Opeth - Serenity Painted Death
This is the first song of a concept album, you could keep listening to this one in order, or change to a completely different one and listen to The Grand Conjuration, When, Master's Apprentices or The Leper affinity...
Totally agree on the black metal sound. Anything from still life or before they had this sound
You should check out face of Melinda of this album too. Banger
this is definitely black metal. their first 4 albums are very folky and black metallish, though their most black albums are their first 2. If you want more of this side of Opeth, Advent, In The Mist She Was Standing, Forest of October, Black Rose Immortal or their first song without growls, To Bid You Farewell are good songs from this era.
Opeth - Serenity Painted Death
@@rmr5044 and best riffs ;D
I love the intro
Yessssss, please 🙏🙏🙏 and Godhead's lament 😜
One of their best!!!
God heads lament
Master's Apprentices.

Live at Shepherd's Bush Empire!
Vouch
Always.
I would like this comment but it has 69 likes
Opeth has utilized almost every good guitar tone out there.
it never sucks
Not HM-2 tho.
Simply not true. Pointlessly general statement.
@@MegaLaban12345 Is this all you do all day?

... and this is the opening track :)
Killer atmosphere on this album. My favorite from Opeth!
🙋🏻♀️ here for it
Old Opeth is the best Opeth. The first song I ever heard from them was "When" off of My arms your hearse.
Odd song to hear as the first. Great introduction to them though!!!!!!
The guitar work in Credence though
April Ethereal. It's still my favorite song with clean vocals section.
The 1st one for me was Porcelain Heart (love it too!) but I truly fell in love with Opeth AND finally started to enjoy growls in general with the second song I heard which was April Ethereal.
Orchid and Morningrise are my favorite Opeth albums
Moonlapse Vertigo off this same album is AMAZING. But really, every single song on this album is amazing. It's about as close as an album gets to perfection.
im glad they finally did a reaction from this album!!! I really think they should do a few more from this album before moving to another
Not close. This is the best metal album of all time and is itself perfection
@ Modern Wood Elf...totally agree. This album and Blackwater Park are perfection. Mikael said that he considers them a set. They were written in the same headspace.
Yes! Right after this: Ghost reveries
They need face of Melinda 🤘

Best track on still life
@@TheFbiFilesRepeat I don't know if it's the best track for me, but it has my favorite riff in Still Life, maybe my favorite riff from Opeth.
White Cluster! super overlooked
Check out Maria Kosma's bass cover of this song. Pro level is an understatement. She's in Chiasmodon and her solo project Emity Trap
This album is my favourite album of all time. Absolutely Flawless. Serenity Painted Death is an insane song from this album as you can tell by the name
I honestly don't understand why but Still Life is the growls-era album I listen to least often. Don't get me wrong, whenever I listen to it I do love it but, I don't know, other albums just seem to have more captivating overall atmosphere for me, I guess. And when it comes to just the atmosphere - Watershed all the way.
@@golgol4903 still life for me. The songs emotions and structure fit the story of the album so well
@@golgol4903 Watershed is prob my least fave from the growling era. I think I appreciate the more open chords (seems more creative to me tbh) even though Ghost Reveries is my fave album
The drapery falls - Opeth
Didn't they do that already? If not, ofc it is an absolute must.
Still Life is an essential album. A masterpiece of a song.
Now, Opeth - Moon Above, Sun Below or Faith in Others
Great picks! I love Voice of Treason and Eternal Rains as well
@@dougmcauliffe2253 Yup. River, too. PC is another essential album.
@@quadparents Totally agree, for me the only album that I enjoy more than PC is Ghost Reveries, though Still Life is very close!
Faith in Others is so incredibly underrated. No one ever mentions it.
Opeth - Serenity Painted Death
Opeth - The Drapery Falls
Opeth - Hessian Peel
The Whole Album " STILL LIFE" Is an OPETH MASTERPIECE!!!
This song kicks off the still life album. Without spoiling anything else, it tells the beginning of the protagonist’s story as he returns to the village he was banished from to reunite with his lost love Melinda. From this point anything else from the album would be great, Godhead’s Lament is next in the track listing but Moonlapse Vertigo, Serenity Painted Death, Face of Melinda, and White Cluster would all make great reactions from the album as well.
This album is just one amazing story! Still Life Forever!
benighted
I hope you listen to Still Life in order. The album is such a great experience.
