Elton released this song in the 70s. It charted but when George released it as a surprise duet live at George’s Cover to cover tour, it went number one all over the world. If you watch the interview with Elton, when he talks about his top 10 favorite songs, this one sits up there as being one of his favorites. However, he says, that when George released it, he made it his own, and just took it to another level.
2 great artists George was definately under rated , great vocalist , He could sing the phone book and it would sound great 😂 I grew up on Elton's music ❤
Fantastic duet and what a surprise for the crowd! Dunno if you recognised the drummer, it's Jonathan Moffett - absolute legend, played for Michael Jackon for decades.
Elton's song, George's concert. George has lots of bangers and duets. If I told you that with Whitney Houston, I knew you were waiting with Aretha Franklin, Somebody to love with Queen tribute, and with Mary J As remix. Just to name a few, One More Try by George is awesome too. Thanks for your reaction
If you want to see actual young Elton, check out his 70s live performances, he's fantastic! This was in '91, I believe, so he was in his mid-career years, right before he started doing Lion King & that era of his music. I personally don't care for that stuff, too sappy, but he's an icon forever for his 70s stuff, like the original release of this song in '74. I grew up in the 70s & 80s, luckily...we had the best music!
I love how George held back when they were both singing together. He had such respect for others. Some of George’s music got me through some tough times.
George did a number of duets with some great artists. Most peole know the Aretha Franklin duet but he also did one with Whitney Houston and Mary J Blige. Both are so amazingly good. They are definite favorites of mine and would love for you to react to them.
Apparently the audience had no idea that Elton John (who wrote the song) would be performing. He had recently gotten out of rehab when George Michael asked him to sing.
My guess is that, to Elton John's credit, he made a conscious decision to dress down so that George could get most of the shine since it was George's concert and he just made a guest appearance. I respect that.
This wasn’t the first time GEORGE and ELTON had collaborated though, EJ’s album from (‘85 I think it was), Ice On Fire featured George on backing vocals for the Nikita single and George shared the vocals on Wrap Her Up single 😊
There’s some interesting behind the scenes to this collaboration bro. In ‘92 GM too his record label Sony to court, he wanted out of his contract as he felt he had next to no control over his work and that he believed they treated him just like a “piece of software”. I think he was critical of their promotion (or lack of his Listen Without Prejudice album) if I remember correctly. And while this was ongoing Sony had some sort of injunction or whatever in place saying he couldn’t record or perform any existing or new songs, even his own, something like that and this is one of the reasons behind this, his good friend Elton said “eff them, we’ll do one of my songs” and Queen did something similar by releasing Somebody To Love as s single (the live version where GM provided the lead vocals) at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert. Sadly, eventually GM lost his case against the record label 😕
Here again then, EJ’s Nikita featuring George Michael on backing vocals duty, also on duty on guitar was another British star of the 80’s Nik Kershaw 😊 ua-cam.com/video/Tg-Q-Acv4qs/v-deo.htmlsi=sS_r6ttXxD_Eu4zT This and Wrap Her Up would have been POST-Wham for George (1985) and before his duet with Aretha Franklin (I Knew You Were Waiting For Me) and before his viral debut album Faith in 1987 😊
Hello, I highly recommend you listen to George Michael’s cover of “They won’t go when I go”. One of the best cover ever, even Stevie Wonder agrees. Have a great day! ☀️😊
I grew up listening to this version. I never knew there was any other.
This song was massive here in the UK. Its still my favourite rendition of this song. Love George - one of the greatest male voices ever in my opinion!
Mine too❤
I mean G. M.
Agree 💯%
Totally agree...who would've thunk it when he was with Wham singing Wake me up before you go-go...lol.
@@sonofjay817 Hey, don't knock Wham! They were the first posters on my bedroom wall LOL

One of my favourite performances of all time.
Remember watching it live way back when.
Best duet ever in music history. No debate!
RIP George! One of the best singers ever lived
2 great artists

Love them both… George is so missed ❤ You need to do some George Michael reactions! He has some beautiful songs. Please😁
Oh!, I absolutely love this version!
This is one of my favorite live videos ever. It is so amazing.
Fantastic duet and what a surprise for the crowd! Dunno if you recognised the drummer, it's Jonathan Moffett - absolute legend, played for Michael Jackon for decades.
Jonathan has a channel on utube where he plays dreams its awesome.
Jonathan Sugar foot Moffatt
Wow, you sing really good!

George Michael was a sublime singer! I saw him live on his last tour, "25Live". It was one of the best I've seen live till this day! He is missed❤
Underrated vocalist.
Great performance by two icons. Thank you for detailed and enthusiastic reaction.
This performance just warms my heart..
They compliment each other so well.
I miss Michaels voice ❤❤ great reaction
amazing duet....this song is so light and sweet

Their talent cannot be denied. R.I.P. George Michael ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

You need to watch Elton’s concert at the LA coliseum in the 70’s. He was VERY young and was dressed like a LA Dodger. It’s amazing. Great, video.
That was magical!
Apparently the audience had no idea that Elton John (who wrote the song) would be performing. He had recently gotten out of rehab when George Michael asked him to sing.
I've always loved this duet! Brings me back to early break up days. haha. Such a great duet!!!
this was is the 90's. He wore caps a few times then. You need to see 70's even early 80's Elton. He was a real show man
Huge in US as well. I knew someone at that concert & it was fire!
Loved this song to start with but this one takes it to another level
See Sugarfoot . Jonathan Moffet on the drums Michael Jacksons drummer and many others....
So good❤

It is a concert for AIDS. Go the reason now for the choice of included songs?
Oh definitely 1970s Elton is wonderful, he ruled the charts
What a voice G.M. had. But Elton John is just a legend
You're right. We'll never see agaain.😊😊😊
Don't be silly, check out EJ's appearance on Top of the Pops circa 1970!

George was part of the Great 3… those were Michael Jackson, Freddy Mercury and George Michael… 3 of the best (male) singers of the last 100 years.
3:38 is a sublime note change.
Here’s Elton and George for the Wrap Her Up single (check out that falsetto from GM)!

Roger Daltry lead singer of The Who did a version of this which was used in 80's vampire movie the lost boys.
Ay Elton can throw down! Check out some of his earlier stuff 🔥🔥🔥
I never cared for George Michael's music but damn can the man sing
You gotta check out some live Elton from the 1970s- voice like butter 🧈

👍
No, this was originally an Elton John song.
Elton John was not young in this. He had been a global icon for 20+ years. And he wasn't dressed up because it wasn't his concert.
Listen to what he said.
Hello,
I highly recommend you listen to George Michael’s cover of “They won’t go when I go”. One of the best cover ever, even Stevie Wonder agrees.

☀️😊
It’s a shame it was never recorded
Elton was not so young in this appearance, probably middle age.
please do Elton John Candle in the wind and also Candle in the wind princess Diana version
After watching this, I wanted to(and did) watch Elton with Kiki Dee.
That’s Michael Jackson’s former drummer
Thats a one off
Elton wasn't that young in this performance, actually. Well in comparison to his carreer, I guess I mean. He was at least 40 in this one.
This is Middle Age Elton. His music from the early-mid 70s is his best (and his voice was much better than here)...
Go and watch Elton doing 'Tiny Dancer' back in the &)'s
If you think he looks young here, watch any performance from 1970 😂
Hey fren, could you please check out Elmiene's new song "Crystal Tears (Offical Audio)" I think you would really like it!
Elton wrote this song
No harm ...but u should drink tea ...coffee normal
Can't see
