent in new haven in 78 or 79. funny how most were there for nugent, granted i am a huge nugent fan myself, older music nugent i should say. on a good day maybe nugent could keep up. nah, he can hold his own.
This cat showed me that mere mortals could play "All Along the Watchtower" so I sat down and figured it out...and I've been playing it for the last 40 years. Thanks Frank!
I was fortunate enough to have been exposed to Frank Moreno & mahogany rush at a very early age by a wonderful musician friend of mine John Gibbs . I'm ever so grateful to have been so blessed to have him still in my life and even after 30+years of listening to Frank he continues to ROCK MY WORLD. I was able to see frank Moreno n mahogany rush in the early 80's along with Uriah Heap at sunken gardens in San Antonio Texas it's by far is the best live show I've ever seen even though the San Antonio cops lined the stage & unfortunately ended the show early due to the overwhelming energy coming from the crowd. I must confess that EVERYONE was tripping on Acid Frank Moreno continued to play his rendition of Hendrix PURPLE HAZE through the riots that ensued. The crowd was having such a good time n those cops tried to ruin it. NO WAY COULD THEY . IT WAS THE BEST FREAKING SHOW EVER!!! THANK YOU FRANK FOR ROCKING MY WORLD FOR 33 OF MY 46 YEARS.
A friend of mine turned me on to Mahagony Rush back in late 70's n college. Then cpl yrs later he came to Lake Charles, La. Im sure I was the only black guy there(LOL) but he TORE the place down.....A Totally awesome show and my 1st rock concert. I've said this before but when it comes to music there is NO color. I've always liked rock, r&b, country, gospel, as long as it has guitar in it u got my attention., Would love to see him again live
These great artists are truly masters of their musical instruments and posses a deep and vivid understanding of music and art. I have seen Frank and his various band setups numerous times over these last 37 years. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for creating such powerful, spiritual and awesome music.
This is some of the best vintage live Frank on UA-cam. He's on fire and so is the band. At the 34:00 mark is 45 seconds of otherworldly electric guitar nirvana. If you like that sort of thing. This is 1979...SVR broke out in 1981.
Saw Frank Marino in Denver, it was about '78 . I took a couple of friends who had never heard of Mahogany Rush. it feels good to turn friends on to GREAT MUSIC. his version of back door man was historic.
Holy shit....... this is an amazing performance I was lucky enough to see him back and 78 or 79 on the power of rock and roll tour. He opened for Blue Oyster Cult. There is no way in hell you can harness his energy from a live show and put it on an album. I knew that he was intense back then the watching it now after seeing everybody from vai and Joe Satriani makes my head fucking spin. Absolutely amazing.
I first bought Maroon around 1974, and loved it. Football practice made me miss his first concert, but my buddies raved about it. I went to next concert and they were with Heart. Standing in line, my best friend said: That's Frank Marino". Sure enough, it was Frank in a station wagon. That got me worried, but since that show, Frank is my favorite. Fought through highschool, but years later, Zakk Wyled and Vinnie Moore made arguments hold up much better. Saw him six times, and six cancels. The worst when stayed overnight in Indiana when he played with Angel. As they were setting up, it was cancelled. A girl in back of me commented, I thought you were going to cry. Saw Frank after that, and he was magic. There was one night, much like this performance, he was just off the charts. Tell me Eddie V never saw him in concert.
Wen I saw is second show with mahogany rush in 1972.i think he was 17 or 18yrs old he used the one main fender amp and two secondary fender bandmasters amps as e.q.boosters and running 4 15inch altecs and 6 jb lansings in a highschool cafeteria, after the show everybody had there jaw locked wide open in disbelief has what has just happened. Birth of a guitar god
I saw him about 6 or 7 years ago at a little blues bar here in Phoenix. He still has it man. I walked up to him a few times (it was a SMALL place) and kept bugging him to play Try For Freedom. He shooed me away and said "Yeah, i will." By the time he started to play it, i was hammered, but i distinctly remember him just looking at me and smiling.
Hands down, my favorite band. And I'm a serious music collector. Saw Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush twice back in the 70s and they were great both times. Frank's at the top of his game in this clip. This is real Rock 'n' Roll, Folks! THANKS FOR POSTING!
