I like how he said speeding is safe for an “emergency”. Like “oh no there is an accident in front of me, let me speed up” I get the police/ service thing, if they made cheaper eVs with solid performance/ strength and without all the gadgets and craziness, it could be a perfect police car. I saw the Model 3 being used as a cruiser for Michigan? But if we had a car like that without and huge screen, and all the gadgets like self driving, fully electric door handles and all these crazy safety stuff could be very expensive. If we had a back to basics eV, It could totally be a beast police cruiser. Edit: whoops I forgot that spelling existed.
It's not about the features that they lack speed. It's just how electric motors are. They can't rotate fast enough because of the single gear nature of electric engines. Moreover, even if they are able to speed, electric motors get too hot and can't rotate too fast for a long time so most of the cars just limit their speed and only go at top speed for a short while. That's a big problem and even if we return to basics, an eV can't really be a good emergency vehicle.
@@sash19 Where does everyone get this single gear thing from? EVs can be equipped with multiple speed transmissions in exactly the same way that an ICE car can. The reason that most EVs are single speed is because they produce enough torque from 0RPM to just take off and negate the need for a gearbox. Many performance cars, like the Rimac C1 or Porsche Taycan, use a two speed transmission to gain more speed. It's the exact same principle as an ICE car. Another reason for no transmission is that most EVs have motors in between the wheels, and not in the front to keep a low centre of gravity. To use a transmission you would need to move the motor further away from the wheels.
@@achilleaustin Yes I get it and I know that they can use multiple gears. However, as you explained yourself, it's usually too difficult (a few attempts for about 4 or 5 gears were made but they haven't succeeded) and costly and here specifically, I was talking about more everyday vehicles which could be used as Police cars. You know that vehicles which cost over $100k can't be used as Police cars which leaves us mostly with the lower end Teslas and Electric Fords, all of which have a single gear transmission. So, they aren't really good cars if you plan to run them at high speeds.
@@sash19 Any standard ICE car could have an electric engine swapped into them, with some custom mounts, and boom you have a 6 speed. You'd wanna change ratios though because electric engines rev up to roughly 18k rpm, but that could be achieved by messing with diffs and final drive. This exact thing was done to a corvette, simply search electric corvette and you will find it
If you want fuel efficency and quick transportation without high costs, then make teleportation a thing. Think about it.No need for automobiles, public transportation, trucks, spaceships and rockets. The only thing i find that is a downside,is probably the electricity bill every time you transport from A to B.
There is definitely some bad science in this video. This assertion related to electric cars and highway driving is incorrect. Regenerative breaking found on electric cars and hybrid cars does indeed greatly reduces energy lost in braking in stop and go and city driving. So, yes, electrics and hybrids are more efficient that combustion engines cars for stop/go and city. However, the reduced amount of braking at highway speeds does not make electrics and hybrids less efficient than combustion engine cars for highway speeds. Both types will have similar energy losses due to air resistance and rolling friction. And electric engines are inherently more efficient in converting energy to torque/forward motion.

