Nothing like having two men left carrying two knocked out Marines trying to make you're way back to the APC only for an alien to come out of nowhere and grab a Marine dragging him off while you open fire with a pistol as you're all out of ammo leading to both the Marine and Alien dying. Given some more dev time or increased budget this game would easily be an all-time classic rivaling the XCOM series. In truth I only encountered very few bugs throughout the campaign and it was definitely a thoroughly enjoyable experience. That being said, towards the mid-late game the difficulty ramps up to absolutely BRUTAL levels- the game plain broke me, as soon as you get spotted and aliens begin attacking you from multiple directions at once it is time to hit the reload save button - you realize that your lvl 10 marines loaded with cutting edge plasma rifles are woefully underpowered when caught out of position. The map design with tight corridors and limited firing arcs throws away any firepower advantage your marines may have. When I beat the game a couple of nights ago I was wiping sweat off my forehead, very intense experience . Fore newcomers, the two most important skills are Reprimand and Supressive fire, the first one prevents your marines from freaking out due to stress so you can keep them longer on the field and the second one lowers the movement speed of the aliens coming at you while doubling fire rate. Sergeant and Gunner are a must in every squad at every deployment.
@@Therealcarolinaguybut it is fun. Aliens are deadly, you know. Also sniper with silencer is a must starting from processor lvl. Mines also. Otherwise you will be detected too often.
My main gripe is that this difficulty is very non-linear, as in: If you play careful, you may come out on top almost always, if you screw up the errors cascade and you get a squad wipe which is a game over. What I think the difficulty curve needs is more cases when limited mistakes give limited punishments. By the end of the game I had only lost like 5 or so marines and had like 14 alive total, because during missions when I lost the first marine it usualy ended up with a wipe, which forces you to reload. I think it would be good for tension if you had more cases when you lose soldiers one by one and escape with 50% of the squad left. Right now the moment you lose a single marine you're likely to get everyone else killed within seconds.

over the head in tactics games are the way to go. You need oversight and fast intel what goes on yesterday to plan your next move and the top down view provide that. Over the shoulder with sound tells like in resident evil 2-3 remakes work too for what it does. Hasn't played 4 remake so no opinion if they did it right there. Rpgs and city builders is a similar thing, you need either easy overview or easy to navigate menues to show the intel needed that way. There is a reason almost every strategy rpg in existance is top down and most of the big rpgs like pillars, tyranny, divinity original sin and now baldurs gate 3 etc all are top down. Add tactical games in commandos style like desperados 3, shadow tactics sword of the shogun etc where you REALLY need info yesterday and first person view just don't work.

Love how Joe forgot to pick up the sentry. Which is a freaking lot of help in future missions. I think this game is awesome. Only issue i have with it is that they pretty overtuned the stress mechanic. My biggest annoyance is that the marines get massive debuffs so fast from stress. Issue isn't the difficulty of it but the annoyance.
Stress is pretty easy to manage. If you make a resting spot (rooms with green symbol on) you will decrease stress by 100. Say you are on 40 stress with a debuff for going over 100 once. You will have 40 stress and no debuff after resting. And you can do this once per tool provided you find a room with just 1 door to weld. you can even repeat this by unwelding and welding it again. so if you had 2 debuff for going over 100 twice and can just rest twice to get rid of the debuff provided you have the tools. Also if healing isnt a problem for you, you can use the medkits to lower stress by 100 per kit. Also another tip for mitigating stress. Engaging as little as possible in combat, Put up scanner frequently when you got max command points anyways. and use them to draw away the aliens. and a thing that wasnt used in this video is. Use your map!
@@TheRufas24 Yeah i know that mechanic, but it is rare to find 1 door rooms, and you often really need those tools. The issue is the speed how fast the stress meter accumulates stress. Not entirely the existance of the mechanic. And yeah it is clear that the game is going for a very very heavy stealth approach. But for that,. it offers very little stealth mechanics other than going in the other direction the aliens are going on your map.
@@robertschaffer596 i dont find 1 door rooms to be that rare. But ya once in awhile there is section/events in the game intented for you to overcome where you cant just destress your men at will except medkits. It does get alot easier later on when you get the Repriman ability halting all stress for an fixed amount of time. Which you can just keep running as long as you save 1 command point for it.
this games a lot of fun. kind of thin on features, but good for a lower priced title. i highly recommend changing the slow down feature to a full pause in the menus, and play on medium but reduce the aliens health to low on the cstom menu your first playthrough