Love you Frank! You gave all of us young punks ideas of becoming a rock star some day because you were such a great one! Watchtower was fantastic... wherever you are now I hope you're still rocking it out on your SG!
I'm A King Bee/Backdoor Man!!! Boys and Girls who play guitar today, thats how it's done! If you don't appreciate that, then you're dead!! Great Great Band!!
I agree that he is so underrated. I would put him in the top 20 if not the top 10 of all time guitarists. Thanks Frank for all of your awesome music and guitar playing. I pray your shoulder gets well. God bless you and your family.
As great as Frank Marino was in this amazing era of Progressive Rock. He's that much better now. Excellent songwriter, gifted guitarist. Mahogany Rush is a torpedo to the heart of the listener. Thank you for posting. Peace
saw him in three rivers quebec ....in 1972 or 73 ?? when he started to be popular just 200 or 300 people he was ahead of his time still a big fan ..he played at my high school not long after that and he broke a string ,,never stop playing while he changed it and tuned his guitar at the same time .... anybody have a video of him playing the american national hymn???? good stuff never dies
He looks a bit like a cross between Zappa and Phil Negron from 3 Dog Night, chews gum like Lennon, sounds like Hendrix and has his hair blown back like Beyonce'. This is a real period video and it takes me back there. The sound is very good considering how old it is. Thanks for posting this. Marino is something of a lost guy from back then because of the Hendrix vibe. A very talented player. His brother isn;t so bad, either.
Frank Marino is a classic 70s player good enough for all time. I agree about his brother Vince. I actually think that Vince could finish a show for Frank, if it was necessary.
Definitely a gifted guitarist . Saw him in concert in a small club in Jersey and it was a mind blowing experience. So intense , so much great rock and roll music...
I see UA-cam guitarists from 10 years old on up that can play like all today's pros. They can emulate everybody's technique no matter how complex and even invent their own. Haven't seen one who plays like Frank Marino did 40-45 years ago. No doubt Jimi would have stood in awe if he was at Belmont that night.
In 1979 I went to Bismarck, ND to see Ted Nugent. I had never heard of Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush as they opened the show. Have been fan ever since. And, I agree, Marino is very under rated in the guitar slinging world!
This show begs for Frank's remastering touch......it's easily one of his best performances out there. Not sure what hoops he'd have to jump through to make it happen, but i know that i would be 1st in line to buy it. If the original telecast is still in good shape, it's a damn shame not to preserve and pass this along.....so many appreciate Frank's legacy and talent and this is testament to just how good he's been for so long. C'mon Frank.......please!!!!
Frank, you were and still are one of my biggest influences,I used so many of your riffs over these 42 years. Huge impact of the way I setup my sound, anyway just so so much... This was a great old video upload, Thanks to who did it...
My dad purchased me a copy of Double Live some years ago. I ended up putting it in my alarm clock and waking up to it, which was a mistake because it's really good but I learned whatever you wake up to in the morning for a long enough period of time is something you never wanna play again. Fast forward some years into the future, and picked up the CD, and then Frank Marino's other work, and he's quickly became one of my all time favorite guitarists. Great singer and songwriter, fantastic player and fantastic tone - plus if he doesn't make the Gibson SG look cool well who does?
I was at one of the shows recorded for his live album. I wore out a couple of 8 tracks, a cassette, a couple of vinyls and now play on Spotify. Beautiful man on stage.
Believe it or not I saw him 1975 opening for Queen, of all bands, at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC. Still remember the feedback from his guitar bouncing off the back wall of the Hall.
Most underrated guitarrist of the history. You´re the man Frank.
Yes he is Love Frank Marino

Hands down, my favorite band. And I'm a serious music collector. Saw Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush twice back in the 70s and they were great both times. Frank's at the top of his game in this clip. This is real Rock 'n' Roll, Folks! THANKS FOR POSTING!
+Gregory M. Vinci Very welcome!
The tone and sounds he pulls out of a guitar is just mind-blowing, once you hear it you will always remember what Frank Marino sounds like!
