Discovering Our Lady of Bethlehem, California's Oldest Marian Statue | by Dr. Marian Horvat

- Created for the History of the Catholic Faith in the Americas Conference, this full-length presentation by Church scholar and historian Dr. Marian T. Horvat explores the adventure and role of the life-size dressed statue of Our Lady of Bethlehem that accompanied Fr. Junípero Serra’s historic Sacred and “Impossible” Expedition of 1769, which sought to conquer for Spain the 500-mile-stretch of Alta California by establishing its first two Missions in San Diego and Monterey. Viewers will also learn of the statue’s continued presence in Mission San Carlos Borromeo in Carmel-by-the-Sea, and Our Lady of Bethlehem’s fate when the missions were dissolved and the friars dismissed by the Act of Secularization imposed by the Mexican government in 1833. Finally, viewers will also learn of Our Lady of Bethlehem’s return to the Carmel Mission in the restoration project of the 20th century.
About the presenter:
Marian Therese Horvat received a Bachelor of Arts from the School of Journalism at the University of Kansas. Later she returned to Kansas University and earned a doctorate in Medieval History. She has translated and edited various Portuguese and Spanish works, including manuscripts from Quito on the revelations of Our Lady of Good Success to the 16th century nun Madre Mariana de Jesús Torres. In 1997 she began her collaboration with Mr. Atila Sinke Guimarães, translating and editing his 11-volume Collection on Vatican Council II titled Eli, Eli, Lamma Sabacthani? In 1999 they established the nonprofit corporation Tradition in Action in Los Angeles to publish their works on the Church, history and Catholic culture. For the last 20 years she has published articles and reviews regularly on their website www.traditioninaction.org as well as given talks pertaining to history and Catholic culture.

The number of images compared to the live video of Dr. Horvat is a good balance. I believe you are just fishing for things to whine about.
@@nicholasbassirpour5436 I am not whining about anything. I am seemingly telling the TRUTH. The images of the Virgin Mary and everything related to the video are far more important and interesting to viewers like me than look at the face of the storyteller whom I and my friends have known so well. That's exactly what I am telling her so she knows next time, she is not important of any video but the CONTENT OF WHAT SHE IS TRYING TO PRESENT ARE FAR MORE IMPORTANT AND INTERESTING TO THE VIEWERS.
