Funny enough it was this album that got me interested in Opeth. I slept on them for years when I wasn't into the growls, which I F'ing love now by the way, This album dropped at the same time as the newest Tool album. Hanging at buddies house and he threw this album on, and I immediately perked up "who the F is that?" I think it was Heart in Hand, I binged the hell out of this album before I worked my way backwards to the other amazing classic's.
I'm another "late" Opeth fan. Only Heritage (2011) forward when they stopped the growling. :) Heading to Tallinn in September to see them. Also Tool. Saw them in Prague this May. And Porcupine Tree. Will see them in Stockholm in October. Oh and Haken. Was supposed to see them in Budapest in February but they cancelled. :(
The whole 'In Cauda Venenum' album is damn good. Dignity, Heart in Hand, Next of Kin, Lovelorn Crime, Charlatan, Continuum...seriously, the whole album is worthy of reaction.
Good freaking call man. it's the hard part about recommending songs from bands that tend to structure the songs as a concept album. Opeth does a pretty good job though of not making feel like you jumped into the middle of the song. Each song stands on it's own pretty well I think.
I'm the kind of person that loves listening to albums front to back, as the artist's intended. I liked this album well enough on my first listen. Now, it's one of my favourite Opeth albums, beside Ghost Reveries, Watershed, and Blackwater Park. It took me a good number of listens to really appreciate it fully.
“My Arms, Your Hearse” is an album that is never talked about and overlooked but is phenomenal!! Their entire catalog is incredible, which not many bands can claim!!🤘🏼🤘🏼
@@FASynergy I don’t know man ... I think it could have been mastered a little differently .. like in a more death Metaly/ heavy guitar sort of compositing and it would have been better... it’s definitely not bad, but it could have better especially it has some amazing riffs that wasn’t highlighted enough ... or may be I just miss the old heavy Opeth :)
The last few albums always bring me to tears. So much sorrow, pain, and loss that drains all mine from my eyes and ears. I feel cleansed every time I listen to them.
I'm sooo happy that you reacted to this song guys , it is different from all other opeth content you have done before, this is the new opeth , progry , somber , just beautiful man ; lots of love from chile !
YESSS, one of my absolute favorite Opeth tracks off of my #1 favorite Opeth album!!!! I hope you explore more of this record, sooo damn good! Love you guys!!
@@floridabelle When I first started listening to Opeth and appreciating them, Sorceress was recently out and there were no In Cauda Venenum. I didn't enjoy Sorceress so all I started to listen was their old growling stuff. For many years, their death-prog era was my favorite but that changed about 2 years ago after I started listening to 70s prog rock even more. But hey, if In Cauda Venenum is like a 10, BWP is like a 9.9 :D
@@mercerfrey9427 Thanks to Opeth I can listen to a few other bands with growling; not all, but some, such as Be'lakor, and Machiavellian God. There are others I like musically, but can't get past the growls or screaming (fry) vocals. I heard enough 70's prog growing up, so I'm burnt out on it. Heh, back then I didn't even know what prog was. Currently, other than Opeth, I love Leprous, Omnerod, ((Riverside/working on a new album)), Wheel, Soen, and of course Tool, but burnt out on them since watching so many reactions to them in the last 2 years. Having been born in '49, I've lived through music of the 50's, 60's to present. It's taken all that time for me to have a favorite band of all time, and it's OPETH, hands down.
@@floridabelle I completely agree that Opeth is the best band ever. The band that offers everything in the best quality. Have you ever been to a concert of theirs yet?
The great thing about Opeth is that *all* their eras of music are good. They're just so damned talented at creating and composing that no matter what angle they're taking, the music they make is ASTOUNDING. So they may have switched things up -- very 70s prog rock style now, but as Mikael has said: it's still heavy music. All I know is I love it all. Great reaction as always!
Indeed the last 4 albums are so different each other, this is the most theatrical to me, Sorceress is more doomy, Pale Communion I think is the most melodic and Heritage is the weirdest of them all
I know I'm not dropping patreon money, but you two really gotta do some more Mastodon! They complete the prog trifecta with Opeth and Tool. Studio versions of their songs only! Try out 'Hearts Alive'!
