- Tool Live. Lewiston, Me. 1998. Full Concert. Remastered.
Central Maine Civic Center, Lewiston, ME.
July 8th, 1998.
While this version has reduced distortion, it's still brickwalled, sorry about that, no other audio source exists. You'll get used to the sound. But it does have some really intense close ups, particularly on Maynard.

the climax on Pushit gives me eye-watering chills ... every time, without fail
gibbyjack yessir!
gibbyjack it's so fucking real. Watching this video gave me a whole new appreciation for "Push it". The entire band really brings to the surface what this song is about, and Maynard's intensity at the climax is legend.
Pushit is one of my favorites by them and the version from this show is too fuckin real!
Indeed bro, so intense
Favorite part
The way Maynard moves is like one of their clay-mation puppets in their videos. Amazing
its like a marionette brought to life but still controlled by strings lol its so trippy and weird to watch him
Oh man I missed Tool at Gov's ball and started pining for this concert. I love the internet. I was lucky enough to be at this show. It was one of the best shows I have ever seen.
For context, this was at what is now the Lewiston Colisée, then the Central Maine Civic Center. Even in its current renovated form, this is still nothing more than a high school ice hockey arena. Back then it was even rougher. That summer 2 huge acts played: Green Day and Tool. It is hard to describe what it was like for kids in Central Maine to have 2 of the biggest acts in the world come and play in fucking LEWISTON. At the fucking ice arena. The only good thing about Lewiston was the head shop, which is walking distance from the arena. And here they were. The energy in the parking lot was unreal. I have been to a lot of shows, a lot of big shows, a lot of important shows, but I have never been in a crowd that was so genuinely enthralled to see an act. I've been to shows at MSG and the crowd is just so entitled. Of course they are getting a good act - it is MSG. But we were all so grateful that we didn't have to drive to MA and buy tickets for Ozfest just to watch Tool do a 45 minute set.
The doors opened on time and the band came out on time, so there was nothing but positive energy. The place absolutely lost its shit when they came out. What you can't see is the crowd. It is a very small venue. I think there were probably 3-5k people there, if that. The bleachers were full (which is where this video was taken from), but the ice rink itself was a giant mosh pit. My buddy and I made it up about 5 rows back and it was unreal. It was one of the most intense experiences I've ever had, but it wasn't a normal mosh pit. It was not really violent. It was more like we all just needed to move like Maynard. He had us absolutely wrapped around his fingers and he was moving us like puppets. By the climax of Aenima it felt like we were shaking the bedrock.
This was a hot, humid, July night (yes it gets hot in Maine). And I do not think there was AC in that building at the time. It was REALLY fucking hot. It was only a matter of time before that wig came off. Everyone was soaked. Maynard in his underwear was the only way he was getting through this show. My buddy was asthmatic and stayed in the bleachers right around where this was shot, and even he was soaked to the bone at the end of the show.
I was a percussionist growing up and in a cover band in high school that played the more complex alternative bands like Radiohead, RATM, Tool, etc. Aenima was one of the only albums I owned in high school and I listened to it incessantly, trying to follow the time signature changes and perfect Danny's rudiments. This stuff is so complex.
Watching these guys effortlessly create this music was transcendental. These guys are so powerful. When it was over it honestly felt post-psychedelic. Like we had all just shared an incredible trip. Everyone walking out of there was so happy and they all seemed transformed. I have met people later in life and very, very far from Lewiston, Maine who also went to this concert and they had the same experience.
Thank you for uploading this and all your work. Thank you.
Dude. You summed up this show and the vibe perfectly. I can't believe video of this exists! I was there too!! Epic.
Everyone booed the Melvins. Poor Melvins. I wasn't able to appreciate them until many year later. Amazing experience all the same. Twas an event for us fans that never thought we'd get a chance. And to get this on VHS years after. Now the world gets to see what only a few thousand witnessed that night in July in our back yard. Maynard only got sexy for Lewiston, Good times!
I missed this show in Lewiston I saw Coal Chamber and Mega death that year I think. I wish I saw Tool instead.
No nvm I saw MD n CC in 96 I guess or 97
Nailed it
36:50 I love this part, everytime crying…
Crying??? Why?? Stop....Stop....get a hold of your emo self
I'm just here for 55:08
Cameron Guarino hhhhhh
I never imagined my favorite artist would be a guy in a bra
A bald guy in a bra with face paint on that moves around like a Alien and sometimes wear a wig.
