There really was not much that you did right. You luckily replaced your purge valve to solve the issue. This code can also be a leak in the top of the tank. An issue with the vent valve or charcoal canister. All you really have to do is go on live data and look at your fuel trims and then plug off the hose and see if your fuel trims get better. This was throwing darts. You have good luck.
How do you know for sure where the leak is being caused? I had this code come up for the first time since owning the car for 5 years. In all the research I've done, and what you mentioned in the beginning, many things can cause it. Did you address all of those first and still have the light so you're doing this? Or is there a way to know exactly where the leak is?
Hi Korrin! Great question, first off, you can check the usual suspects such as the gas cap or looking at your evap hoses for any obvious cracks. If that doesn't work, you can build your own smoke machine to test for evap leaks too small to see with your eye. I replaced my gas gap and always make sure it's on correct, I also replaced that valve and still have the code. So I went on to replace a couple vacuum lines just to do it and see but still have the code. Could the charcoal canister under the car cause this code?

Hi Kodiak. Yes, replacing the valve did solve my problem. The P0456 code is a very small evaporations systems leak. It could be your gas cap, a very small crack in a hose or the canister close valve I replaced in this video. There are other causes but those are the most common. Thanks for watching!
Hey Comeback, I have a 2014 Rav 4, presenting with a P0456 code. I replaced the gas cap and replaced the evap canister. The mechanic did a smoke test and dropped the fuel tank, but didn't find any leaks. Do you have any thoughts? This small leak is driving me crazy!
Hi The trinity. Geez, if they dropped the tank and did a smoke test, I'm not sure what else they could look at. Fox example it could be a crack in an evaporator hose or your charcoal canister but, it would have shown up with the smoke test. Do you notice it year round? Or only in cold weather?
@@TheComebackKid Hi, I had to take it to Toyota for service. It turns out when they dropped the fuel tank they found a bad fuel pump top hat which was cracked and some mice had nested near it. Mystery solved! Your instincts were correct about the cold weather- in the NE the mice seek warmth.
If you want to test that valve for leaks , pull it off and suck on the grey nipple and it shouldn’t pull any air. I usually find the problem in the charcoal canister area.

This is an easy DIY thanks for the instructions however not a fan for after market electrical parts but OEM since they are accurately calibrated .

Under the plastic V6 cover. It snaps off and you’ll see it on the right side towards the radiator

That’s not the canister close valve. That’s the vent valve. Close valve is usually near the canister