It's also nice feedback that can convey information to you like acceleration and gearing. Oh, that reminds me: no more can the "shiftin' gears and drinkin' beers" phrase apply! That's -2 for me!
I got one for ya, batteries are surprisingly combustible. You may say "so is gasoline" and yes, that is true. But here's the kicker, these EVs can catch fire more than once.
Gas still more, with a combustion car, you are literally carrying a bomb, if anything goes wrong, the car can explode and kill a lot of people, By the other side, EVs don't tend to burn, that is really difficult to happen but it happens, but you have time to leave the car, and there's no explosion, only fire, so what youre saying, is worse in "normal" cars
Top 3 reasons why people buy electric cars. 1. They dont care about top speed FFS 2. Fuel economy 3. Often more reliable than a Internal combustion engine
studies have shown most electric car buyers dont do many miles and dont go on the motorways or highways or whatever they are called in other countries, even those who own teslas with a much higher range, which suggests top speed is not a matter oh yeah and this video is about electric car problems in general, not for a certain group of people...
That last point I think stretches to even hybrid and combustion engine cars with advanced infotainment systems and/or semi autonomous driving capability.
Honestly, some of these are plain wrong 1. Nobody in an EV is going to drive over 100 MPH and manufacturers want to advertise better range. Also , Tesla Model S Top Speed: 173 MPH Porsche Taycan 2. This isn't a big problem, many manufacturers have solutions to this Tesla: have a higher roof and higher seats Porsche: Footwell area that dips into the battery space 3. This was plain wrong. I chose the Model 3 as it has a low price and is popular Model 3: 120 MPGe (Highway) 4. Many EVs compensate for this by its torque 5. Many companies have stated that they do not sell your data. They collect it for real life tests and comparisons and they do not sell it
Yes you missed 2 things, 1 they are silent witch is horrible, 2 for people like me who have to bike/walk everywhere ev's are dangerous because you can't hear them I have lost count of all the times I got nearly run over by those stupid things
If you require speeds in excess of 100mph then you don't buy an ev built for urban driving/commuting,pretty poor arguments against EVs. The extra weight isn't really relevant,as electric cars have masses of torque, and the weight is more evenly distributed compared to an ice car.
Top speed problem is BS he just used the worst examples Tesla model S top speed- 155mph Tesla model X top speed-155mph Tesla model 3 top speed-139mph Tesla roadster 2020- 250+mph
The first one is kinda bullshit since its the acceleration people will actually use and not the ability to go over 100mph, Acceleration is whats actually the safer thing during accidents. I also don't think the cops would ever use the VW UP or E-up.. so its a little disingenuous to bring it up
I still see the future in hydrogen powerd cars. Because they dont have the heavy bateries wich are also extremly non enviromental friendly in produktion.
Well, I would not bash the electric car of it's speed too much because you cannot even use the top speed in America anyways even if you did have the traditional combustion engine. It would take the fun out of tuning but why would you need speed when there are so many rules to follow?
Ehhh Tesla has not any of this Problems they are improving their Range as well And Teslas have a GREAT Top Speed the Roadster 2020 has a top Speed of 400 km/h And Teslas Technology is way more ahead than other Car Brands trying to build E-Cars
Hes said emergency services can't use them because they only do 70 to 80 mph but a Mercedes sprinter van that can do 145mph is limited to 80mph if used as a ambulance so its not to bad for them to use electric vehicles
Emissions, due to their weight EV's emit a lot of dust from the brakes and tyres, which wear down faster. Also the batteries contain materials that are being mined using either children or heavy diesel machinery. Not "Zero-Emission" at all.
The breaks wear far slower thanks to regenerative breaking. Most of the time stopping is through that, rather than the brakes. You could even drive with just one pedal if you wanted to. Maybe do more research before making claimes? As for the tires, you're reaching... a lot.
weight: they are heavy driver involvement: no gear change noise: none thats good to listen to agility: worse For a to b cars, theyre great but for performance cars, there is nothing I hate more.
I imagine a lot of these will be improved over the upcoming decades as battery tech improves. Valid points, hopefully they become less of an issue in the future.
Does this channel even acknowledge the existence of Tesla? No. 1: Doesn‘t apply to Teslas, which offer models with up to 261kph top speed No. 2: Doesn‘t apply to vehicles like Teslas, the e208 and the e Corsa at all. Ever sat in a Model S for example? No. 3: I use aprox. 18-20 KWh on the highway. That gives me well over 300km of range with my M3 LR. Supercharging takes 25 minutes. Just barely long enough to get a coffee at a service area. Don‘t see the problem here... No. 4: Yeah, they are heavy. But the only effects the weight has in an EV are the tire wear and the impact on handling. Thanks to regenerative breaking, the amount of energy flowing back into the battery is higher in a heavier car. Studies have already shown that the weight has only a marginal impact on the efficiency of EVs. No. 5: Guess that‘s the only valid point on this list. No objections here.
There's no sound of an engine that you can hear coming from a distance, so the potential for accidents will go up. There was a story on the news not long back of a blind man being saved from being run over by an electric vehicle by his guide dog. @@poyo3582 Tesla is working on a $25,000 car and once that comes out I'm sure a competitor will get one made for $20,000 or so, this may take 8 years or so but I see it happening in the near future.

@@elliottcarson1248 Why though? No one can force us to drive a slow shitbox
It seems Tesla adresses most of these (save for the weight). However in most real scenarios, cheaper EVs will be "good enough". Daily commute? An EV has no cold start and choke phase. Travelling quiet and smooth - take a Rolls Royce - or an EV. Price hike due to some middle east turmoil? Not with an EV.

This exact thing was done to a corvette, simply search electric corvette and you will find it
@@achilleaustin i don't think a relatively cheap ICE cars transmission could handle the high torque and the insane rpms from an electronic car
If you want fuel efficency and quick transportation without high costs, then make teleportation a thing.