I can't imagine what my 13 year old self would think if I were to tell him that this is the description of one of my favorite artist at one of his peak moments
first time for everything :)
I see you just recently discovered, Tool
He used to crossdress since after he got down with his university studies and starting singing for bands before Tool, as far back as the late 80's.
lol me either.
This is the arena I grew up playing hockey in. The historic CMCC. I was 11 years old and had no idea who tool was. I snuck in the zamboni door out back and watched this from the rafters by the pressbox. Absolutely blew me away, and I've been stuck down this rabbit hole ever since. So happy this video exists
That's so awesome.....and lewiston seemed better back in these days to cool story though
This is also the very same arena the famous fight between Ali and Liston took place where the infamous "phantom punch" happened.
Fellow Lewiston-ite.
ETA: I was at this concert.
That is the sickest backstory I have ever fucking heard
Your childhood was worth having
25:44 - 26:14 - Ever wondered what it would feel like for Maynard to serenade you? There you go.
I've heard a lot of people complain about "Maynard cam", but this is one of those performances where you may as well leave the damn thing on him, because he was off his ASS in this show! Good God what a performance.
15/10. Excellence!
It's as if he said fuck it... Then proceeded to take the red pill and the blue pill...
+ThePaulweezy6 red & blue together make purple, the color of royalty, Ultraviolet radiation &... Sonoma Cty. Wine. Zing!
+Prana Khan
The color of the third eye as well. @:D
Maynard is not on drugs guys!
Maybe not now
They played the balls off "tell me what you want, what you really really want"
i wanna be a lover
This was my first Tool show. I had waited years, and then they came to little old Lewiston. I literally walked there. Nobody else had a ticket in my group of friends, I said fuck it, I'll go alone, and I did...Oh my GOD what a show!! And to find this?!?! My God, unreal. The vocals are great, the music, on point...And I was there, fantastic memories.
I was at this show too, first Tool concert, was amazing, I was like 2 people back in front of Maynard.
Was stoked to find this
One hell of a first show buddy!! This is one of my favorite shows during this era. And RIP to all the people who died a few days ago during the mass shooting. Terrible man..
First show also. Was watching Vocalist review Tool and wondered if this was still on youtube
Damn, wished I lived at Lewiston at the time. This is Maynard at his best!
Maynard is the goat 🐐
The vocal style of Pushit really provides insight into Maynards headspace going into that first A Perfect Circle album.

5:25 Hush
Maynard needs to bring the drag back.
Not nowadays. I'd rather not see a chubby old guy in a bra screaming on stage.
I approve.
00:30 - MAAAAAAAAAAINEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.
Pushit was so fucking beautiful
55:19 is nobody gonna talk about about the fact that maynard is showing off his...parts?
Oh we know
That was a pretty reg occurrence back then.
@@libra11426 nice
Now that you mention it, that seemed pretty intentional indeed.
I have a dream.. when Tool make a real DVD! and a new album too.
+Vinicius Britto and a making of documentary for the new album!!!!!
+BrandonofRedemption yus
A hell of a dream btw
Dreams can change, right?? now i just want to see them live once in my life!
Fuck blu ray....VHS would be better
Danny is an absolute BEAST! Holy shit, he was already amazing then, and still manage to improve, what a legend
Amazing innit?
I’m kind of wondering if he is human or not? He moves so damn fast and he’s so damn agile.
@@mikeg3644 They get possessed
This was the concert where the live version of third eye was recorded for Salival. There are videos and n YT that sync it up with this video footage. Greatest thing of all time.
10:23 yeah Danny you play that percussion off Maynards wig
😂😂
Happy 18th Anniversary! This was my very first Tool show.
Jarod Taylor Mine too!
That awkward moment when you find out you were being born at the same time this concert was going on.
Happy belated birthday!
Maybe not as awkward if you were conceived after this concert?
My dad went to see tool after I was born
Spiral out
That awkward moment when I realize I was born 20 year before this concert.... And Tool has been with me for well over half my life.
21:53 is such a badass moment
55:10 ....chills every time
1:07:48 till the end of Sober... what a epic moment of professional rage in sync!
That moment doesn't get nearly enough credit for the intensity. It totally changes the end of the song
23 years ago. Feels like yesterday. Enjoy your youth. Have fun. Be reckless, but stay away from Kardashians.
