I'm not earning one shiny nickle by saying this, If I had to buy a laptop these days, this model seems like a decent option. Don't get me wrong, "gaming" laptops are a joke next to their desktop counterparts, but I'll always buy a mid-spec "gaming" laptop only for the thermals, even though I wouldn't game in the thing for all the money in the World. I've owned cheap laptops, expensive laptops, and before I bought "gaming" laptops, what always killed them was the HEAT. Laptops are NOT for gaming, but if you need a reliable laptop that won't freaking die on you after a BIOS update - true story -, buy a $1,100 laptop instead of a $700 POS that's going to leave you stranded when you need it most. If you just want peace of mind, a mid-specced "gaming" laptop such as this will last for 5+ years, whereas a cheaper or thinner one will kick the bucket much sooner.
I just had a Acer predator Helios neo 16 die on me 2 days in from a bios and windows update ..spent one grand on this POS... I need portability since I game other places than home ...maybe one of these would be better.
For basic editing, the panel here is fine, but I wouldn't do any color-critical work without a properly calibrated external monitor. This is likely a cost-cutting measure as mid/high-refresh, color-accurate laptop panels do exist, though they would certainly drive prices up.

Got one and returned it the same day. Would not connect to WiFi, after reinstalling the WiFi Driver, the and installing the intel “WiFi Driver” card. Should’ve lost hope that while setting up it also lost WiFi connection. Terrible.
I am confused between predator helios neo 16 and omen 16 as brightness is low for my taste which is a deal breaker I wanna get strong gaming laptop for university and gaming.
@@mahmoudshehata2001 I went with the predator helios neo 16 and it was the perfect decision for me actually. Has excellent power if I run it it even saver mode it gives 5 hours backup and trust me brightness is not low its really good overall a very good decision I made.
I have the Ryzen version and am having trouble figuring out if I should use the hdmi or one of the usb c ports with dp. Also would it matter which of the the usb c ports I use? Think I saw Jarrod mention that sometimes one port connects directly to the dgpu while the other goes through the integrated. Thanks so much for any help!
Sir, personally i always prefer gaming on at least 98% dcip3 colour gamut display. I never suggest anyone to play on 100% srgb as it looks washed out and undersaturated. Over 98% dcip3 displays are good for gaming. I also prefer glossy finish. Matt finish ruins picture quality.
That's not how color gamut works. 100% sRGB is ideal for gaming because games run in the sRGB color space. A 125% sRGB color space would actually oversaturate the sRGB content that you're viewing but would be ideal for working in the DCI P3 color space.

This is the worst service I ever faced. This is the worst laptop I ever bought - Omen 16. I already sent my laptop to the service 3 times, from 8 month owning the laptop, 1,5 it spent in service trips and 3 weeks was not functional due to different issues. At first they changed videocard from 4070 to 4070, than bluetooth stopped working, than wifi and sudden turns off. Just never again.
Got this on sale for $1100 at best buy, mine came with an AMD 7940HS and 4070. For that price alone it is worth it, not sure I would pay the full retail price for it as you may find better options like one with a better display or a laptop with less fan noise because this thing gets loud. However fan noise doesn't bother me and I am very happy with my purchase, It is a great laptop.
Been using Legion for 5 years, was thinking of buying another legion but the design, the value for money isn't what it used to be. this seems like a better laptop.
This laptop is great to get work done, it's much better than other hp laptops for that purpose. And it doesn't look like a gaming laptop actually. I would like to buy an amd version of this one, many thanks for the review.
How do you upgrade the ssd 512gb isn’t enough , does it accept a dual sided 4tb ? How do you clone the 512gb it’s only thing holding me back from getting it
Nice gaming laptop. Camera is good. Like the easy access to the inside and also the ability to upgrade ssd, memory and wifi if necessary. Internal layout very similar to the HP Victus I got at Costco. The one thing the Victus has is an additional slot for a second ssd. Keyboard is good although they should have included a full size numpad like on the Victus one of the main reasons I purchased the Victus. I use it for occasional gaming but mainly for Excel and other Office software. By the way Costco is selling the Victus for $300 dollars off this month. I guess at the end of the day it is each to their own. Great review.
It is interesting for HP to release different variants for different markets. The OMEN 16 2023 international variant (called OMEN 9) has a full size numpad, and an extra SSD slot.
Interesting. So low brightness, no IR camera, no SD card reader. Hmmmm…Would be really cool if you’d take a look at the Sony Inzone gaming products. And also connectivity between Xbox Series X and handheld gaming consoles, laptops.

Both in similar range of prices. It's gonna be used mainly for professional work (editing videos and photos, motion graphics and 3D) I would really apreciate some advice here

There are some critical negatives to this laptop from HP in my opinion such as the low 299 nits brightness and the 16:9 display ratio. Other than this, it seems to be a fairly good laptop with great 1080p webcam and clear internal mic array. Port selection is also not bad. Audio from the internal speakers is good for a Windows PC.