Imagine this, he used Acoustic(brand) amps full electronic no tubes! He's my hero!
One of the best live guitar experiences ever!💪🏾👏🏾🔥🤘🏾👌🏾🤯💪🏾🔥👏🏾👏🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾
How is this possible...the way Frank plays.
Hi Russ, Gus here. I still listen to this show forever...!!!!!!!!!!
I agree that he is so underrated. I would put him in the top 20 if not the top 10 of all time guitarists. Thanks Frank for all of your awesome music and guitar playing. I pray your shoulder gets well. God bless you and your family.
More like the top 5 😮
Saw Frank a few times back then.,......always.... Kicked ass!
Music Today is just not the Same. Long Live Frank Marino...
Love Frank. Living in the UK I never got to see him play live. Though he did play here a couple of times.
This Guy is a Bad Ass Rocker!
Wow! Vince Marino! I didn't realize he was that good.
My talented ears brought me here, my soul keeps me here. Awesome concert!
vastly underrated is frank for some reason
I agree, Yoda!
Watched Frank and Mahogany Rush in Bismarck, ND in 1979. Been a fan ever since. Excellent guitarist!
As great as Frank Marino was in this amazing era of Progressive Rock. He's that much better now. Excellent songwriter, gifted guitarist. Mahogany Rush is a torpedo to the heart of the listener. Thank you for posting. Peace
Yes, kiss the ring. I saw Frank Marino/Mahogany Rush in the '70's.
Such a bad ass!!!! Saw this tour in Chicago
Damn! I'm surprised! They played the life itself! Amen!
Man this is REAL MUSIC!
BRING IT BACK! BRING IT BACK!
saw him in three rivers quebec ....in 1972 or 73 ?? when he started to be popular just 200 or 300 people he was ahead of his time still a big fan ..he played at my high school not long after that and he broke a string ,,never stop playing while he changed it and tuned his guitar at the same time .... anybody have a video of him playing the american national hymn???? good stuff never dies
I had the Quadrophonic 8track tape..my cousin had a Zenith Quadrophonic Am Fm 8tr turntable stereo..wow man😎😎
Been sort of rediscovering Frank Marino recently as I had almost forgotten this one of my heroes from back in the day. Unforgiveable, actually...
+DrRussPhd Beyonce, LOL
Thanks for posting, saw Mohagany Rush in Louisville,Ky late 70,s radio station LRS102 had concert promotion $1.02 per ticket, Money well spent
One of the sickest guitarist's we've ever had the pleasure of listening to. Incredible technique! My personal favorite along with my main man Jimi.
Wish I could get a Clean Video of this !!!!!!!!!!!! The Man !
Saw Frank steal the Day on the Green show in the Oakland Stadium this same year;....Frank kicks major ass hear also.......
Frank never failed to amaze......and watch recent stuff....still delivering the goods....hope to see him again
totally underrated. it´s so good :)
This guy never disappoints; just bending that guitar to his will. Fire!
Frank, you were and still are one of my biggest influences,I used so many of your riffs over these 42 years. Huge impact of the way I setup my sound, anyway just so so much... This was a great old video upload, Thanks to who did it...
I've never heard an SG sound so good..thanx linda for the ear candy.....yum!
He's absolutely very talented 👏 I been following him since I first heard him in 1979 He's great thank's Frank for entertaining me 👍
Great stuff Frank! Absolutely the most talented guitarist!
I was at the second show in Orlando for the recording of the first live album.
Thank you for posting this!!! Frank is by far one of my favs...definitely underrated and overlooked....he and Pat Travers....love this thanks again!
This guy is freaking Awesome!
Love the riff for King Bee.
And...Fuck it! Now I feel like growing a 'stache!
Dragonfly is funky fire!
Ah, this brought back memories of my college days. Nice.
In 74' this was the guitar hero to me! Totally inspired me to play, king bee my all time favorite, strange universe next.
Thomas McGary Strange Universe! Many a joint was lit up to that song in my college days!
Believe it or not I saw him 1975 opening for Queen, of all bands, at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC. Still remember the feedback from his guitar bouncing off the back wall of the Hall.