Ah, yes, here's the Maynard that terrified me as a child.
This is the venue in Lewiston, Maine, where Ali knocked out Liston in their rematch in 1965, the famous "phantom punch," with Ali standing over the fallen Liston screaming at him to get up, voted by Sports Illustrated as the greatest sports photo of the twentieth century.
The more you know 🌈
For real? I saw many shows in that building.
My God he has a fucking set of lungs in him! The way he projects his voice is so primal clean and full of so much emotion I half expect him to explode implode or fly apart due to the amount of force he put forth in his performance and delivery. I want to see this band so damn bad!! Please, Lord, wash away this damn virus so they can hold concerts once more I NEED SOME LIVE MUSIC SO BADLY. A rock and roll prayer for sure!!!
Vocal fry
Best song performance EVER @ 44:11 💗 The most gorgeous vocals!
Killer footage of Maynard and all of Tool. Damn Justin was ripped 😮
looks really skinny to me
Maynard is kinda buff
@@Vastilious he is now
@@Vastilious must be due to jujitsu
Thank you for sharing this gem.
Good stuff, thanks!
I remember being there. Thanks for uploading this!
first tool shoe for me! first ever sold out in lewiston maine. brings me back, thank you.
This was so kickass! Ahhh! The sweet memories of this set list! Great footage!
Thank you for uploading. No other band gets me this rock solid hard
Went to this then saw them at Ozzfest the next day in MA. Best 2 days. Seeing them a few years ago in Bangor was not the same. Was lucky to see them 5 or 6 times back in the day. You definitely can't go back again.
Funny I was at all three of those shows too. So happy to have that Lewiston show under my belt. The ride home sucked and I slept on the lawn the next day until tool came on stage lol. Going tonight in Boston
It seems like I’ve been here before and it seems so familiar and now it seems like I’m slipping into a dream within a dream
This is my favourite live concert of all time
i can not express the gratitude for posting this video. i am blessed to be able to say i was 20 feet from center stage at the show and it was a life changing experience. the rendition of pushit was the first anyone had heard it and with 3rd eye were the stand outs. what am i saying, its tool. everything stands out. in tears with nostalgia, thank you so much for the tsunami of memories :D
amazing! Thank you
This was my 1st tool show as well. I knew very little about them and to say I was blown away is a massive understatement! This guy from central Maine had no idea what was in store for the evening...
Perfection. Absolute perfection.
My 1st&Only Tool Concert ! Thank-you so much or this upload ! didn't understand it when it was happening to me ; until later when it made complete sense in a different light. I cannot say Thank-you enough ; I only wish my appreciation gives you more time in this brief existence.
Best performance ever experienced, I've watched this video dozens of times, thru every chapter of life, and it remains, best video ever created! Thank you! This song is called.... I can say what I want to....
This performance is magnificent...
Well I was 5 when this show happened. First tool show I went to I was 16. Just saw them again a couple weeks ago and it was unreal. They played third eye and it was life changing.
THIS SET IS FUCKING BEAUTIFUL. THANK YOU.
goddamn the album version of stinkfist gives me chills but the live version... does my happiness mean anything to me
I was there during a summer road trip through New England and Quebec me and two other friends took after graduating high school. It was my third Tool show. I remember how special of a show we thought it was while it was happening. Then Salival came out and made us reflect even more on that show and now how fortunate we are to have it on UA-cam. Not sure they played a smaller place after. What a memory!
I was at this show...just as amazing as I remember it.
My dad went to this concert.
dam u got a cool dade
Klause Steinworth My first and only (so far) Tool show.
Your dad is awesome. I was at this concert too!!
Klause Steinworth same my dad did too bro
Rock your dad
Really a great show, I have been thoroughly enjoyed watching this. I love them so much!! Thanks for sharing it!!!💜💜💜
Also I just love the way Maynard moves his body. This band saved my life and I love his dancing. Kinda reminds me of elaine on the Jerry Seinfeld show lol love you so much Maynard!!!
i remember when aenima was coming out, it was then like a portal to another dimension and it still is today!! every time when i listen to it and that's still alot! best Tool album, go loose yourself..!
i love that they played their hearts out. in Maine!!! of all places.
Jeez, Danny was an absolute rock God over 20 years ago. The peak of 46 & 2 is bone chilling.