The only thing i find that is a downside,is probably the electricity bill every time you transport from A to B.
Tesla:am I a joke to you?💀
Yes

I got one for ya, batteries are surprisingly combustible. You may say "so is gasoline" and yes, that is true. But here's the kicker, these EVs can catch fire more than once.
Gas still more, with a combustion car, you are literally carrying a bomb, if anything goes wrong, the car can explode and kill a lot of people,
By the other side, EVs don't tend to burn, that is really difficult to happen but it happens, but you have time to leave the car, and there's no explosion, only fire, so what youre saying, is worse in "normal" cars
@@den_bla_gripen2080 You watch too much hollywood movies, don't you?
Top 3 reasons why people buy electric cars.
1. They dont care about top speed FFS
2. Fuel economy
3. Often more reliable than a Internal combustion engine
KonyTookMyKid Eletrics reliable ? I highly doubt. I mean forklift eletric engines are reliable but in cars they are pretty bad
studies have shown most electric car buyers dont do many miles and dont go on the motorways or highways or whatever they are called in other countries, even those who own teslas with a much higher range, which suggests top speed is not a matter
oh yeah and this video is about electric car problems in general, not for a certain group of people...
Definitely not more reliable than an internal combustion engine. They barely work in the cold
Temperature extremes. Air conditioning in summer and heater/windshield de-icing in winter will consume a lot of power, greatly reducing range.
I’m honestly surprised that no one has thought of these before
everyone who didnt think of those before just didnt think about electric cars at all tbh..cause these reasons are pretty obvious..
The Tesla model s could do over 200 with a limiter remover
not even close, the tesla p100d has a limited top speed of 155mph so their electric motors don't exceed their maximum rpm and explode
That last point I think stretches to even hybrid and combustion engine cars with advanced infotainment systems and/or semi autonomous driving capability.
Honestly, some of these are plain wrong
1. Nobody in an EV is going to drive over 100 MPH and manufacturers want to advertise better range. Also , Tesla Model S Top Speed: 173 MPH Porsche Taycan
2. This isn't a big problem, many manufacturers have solutions to this
Tesla: have a higher roof and higher seats
Porsche: Footwell area that dips into the battery space
3. This was plain wrong. I chose the Model 3 as it has a low price and is popular
Model 3: 120 MPGe (Highway)
4. Many EVs compensate for this by its torque
5. Many companies have stated that they do not sell your data. They collect it for real life tests and comparisons and they do not sell it
Odd.. Most of these match my iPad.
Out of interest, what's the highway range on your ipad? 😋
Opening a flash game on the Highway.

6:16 too close to the sun, is it.
If you require speeds in excess of 100mph then you don't buy an ev built for urban driving/commuting,pretty poor arguments against EVs. The extra weight isn't really relevant,as electric cars have masses of torque, and the weight is more evenly distributed compared to an ice car.
Top speed problem is BS he just used the worst examples
Tesla model S top speed- 155mph
Tesla model X top speed-155mph
Tesla model 3 top speed-139mph
Tesla roadster 2020- 250+mph
Tesla roadster is a concept car, meaning it will never get made
The first one is kinda bullshit since its the acceleration people will actually use and not the ability to go over 100mph, Acceleration is whats actually the safer thing during accidents. I also don't think the cops would ever use the VW UP or E-up.. so its a little disingenuous to bring it up
This vid was very well commentated, u deserve more views

Well, I would not bash the electric car of it's speed too much because you cannot even use the top speed in America anyways even if you did have the traditional combustion engine. It would take the fun out of tuning but why would you need speed when there are so many rules to follow?
Ehhh Tesla has not any of this Problems they are improving their Range as well

Hes said emergency services can't use them because they only do 70 to 80 mph but a Mercedes sprinter van that can do 145mph is limited to 80mph if used as a ambulance so its not to bad for them to use electric vehicles
Emissions, due to their weight EV's emit a lot of dust from the brakes and tyres, which wear down faster. Also the batteries contain materials that are being mined using either children or heavy diesel machinery. Not "Zero-Emission" at all.
So are combuation engines.
Any idea how much energy they need to out into an engine block before it can be used?
The breaks wear far slower thanks to regenerative breaking. Most of the time stopping is through that, rather than the brakes. You could even drive with just one pedal if you wanted to. Maybe do more research before making claimes? As for the tires, you're reaching... a lot.
weight: they are heavy
driver involvement: no gear change
noise: none thats good to listen to
agility: worse
For a to b cars, theyre great but for performance cars, there is nothing I hate more.

No. 1: Doesn‘t apply to Teslas, which offer models with up to 261kph top speed
No.
