Wouldn't say it's the mid 90's as they have a brushless version of this heh, can still buy them new as well.
At least in Sweden here as old stock for 1395 sek or 112£ for the brushed one with 2.4 ghz radio.
Been out since around 2007 or 2008 before updating with the new name & better 2.4 ghz radiogear like 2009 or 2010 if i remember correctly.
They used too be called the Thundertiger AT-10 EB and ES for the stadium truck until 2006 - 2007 i think before changing too phoenix name wise.
MRP also sold it as the Ripper St if you are familiar with that one.
Though it's basically an updated design from 1997, a slightly cheaper version of the Team associated b3 & t3 that they kept in production & some screws became metric hardware while some screws are still identical too the B3 & T3 so you can use the team associated b3 team manual too do maintenance on this buggy easily.
If you get hold of some spare wheels & tires you can dye them in another color as well.
The Phoenix uses a different rear skid plate, motor plate, and rear bumper too the team associated B3 / t3 as well.
Servo is a bit slow so upgrade that & the radio too a 2.4 ghz one.
The esc handles 2s lipos fine btw if you want some more speed & torque out of it.
(Change the battery connector first though, stock Tamiya plugs are meh, specially for lipo power.)
Ofc no lipo cutoff built in, but you can toss in a hobbywing 1060 or a clone of one pretty cheaply these days.
As it's a ball diff they require maintenance or the occasional tightening up.
Remove the drive shaft on the passenger side and use a 2mm hex driver to tighten the screw that is inside the diff cup.
If that doesn't work, then you will need new diff balls.
Which ofc the team associated b3 & t3 ones work and are a bit harder as well so they'll last a bit longer.
Or if you just want too just run it without worrying about it fill the diff with like hotglue & lock it, spare parts here & there online.
