  • Here is a little vid on my experience with the Remington770, and how much trouble and issues I have had with it. This has nothing to do with the new Remington, and this does not represent their new products or the new owners of the brand!!!!!!

The Mosin is over 70 years old, it's probably been to war, or at least parts of it has and it still works. Proven reliable design.
770 is junk right out of the box.

My Mosin was made in 1915 right here in the good ol USA by New England Westinghouse. For a rifle that is 100+ years old, she has never failed to go BANG when I squeeze the trigger and at one time I could put a 3 shot group inside the area of a quarter.

Sorry to hear about your Remington, it sucks when it doesn’t work the way you want, I feel ya.
I wouldn’t say Mosin is a garbage rod for the money we pay for a 70+ years old rifle. It’s build tough. It has taken all beat ups, still can take more, you can abuse it but still work great unlike any new firearms that are of the same price level.
I would call Mosin as a poor man’s sniper gun.
    Cheers

Yep, all I had to do to my mossin was remove stock and run it through my shop parts washer to remove the cosmo. Slapped that sucker back together and it has never failed to go bang since. My 2015 Remington on the other hand has had several internal components in the trigger group replaced and needed a new spring in the bolt because of light primer strikes right out of the box. Oddly enough my super cheap Ruger American shot 2 moa right out of box with the cheap scope it came with. Remington was definitely coasting on name recognition for quite a while after they had run out gas.

I'm 110% glad I chose the Ruger American Predator over the Remington when I was looking to purchase a new bolt gun. Runs flawlessly.

@@louderpowder3298 By 1943, the USSR was not in such a precarious situation like the years prior. It won collosal victories at Stalingrad, Kursk, and Kiev. Of course, small arms production was more focused on the the PPSh-41 than the Mosin.

Brother's got a Savage 30-06 bolt and it pales in comparison to my 80 year old Mosin , Mosin bolt stuck a bit due to a burr on the extractor, removed that and its smoother than 90% of modern hunting rifles, people always comment on how well it handles.

The main reason people think that the 91/30 is a junk rod is because when it was made at the factory it was sited with the bayonet on it according to the military regulations the bayonet must be on at all times

I got my 770 right before they were discontinued. Some of the problems were supposedly 'fixed' before the bad reputation forced them to replace it with the 783. So far I haven't had any serious problems but I've only put 200 rounds through it at the range.

If it works use it, they are not even worth the time to try and sell on the used market, so if you got a good one hold on to that rifle. No one gun is the same as another of the same model. Glad to hear you have no issues!

Let's be honest, Remington has been a dumpster fire since the late 1980s, and they destroyed the Marlin Line... IMO Remington sucks and I am disappointed the didn't go out of business in 1986. Not sorry for saying it and will never apologize for it.

    • @shawnwells5719

Remington didn't go down the tube until the late 90s. In the 1980s, they were still producing excellent guns. I stopped looking at them in after 2000. I won a 700 XCR in a raffle in 2008, and despite being a $1,000 rifle, the trigger was such a piece of junk I had to replace it.

I think the whole garbage rod thing is just a bunch of old fudds not knowing what the hell they are talking about, just like the Arisaka being more likely to explode in your face than to kill someone, yet that rifle can chamber a 30-06 cartridge and swage it down to a .264 caliber bullet when fired and be hungry for more, it was the strongest rifle made in WW2 yet a bunch of idiots (racists more likely) claimed they were trash.
But whatever, they keep the prices down so I guess it's not too bad lol.