I had nightmares about Aliens the movie as a kid even though its my favourite movie, this game gets very close to that feeling. I hope modders can tweak the sounds to match the movie more, I wonder if its a weird movie IP thing that they couldnt use the exact sounds?
I died in the tutorial sneaky mission bit probably about 8 times. I found it hard to predict where the alien was going. Then all of a sudden I had space from it and legged it. I found it much more fun with the marines and very tense. Really enjoying the game so far 👌
Best part of the game is the late game when Weyland gets involved. Rolling up on Weyland and the aliens fighting and it turns into a 3 way fight. Great times lol

@@vigi1319mid to late game the difficulty ramps up to terrifyingly brutal levels. Mostly because of the map layouts and amount of enemies. It is impossible to use a stealth from that point onwards.
I’m not a fan of Joe, haven’t seen one of his videos in years. But there’s one thing we have in common is our love for Aliens. This is hands down the best Aliens game since the AVP marine campaigns for the pc. Its visceral, claustrophobic, stressful and intense. Fucking love this game.
A pretty solid game. The game does have some annoying at launch such a bugs and crashes after leaving a mission. The cosmetic customization of your marines is pretty trash, the voice acting is kinda off, and the hard and extreme difficulty is impossible. But overall I’m having fun with combat (with optional stealth) and a variety of enemy types and missions to keep you invested. I give the game a 7/10
If you’re playing, walk backwards from the aliens, don’t run away. You can keep doing damage while walking and that’s what matters. Also tactical analysis is goated
The game is honestly one of the best it made me laugh with a buddy because I am like it would seem the Alien franchise is only truly capable of being amazing as a strategy game because the last absolutely flawless Alien game came out in 2003 and that was Aliens vs Predator Extinction which was a RTS that allowed you to play as all three species and was done with immense authenticity to the creature and lore of each faction. So playing as them was enjoyable and engaging bringing unique challenges along the way. Aliens - They started off incredibly vulnerable and had to expand upon their numbers in relative secrecy until their numbers got to such point where they no longer had to worry about being found. Predators - They're tanks and they're strong in every sense of the word but they had to play to their strengths as the only way to gain resources was through trophy kills so you couldn't just throw predators in rapidly like the Xenomorphs. Marines: You had a variety of tech and average numbers but because you had immense range comparing to the other two factions you had to use this to your advantage and a lot of their playstyles were finding fortifications and hunkering yourself down in order to bring in more troops and accumulate resources from generators located on the map.. so protect your LZ
It's a great game and you can find yourself doing well in a deployment, only to have it flip on you in a matter of seconds and your team is in a world of hurt. The only thing that bugs me about it is that it doesn't allow you to single any marines out to move independently. You can't order two to flank to the left, the other two to flank to the right.
I had to give Ezekiel Smith nickname which was "Redfield" because much like Chris Redfield this everyone kept dying around him leaving him the only guy to survive every mission 🤣🤣

