    Just spotted the ‘what do we do now’ line in The Spiderwick Chronicles! Made me really think, the older, more mature sister wielding a sword turns to her much younger and no more knowledgeable brother and asked ‘what do we do now’ ...paused the film and quickly showed my girls this speech just to highlight how crazy the line is and how it’s just thrown in for no relevant reason!

    This is what we need more of! I see so many women just complaining about the problems of gender inequality and not offering solutions, almost as if they expect men to be in charge of "making" women equal in society. It's so good to see someone like Reese Witherspoon actually stepping up and starting her own company. Furthermore, I'm glad to see an intelligent person actually using capitalism and free markets as a solution. So often these days, people buy into the mythology that doing the wrong thing gets you rich, and "good" people forgo profits and do what is moral. The truth is that doing the right thing can be and often is profitable. Bravo.

    It was a beautiful and welcomed speak, but the mean line sounded to me like it all about money and power, aren't it? How about the women that don't have money to imagine beyond? Or the women that go out to practice your words, without the proper preparation, and loose everything? What about the women that can't simple be their self and do what they want to do, even if what they want is just take care of her family? Be women is not easier than be a men, all of us know that, but only beautiful words can't change the world. How about you get some part of your successful business, merge it with your beautiful words, and start to help another women around you with real actions? Does that sound good? If so, count on me.

    "You know any woman in any crisis situation...?" Personal experience: almost any one I have had a relationship with. Easy. There is nothing embarrassing as a human being to ask what to do to someone when dealing with a crisis.

    • @Eva-bd2rm
      @Eva-bd2rm 5 років тому +24

      Hi Iñaki, that's not the point...she's not saying that it is always a bad thing to ask what to do when in a crisis, just that women are misrepresented in a huge percentage of films as being clueless in any crisis, which is not only unrealistic, but also a harmful message to spread.

      @@ItsKenyangirlAbby Look like I hit a spot there. There is a reason it's a meme. Memes imitate real life. That "female power" propaganda is more harmful than it does good. You aliante women and put pressure on them to be successful when many don't want to. This is not a "woman can do anything" message, it's a "women MUST do or else". I roll my eyes everytime at "men must be this" "men must do that" like, fuck no. We don't need to do anything anyone else says.

  • @HaveButOneLife
    @HaveButOneLife 4 роки тому +3

    I think I can get behind this, even though I don't get the point in her creating exclusively women main character shows and how "forcing" things benefits anyone. The thing is that's contrary to that point, there's nothing in this that proves to me that she's trying to belittle men in any way, only that she feels wronged in the industry and she's tired of weak female tropes.
    I'd be more inclined to criticize this if she attacked men and wanted women to be unrealistic Mary Sue type characters. I gotta give her credit for having the courage to go up there and tell the industry how she feels, despite whatever small criticism I have, I'm not going to deter people from making the art that they want to make, and there was a lot of truth to the point she made about women being the kind of people who'd get others out of crisis situations.

    Yes, I have had girlfriends who looked at me and said "What do we do now?" when in a crisis. And I've have other girlfriends who didn't ask that and I've had girlfriends who didn't ask that and did the wrong thing and girlfriends who did the right thing and everything in between. Not all women are strong, weak, stupid, smart. In fact, like men, most are some where in the middle of all that. I really hate the sentence "We need a strong ... character" or placing a character in a story that makes no sense. I don't know what she's talking about since she gave no names of movies, but I mostly watch black and white movies, Cary Grant and James Stewart my two fav actors, Grace Kelly and Eva Marie Saint my fav actresses. And there is none of that crap they talk about in old movies that the woman isn't strong or whatever. Like in real life they are some times strong, some times weak. People harp on the weak parts because of some odd feminist view that all women are tigresses and above being human or real. It's the pit fall of that type of feminism. I'm for the type of feminism that is just women can pick and choose lifestyle ie who to vote for, who to marry, what career they want, etc. . That's sorta where it should end. They shouldn't be coddled like infants who can break over words and they shouldn't be treated as super humans. They are people, some suck, some are cool, some are dumb, some are smart, some are weak during this moment and some are strong during this moment.

They fought and many have died for their women and children! I have 2 sons and 1 daughter! My sons are just as special and smart as my daughter! My daughter talks about wanting to find her Prince Charming be a mom. My son wants to be a solider and cop! Women can’t take direction and don’t listen to anyone! Sorry but it’s true! But what I don’t appreciate is how little boys aren’t being acknowledged as well. Men being bashed all because they chose to get ahead in life and join our military or founded a country.. Our men. Past and present are the reason why this country is still thriving. There would be no USA if it weren’t for men!! Men of all race who worked their asses off contributing to this country deserve respect and our little boys deserve to be taught that it’s ok to go after your dreams as well! Women have every right to pursue any career they wish to do. I believe in independence. I am a independent woman. I don’t however believe in bashing men. These days you see and hear a lot of it!