That would be awesome
Thank you for the reminder of no spoilers. Edited version
The Leper Affinity, Hessian Peel, Heir Apparent, Serenity Painted Death, Windowpane, The Funeral Portrait
What a comment, love every suggestion. I’d swap Windowpane for A Fair Judgement. It’s my wife’s favorite and I think they would be blown away.
I’d recommend editing this they don’t want spoilers about the songs (whether it’s soft or heavy, how old it is)
Very helpful comment but goes against what they want I think
Acoustic, Harvest.
Heavy vocals display, Wreath.
You MUST react to "Godhead's Lament" from Still Life! It comes in the album right after The Moor. Definitely their most underrated song, and my own personal favourite.
You won't regret it!!!
Thank you for your comment, I was about to ask the same! Please go for it guys.
"Just a heads up please no SPOILERS ON Recommendations. We like to go in completely blind as possible. Thanks \m/"
I agree. I'd name an underrated Opeth songs list:
1. White Cluster.
2. Godhead's Lament.
3. Nectar.
4. The Apostle in Triumph (Almost the whole Orchid, actually).
5. The Amen Corner.
6. By the Pain I See in Others.
7. Beneath the Mire.
@@kirvergalarragacastro1448 Advent.
all of heritage
all of pale communion
all of in cauda venenum
all of sorceress
Godhead’s Lament is my fav track on this album
Opeth has dozens of amazing songs, but in my opinion (as someone who has heard all of them), this is their best one. It's certainly my personal favorite.
I'm an "Old Opeth" guy, but I can't wait to hear your take on the newer stuff. The last release is just wonderful.
Exactly.
The old stuff is great but you're doing yourself a disservice by missing out on anything from Heritage and newer.
Old Opeth is more better than now... which they have classic death metal vibes with darkest note.... i don't understand, why Åkerfeldt change his style drastically...
R.I.P OLD OPETH :(
@@nkrtzd99 he changed because it’s harder for him to physically do and I think he was just getting personally/creatively bored of that, wanted to try something new.
@@0rthogonal well really it has to do with age. James Hetfield can’t really do his signature young voice, and has difficulty with playing some notes normally, so he uses other methods.
Nah their prog rock era is so overrated. In cauda venenum resembles something of a decent album the rest is just exotic scales and pointless ideas which don't fit together. Death metal opeth is FAR superior.
It is time my friends for: Master's apprentices
In the conversation for the Nastiest Riff of all time....
If they do, I hope they do the Remastered Version. I like the Original sound too don't get me wrong but it's so powerful on the remastered version
@@Freedum_Fries I agree
Still Life is a timeless masterpiece.
Best album of all time for music history
Opeth Demon of the Fall !!
for what ever it's worth, they classify as "progressive death metal" but yes definitely have some black metal influence, especially the Orchid and Morningrise albums. Good video! Subbed
Your reactions are the best! Cause when you like something, you LIKE it! You get into it so much and look so genuinely happy. THAT is what music is supposed to do to you. Don't ever lose this passion!
The joy and mental therapy of it all is why we do this, the special bonus is that we get to share the experience with you all 🖤🌀🤘
I love that a reaction can turn me on to songs I haven't given much time to and catapult the song to the forefront. Thank you
Had never heard of Opeth at the time, but I bought this record randomly at 16 because the art looked interesting and the tracks were really long (they actually had the song lengths on the back of the cd). It was a saturday but I had no plans beyond going to town and browsing cds so I went home and put it in my stereo. For the first few minutes I thought it was on loop or something and was like 'what the fuck is this shit'. When the first scream(s) came in it blew my mind and its since been one of my favourite albums ever. It totally changed my direction in music as well and I ended up learning a load of their songs. A year later I went & saw them on their Ghost Reveries tour with one of my best friends and twice more since then. They really are incredible.
hey yes more opeth! please BURDEN next :))))))
This is one of my favorite Opeth songs. This album is my favorite too. I love both new and old Opeth. This band always fills the void in my heart. For me personally i have as much love for Opeth as i do Pink Floyd.
You probably know, but the last track of My Arms Your Hearse ( Epilogue), sounds like it could have come straight from a Pink Floyd album.
YES!!! Thank you for not picking among the same 5 Opeth songs as every reaction channel. You guys should try "White Cluster". It's one of the greates of Opeth's rollercoasters!!