@@Solus749 holy essay, batman!
@@No1ANTAGON1ST you have never read a newsarticle in your life right? or anything at all unless a teacher forced you? Do you even have reading comprehension skills at all? Is that the way you do this....seriously read! Not joking here I have a severerity 5-6 out of 10 ADHD and I manage that, how bad must you be?
@Solus749 I want you to know, I've not read a single sentence you've wrote.
@@No1ANTAGON1ST so you do have complete illiteracy or a 12 out of 10 ADHD disability worse than someone who actually have ADHD then good to know🤣👍
Love how Joe forgot to pick up the sentry.
I'm still waiting on the "Cooking with Alex, and OJ show"!
ANGRYJOE PLEAZE MAKE THIS HAPPEN!!!
ps Loved your vid!
this games a lot of fun. kind of thin on features, but good for a lower priced title. i highly recommend changing the slow down feature to a full pause in the menus, and play on medium but reduce the aliens health to low on the cstom menu your first playthrough
If you like Aliens its an obvious buy, though it is like a PTSD simulator. I had nightmares about Aliens the movie as a kid even though its my favourite movie, this game gets very close to that feeling.
I hope modders can tweak the sounds to match the movie more, I wonder if its a weird movie IP thing that they couldnt use the exact sounds?
This game is amazing, i want more
This game is friggin HARD AF lol!! But yes, also AWESOME
This game worth evert penny! I wish they bring more DLC or something. For a small studio the results are very good.
Game needs more! I'm addicted! Played through the story three times cause I love the gameplay. I just want more levels.
You forget the darwinian gang, although they sided with the aliens.
I hope you play the rest of the game it’s really awesome!
It's 'Drake, we are leaving.' Not, 'Marines, we are leaving.' That's what everyone thinks. Lol
Yup, you know your stuff!
The beginning is literally the extent of my gameplay experience.
Fuck that stealth tutorial.
Love this game! I mean I would still like a remaster of alien vs predator extinction but I love this game.
Been playing this game so much, it really is what isolation is to alien but dark descent is to aliens
This has to be one of the best Alien games I’ve played, i really hope they add dlc and more improvements to the game
Was on the fence with this one definitely looked cool. Glad you enjoyed it makes me want it now :)
This does look fun! Oh! The way that woman yells 'AHHH! My Arm!' Had me rollin'! Don't know why but it was hilarious.
This game is one of the few Alien games that actually is worth every cent and lives up to the license. But seeing you guys playing so recklessly a proper review might take you while :-) And you want to go mission beyond the first 2-3 because everytime the devs archive to suprise with new threads, stuff and locations.
I think it would be hilarious if kfc had a hot chicken sign like Krispy Kreme 😂
This game is hard as fuck later on.
where ? i just finish the mission with cultists
@@vigi1319mid to late game the difficulty ramps up to terrifyingly brutal levels. Mostly because of the map layouts and amount of enemies. It is impossible to use a stealth from that point onwards.
@@vigi1319 Wait til you get infection level 6
You should do a full proper review on this one Joe
I’m not a fan of Joe, haven’t seen one of his videos in years. But there’s one thing we have in common is our love for Aliens.
This is hands down the best Aliens game since the AVP marine campaigns for the pc.
Its visceral, claustrophobic, stressful and intense. Fucking love this game.
Soooooooo good, I've never been more surprised and pleased by a movie franchise game
LOL the KFC commentary was the best part of this video, that had me lol
for so many years we didnt have new (old classic style) type of game! this looks very entertaining!
Everyone gets that line wrong, it's not 'marines', it's "'Drake' we are leaving"
You beat me to it. Poor Drake, giving his squad a way out, only to have Vasquez screw it all up. LOL
Please make a full review! The game has so much love for the IP, second only to Alien: Isolation imo
Was Joe reviewing fried chicken, looked like it was an epic fail lol? Glad you played the game, its awesome!!
Last decent "Aliens" RTS we had was AvP Extinction
8:51 No Man’s Sky tech used 😮
A pretty solid game.
Im sorry Joe, but do you like ALIENS movie or not ? Because this is BEST alien game since AvP 1999. Howgh.
I haven’t liked an RTS since Battle for Middle Earth 2, so I’m unsure if I should try this. I do love the Alien franchise.
This is a Classic!! Strategical planning is a must...
Its so freaking good. it actually makes you tense when playing it
Whoa that’s an old late 80s aliens comic book story with the cult
games like this are awesome they challenge you to use your brain.
Been waiting for these guys to play it before i checked it out, thank god for the steam summer sale
When Joe says "buy!", I say "How many?!"
The OG M577 APC can be unlocked it's a hidden prize
So excited for this! Day one purchase.
This is a great Aliens game, and it surprises how you can actually have a RTS game mixed with horror. Amazing game.
Just ordered it because I love the franchise & trust your judgement
I absolutely LOVE this game. I’m. I am counting down till when I get off work so I can play it.
I would suggest investing in an air fryer for reheating your KFC, almost as good as getting it fresh from the shop
Hopefully the developers get a bigger budget for future content, it's obviously a very cheaply made game with an incredible foundation.
"See, what happened was... I was eating chicken" 🤣😂
This game pleasantly surprised me for sure!
Nice too see them enjoy a game
