Thanks Eddie very nice video. It´s take me back 20 years when I visited the lovely Hua Hin. Very nice memories. Hope to see you on a horseback riding away in the sunset.
Don’t know anyone who doesn’t like Hua Hin. The nightlife is there if you want it but not in your face so the resort can easily cater for families and the single male alike!. The other great thing about Hua Hin which you touched on is that it is pleasing on the eye and obviously well managed by the council. Compare that with the chaos of Pattaya with half finished bodged up pavements everywhere that smell of blatant corruption. Great to see you settling in anyway - beats my day of digging the compost into the veg patch back home in UK!😄. Are you planning to do a slot on your hotel as it looked good when you arrived by bus?.
I live in Bangkok and I hate HuaHin. I get why some people like it, because of all of what you've said and it's all true. It's just average at everything: it's an average beach, average town, average price, etc. Thais love it because they don't actually like beaches, they will visit the beach at dusk. Hi Ed, A pony is up to 14.2 hands and a horse is over 14.2 hands going all the way up to a Shire horse at over 17 hands. Hua Hin is Thai for Stone Head, its a royal resort, this is where the kings summer palace is, just north of the place its self. I visited before the king died, and as you said, it has a feel about it. The pounds doing better against the dollar, your on 44.47 today up a baht since Sunday. Great vid Ed, would love to get a VW beach buggy on the beach there, It reminds me of the racing on Southport beach years ago.
I live in Chiang Rai (about as far from the coast as you can get!!) but, every few months I head south for my dose of sea air. It was nearly always Kamala Beach in Phuket or Koh Chang but, about 2 years ago after driving past Hua Hin dozens of times a friend recommended that I visit and it has now become my town of choice. Great beaches, enough night life to keep me happy (it will get better!) some great places to eat, enough shops (if that's your thing) some great cycling routes (yes, I'm also a cyclist!) but without all the glitz of Pattaya, Patong or some of the other tourist traps. It has a friendly vibe about the place and for a seaside town, it's reasonably priced.
Yes, its not trashy like so many others. A good clean little town. Can walk everywhere, good restaurants and enough nightlife. Lucky me stayed at the Hilton a couple of years ago. The train station is historic and a must see. The trip down to Chumporn is good. Then not far to Surat Thani.

Hua Hin is a nice place, although the first time I went there was directly after a spell in Saigon, and the quiet of the place in the day, in contrast to Saigon, freaked me out a bit. Hua Hin for sure, but love Chiang Mai from mid-Oct to mid-Jan, especially for cycling. The best air quality in the Kingdom is definitely on the peninsula.
I'll be out there April 1st and I was going to go to chiang mai. I've never been there or hua hin, although I've been to Thailand many times. Which of the two would you'd think I'd have a better time...single guy late 50s, not a drinker but like the night life and also enjoy doing excursions. Any advice would be appreciated.
@@keithd1219 Hi Keith. Chiang Mai and the northern part of Thailand has a very different feel than the south or places in the middle part of Thailand such as Hua Hin. Hua Hin combines a long stretch of beach and many amenities like lots of places with good food, western or Thai stile but never the less it is a city. If you like great beaches, there are better places than Hua Hin like the islands in the southern part of Thailand or Koh Chang in the east for example. Night live in Hua Hin is nothing special. On the other hand the natural beauty around Chiang Mai is amazing. It's mountainous with cooler climate. There are lot's of activities that can be done around Chiang Mai and if you like to do excursions like hiking, day trips or renting a motorbike for a tour this could be a great place for you to go. And of course there is night life in Chiang Mai. It's the second biggest city in Thailand. Just bear in mind in and around Chiang Mai there is a burning season. Farmers burn their dry fields and the air pollution from smoke is very bad. You might want to check it here: www.travellerselixir.com/burning-season-chiang-mai/ First of April might be a little early to go to Chiang Mai because of the burning season. Depends how much time you want to spend in Thailand. Bear in mind that in April usually it is very hot in Thailand. In the north, especially at higher altitude, temperature is considerably lower than BKK or in the southern part of Thailand. Hope you will enjoy your stay in Thailand and have a good time.
@@martin36959 Amazing reply Martin . I don't think I could have had better information Thank you very much. I plan on going out there April 5 and then play it by ear. Great video Ed. You really summed it up accurately. It is my favourite place in Thailand as it has got great beach, enough nightlife (Binta, Soi 80/88/94) and a couple of great shopping malls. I could easily live 6 months in HH and 6 in Uk. Really enjoying your content, keep them coming.
Hua Hin beach is o.k., but a big minus fore not having a beatch road/walking street, like they have 30 min. north in Cha Am. There also many nice beatches south of Hua Hin.
You can do all the pony rides on Blackpool beach and Blackpool has a better beach and weather, what are you doing Eddie? It’s all on your door step, no need to go abroad!
Been visiting Hua Hin for years and was “stranded” 😉 there in March 2020 for 6 months as the first lockdown started. It made my mind up that I could live there, previously lived in Bangkok and Pattaya. In November last year when Test & Go started I moved to Hua Hin, live behind soi 94, less than 10 minutes walk to the beach and absolutely love it. To get back to Bangkok you can get an air conditioned by a from the station near soi 96. Twice a day, think it’s 9.30 and 13.00 for 239 baht. Takes you to Mo Chit, then BST to Asoke etc. Give Baan Kuhn Por at the top of soi 88 a try one evening. Plenty of bars in soi 94 as that will be the place replacing soi Binta Baht
@@keithd1219 I’ve only been to Chiang Mai once and that was over 10 years ago, enjoyed it but prefer the coast. I’m actually in the UK until the 10th of April and get back to HH on the 12th. One place I’d always say to visit is Kanchanaburi, well worth 2/3 days to visit the war graves and then onto hellfire pass. As with most things not everyone has the same preferences when on holiday. I believe Chiang Mai is getting more visitors now that tourists are making a return to Thailand so the night markets etc are getting busier
Thank you John for your reply. I think I'll go to chiang mai this go around and play it by ear with an open ended bangkok ticket. Im not a big beach goer person as im 20 minutes from the beach here in Florida and never go...I'd have a better time in the UK 😆...something different.
If you take another stroll along the Hua Hin beach and see something green and shiny in the sand---it's a 7 carat emerald pendant I lost there about 15 years ago. True story👍
Not been to that place ive heard of it lots of times though and thought of going to it regularly as my many friends do but I wouldn't be in any hurry to go there by the look of things the place looks derelict and the kite surfing and beaches are just as good as that in Western Australia 🇦🇺 I think maybe laos or Vietnam would suit me better 👍

