@@ym276 that's complete bullshit. Grandmasters ALWAYS completely underestimate memorization in chess. Chess is like 90%memorization. Do you think they spend 99% of their chess studies on memorization for fun even though it doesn't do anything?
It takes like 2 weeks tops to learn the various tactics and positional concepts. After that you need to get straight to memorizing openings and learning the plans and structures. This all requires pure memory. Of course you have to get on the board to execute the fine details but you review your games by looking back at all the data you need to memorize and further reinforce it. Chess is memorization. Nobody is good at chess without memorizing a ton of information.

I understand him.. He likes to play creative, and not everything like 'memorized chess-oppenings' (that would be boring). Bobby Fisher was same on this topic (thats why he invented chess960) ...Also for me its boring, when i see: my opponent memorized an oppening, with view variations. A good oppening can make big troubles later on - like it did to Carlsen in this game.. Thats why he said in the end: ''it wasnt a good game (because not interesting) , but it was a good fight'' ... I also prefer creative games, over ''book-games''.

Sacrifing a bishop against Magnus? Idk seems like giving him a win than going for the draw.

3:06 A few people have mentioned Bxa5 Qxa5 axb5 as winning a piece. Anyone have thoughts on the continuation Qb6 after axb5? Pins the white pawn to the unprotected queen and appears at the very least to only lose a pawn for black. Could Magnus have been avoiding a potential trap? I'm thinking of an eventual ...Qb7.