I get it, you have to have a little bit of old and a little bit of new. I dig it all. We all agree that this band is one of a kind. We Opeth fans are happy that we were able to bring them to you two because we know that you love them like we all do.
This album is super good, although i prefer the swedish version since the swedish language is more melodic than english and all the songs were written to swedish lyrics so it flows much better. Keep on rocking!
If that grief is still holding onto you, hearing the song's end is such a powerfully cathartic experience; it still makes me shiver and tear up like no other. Think the last song to do that was Tool's Parabol/Parabola.
Saw them play this love in Nashville at the ryman right before covid kicked off. It was my last pre covid show. This song was so fuckin good at the end.
Lovelorn Crime from this album is a must. From their previous album Sorceress definitely check out the title track and also Era, and from the Pale Communion album just check out..... well the whole album really but as many have already mentioned, Moon Above Sun Below is an amazing journey, but also check out Cusp of Eternity, Goblin, Eternal Rains Will Come. There's plenty of great Opeth left for you guys to discover, Happy listening to ya both 🤠
The patrons just threw you into the prog rock stuff without warning! Not a bad thing though. I've come to enjoy the newer albums more and more as I listen to them. I want Opeth to go brutal and dark again, but this is still amazing music. And you're right, Mikael's clean vocals have improved over the years. I kind of wish it had been a different track from this album, where he uses this really powerful gritty clean voice. It sounds awesome.
IMHO true fans of Opeth and music don't separate old Opeth from "new" Opeth. I absolutely LOVE their growl albums, but I adore their new albums too. It's just more Opeth and they're constantly evolving, as they have. In Cauda Venenum is an absolutely stunning album and the outro for ATWP is the most beautiful outro I've ever heard. Makes me cry every time, so bitter sweet.
Opeth is one of those bands where most of their songs are amazing, and some are straight up enlightening. This is one of the latter to me. To me, it represents the stages of grief; The horroresque, nauseating opening (denial.) The heavier, darker guitar/snare hook, cut with between with softer verses (anger, bargaining.) The descending bridge, with Mikael's voice small and desperate (depression.) And finally, a massive, major chord outro that fades into the future (acceptance.) All Things Will Pass. Such a great track. If I can offer a recommendation based on your reaction to this song/the things you seemed to like, I'd say Continuum and Lovelorn Crime off this same album are other staples.
Love the last 2.5 minutes. The rest of it is ok imo. I could listen to it if it came on, but it’s not one I’d put on a playlist or anything. That’s most of their new stuff for me.
Personally I like Opeth's newer albums. Just another era . I jump genre to genre in my personal listening ,so as much as I love the older albums, I couldn't listen to ONLY that. I did that morr in my teens , but had outgrown it by my 20s( I was playing in bands back then , the 80s , so I started metal , went through hardcore , found funk , which lead to fusion.....and I was always a prog fan, so by then I could shop the entire grocery store , not just one aisle 😉).
JINJER - CALL ME A SYMBOL New video just dropped xD Couldn’t be in the Game Over Gang this month so I hope some other people suggest this too :D. Your shirt reminded me hahaa.
Seriously, this album is worth it just for the solo on Lovelorn Crime, it's incredible! Whole album is ethereal and is up there with their best work in my opinion.
You guys need to listen to some stuff from their first record Orchid. You'll be surprised to hear some black metal tendencies on Mikael's voice and the sound of the guitars. I suggest "In the Mist she was standing"
Heritage marked a turning point on Opeth music. That made some heavier fans mad but... This sound was in Opeth all along... But with heavier rifs. The beautiful arrangements are still there. Mike's vocal in this album are so good 👌
Lovelorn Crime from the same album. It's the mellowest ballad they've ever done, but it stings deep
With possibly their finest ever guitar solo!!
The outro is absolutely triumphant, I adore it!