Glad you've found contentment there. Thanks for your info.
John, I'll be out there April 1st and was going to hit chiang mai...never been there or hua hin. Which do you prefer?
True story👍
Consider showcasing some high end resort style condominiums around Hua Hin. So potential retirees can compare the value to what Pattaya offers.
I can't see you going back to work for much longer Eddie with all that's on offer. Relaxation. You have earned it 👍
Thank you
Looks like a good weekender from bangkok 👍
Hua Hin is good enough. It can provide western comfort.💗
1600 bht at 43,37BHT pound equals £36.89.Id much prefer 200 bht on the bus thank you!
I found hua hin a nice plesent place.for me 3 nights was enough..but has a lot to offer..

Good to hear from you, Robert.
Very beautiful and clean beach
I really like it . It's not dirty looking like Pattaya. How much is it to ride a horse? They look well taken care of. . I would not ride one if they were abused . It was terrible in Peru. Great video, Eddie. Ok . I have to ask . Can I find a girl there ?
Don't know about the horse, but you can find a girl here.
@Edward Sweeney lol . Thanks Eddie.
Looks lovely and makes Pattaya look like a dump ! Next time im over i really need to pull myself away from the Pattaya bar girls and travel ( i have been to Issan with Thai girlfriend ) and this video certainly makes me want to visit Hua Hin.

Thanks for the info.
You definitely made the right decision to leave Pattaya mate, plenty of great places to explore
Good to hear from you, Colin.
Soi bintabaht and 94 are definitely busy on the weekends and evenings are busy for sure but compared to bkk etc yea it’s quiet just check out Johnny there is something happening will see how busy it really is at the minute I keep hearing great things about father teds I think it’s called
Father teds is OK, but when they have bands on like the Bangkok beatles, you you need to reserve a table weeks in advance, even the seats at the bar, or your standing up like a spare part lol
@@wbev_thai1666 ah good to know mainly was told good place for ufc good food and cheap cold beer
LMAO the entire town is a fire hazzard! wires everywhere! Beautiful nonetheless.
Great place to go, it's all there but on a much slower, smaller scale than pattaya. Much less in your face than some of the other holiday places.
I wonder if the magic man is still there who stands at the edge of soi bintabhat on an evening?
From here on the Redneck Riviera to you on the Thai Riviera, well done, Eddie. Lovely place, can`t wait to get there.
I spend at least 6 months a year in hua hin, I love the place , definitely suits me
Good for you mate
@@paulsmith2279 You can get by okay with English.
@@paulsmith2279 there is more people speaking English than not in hua hin , its not like going nakhon sawan, or kamphaenphet lol
Can’t beat it mate IMO
@@retiredandtravelingasia I'm a old boy with a thai gf , we don't go out late drinking and it's just a clean, relaxing place, we know so many people here now ,it's just nice and relaxing lol
The 3rd class train fare from Bangkok to Hun him is only 44 bhat. 229 Kms.