The best I've ever heard Maynard
Santa Cruz 94 is pretty epic. I keep going back to it.
This is one of the best ever.
Holy hell this is outrageous.
I just imagined how fucking magical it must feel for Justin to hear the roar of the crowd when he starts playing the intro to 46&2
This set list is perfect!
I'm waking up to this beauty.
Take me back to this moment. 1st concert ever and such a good show. Was somewhere close to the front for the whole show
I was there to bud....
This was a great show. Tool & the Melvin's!
Best pushit ever
Hell yeah great concert live
GOAT concert
This must be the best concert I've never been to.
One of the best shows I’ve seen. My friends played hockey there.
Pushit is best in this show
Holy. Fuckin. Shit. I saw them that year in Houston this is one of my go to vids when on an "early" Tool bender. Their shit is just timeless and only gets better. Raw ugly gentle crushing and so damn beautiful. No band before since or after will ever touch these guys.
Aenema aged well to say the least in every single way and context it has stayed purely relevant and at the driving edge of society's greatest concerns
Pushit has always been my favorite song off Aenima, but this version is just amazing... wow.
llamaoffspring best version unreal
that and 3rd eye are legendary performances
Fucking awesome. Thanks ToolArchive :]
The breakdown in swamp song where he screams "no one told you to come" gives me the most overwhelming chills ever it's like an orgasm.
Are you saying you...came when no one told you to?
EinSophistry you're god damn right I did. its Maynard's fault not mine.
I mean, he does have some great tits.
EinSophistry they're pretty damn perky, just kinda look ya right in the eyes.
Zane Harper Saw them play it in Philly last month!!
2021 and still watching this every single day just about.
I was at this show.... It was amazing and in a hockey arena where the worst seats are practically the front seats in a major city.
21:50 Maynard grooving ❤
amazing band
Goal of life: dance like this 19:48
I was at this show! One of the best I've been to.
rakrakrakrak Me too!
1:24:30
Adam: What the hell is going on there?
Maynard:
pushit. incredible... goddamn
You bettah WERK, Mr Keenan!
1:18:49 The professionalism. Watch Maynard address a clearly distracting and painful in-ear monitor situation and then immediately submerge back into the indescribable reality of singing for tool live in 1998 apexing moment of flood. I'm so proud of him. He makes me proud. Maynard is a good boy. He did that after being Maynard live for an hour and 20 minutes straight. That s*** must be extra dimensional and exhausting
I love the Tool group
I got out of work early at the bottle redemption store to see this show when I was 17. They came and hung out at the local record store and got on well with a bunch of my friends who were around before this show happened. Apparently they really liked the authenticity of the people they encountered in Lewiston. Maynard cited Lewiston as a favorite place to play in an interview a couple years later. I think this might also be why he came out dressed to the nines and really fucking sent it for us. And probably also because we loved Melvins as the opener. Tool know if their audiences are cool before they play. Based on how the openers are treated.
I was there!!
If I could go back in time I would definitely go to this day .
as good as this was...the show at Red Rocks, a few weeks later - was in a whole other realm.
Go to that one, instead....or, too.
Mainnnnnnneeeeeee!!!
Danny Carey losing his stick and grabbing another one at 1:11:51 was so fluid it seemed intentional.
I hope they secretly recorded a bunch of their concerts and release the video with their new album.
WeenieHutJR I just hope they release their new album
@@edanbarbarajane Only 9 days to go, brother
@@lucassilvadedeus hell yeah brother!
I come from the future, the album is called Fear Inoculum and it is everything you expected it to be - minus the you
I did not go to this concert but I've seen Tool in Portland and Augusta Maine. They always put on a great show here and it seems Maynard likes it in Maine. Very vocal to the crowd and animated
Damn. I was barely 5 months old when this happened.
I was almost 3 months old lol. Class of 2015! Haha
I was here!
I actually remember going to this show
Jason Bushey Me too!
I was there, with a free ticket!!!!!
The Melvin's pissed off slot of people that night 😂 so.much.feedback.
They used Third Eye from this performance for the Tool Salival - Live Album 🤟
I thought it was the Salt Lake City performance
best concert ever, shame that the quality is not super..
What a voice he had...
Ticks and leeches live ruined it. Sad. He still sounds pretty good for his age and vocal cord damage/hardening.