You should react to this entire album guys ;)
Was listening to this and still life back to back on a bus every weekend. I was obsessed.
Guys!!!!! you throw me back to that specific day i heard this song for the first time
I was able to feel everything again just by watching your reaction!
I think it's time to see a video of them live, Opeth-Master's Apprentices (Live Shepherd's Bush Empire London)
They joy on your faces made my day. This is such an amazing song I really wish I could relive the first time I heard it, Im sure i was speechless and had that same look of joy as well.
It's time for another album. Maybe Watershed?
Opeth - Lotus Eater
Opeth - Demon of the fall
MORE OPETH PLEASE!!
I took a shot for every time you said "black metal". I can't feel my legs. I amfjgkelwqeitr. More Opeth reviews!
🤣
Hard to choose next song. Leper Affinity would be my pick.
This song is on my top ten of all time when it comes to the mighty Opeth
Yes!! Finally my fav opeth track!! Love your reactions!
Hell yeah!! As I mentioned earlier on another video; I highly recommend "Hessian Peel", and "Burden" from the 'Watershed' album, considering the backround of
the songs! If I'm not mistaken, it's about Mikael Aakerfeldt's (The vocalist and lead guitarist) former ex-girlfirend who commited suicide
while recording in the studio. Burden is really emotional, while on the other hand the Hessian Peel is maybe more on the heavier
side =) Either way, you cant go wrong!
The best Opeth reactions on UA-cam...thank you sir/madam may I have another 🙏🏻? My vote is Heir Apparent.
Thank you sir 😊
One of my favorite Opeth song 🎵
Opeth - Still Life is a masterpiece among many. 🇺🇸
Again, you made my day with this reaction! Thanks!!! Next if not yet any live song, maybe Serenity Painted Death, or Face of Melinda to be reacted! OR
MASTERS APPRENTICE!
Please more Still Life!!! Godhead’s Lament or Moonlapse Vertigo! You will love this album I think
I had the pleasure of seeing them perform this in person a couple of times. MIND BLOWING!!!
You really need to take a look at Opeth's Damnation album. Totally different in style and an incredibly heavy album in its own way. Start with the songs Windowpane, Death whispered a lullaby and to rid the disease.
damnation is a freaking masterpiece
Since Global Warming got blocked try Space Time pls.
Other essential Opeth tracks:
Demon of the Fall
The Grand Conjuration
The Drapery Falls
Hex Omega
Hex omega is not an essencial track...
@@lucianoastudillohenriquez2866 fine ehats the best track off of Watershed to you then?
I would suggest either Masters Apprentices or Hessian Peel next!
This song and The Leper Affinity are Opeth's crowning achievements. All opeth songs are fantastic, but these two are just in a league of their own. Two greatest songs of all time
Still life is the greatest album ever, facts.
the night and the silent water
Omg i was waiting for this!!!!! It's 2 a.m... but fuck sleeping I'm watching this!!!
Now that’s commitment 👏 🤘 🤣 ENJOY!
@@enitaly hell yea! I'd stay the night for Opeth!
Still Life is a concept album. You both need to listen to the whole album to fully bask-in the experience. Next track on this album is Godhead's Lament.
Yes, Thankyou! This is propably my favorite Opeth track. :)
MASTERS APPRENTICE!
From this album serenity painted death and god lament. Thank u to explore still life, 👌
great reaction! you should listen to "serenity painted death", from the same album
She's feeling it... dont worry we all are.
This is my favorite Opeth album! They are all great, but this has always been their best in my opinion. I'm looking forward to watching you listen to more!
Still Life is such an epic concept album, The Moor has been one of my favourite songs for well over a decade. The whole album follows the story of this man that returns to his home land from where he was banished, to find the one he loved. It's dark.
Next:
Master's Apprentices
By the Pain I See in Others
Serenity Painted Death
The Drapery Falls
YES i have waited for this !
your opeth reactions always bring me joy. true fans of the band know very well what you're going through when you experience them for the first time!
Morningrise and Still Life are my favorite Opeth albums
Crazy to think this album came out almost 25 years ago now.
Time for: Heir Apparent or The Drappery Falls
You will like AMORPHIS: THE BEE OFFICIAL LYRIC VIDEO, or AMORPHIS: SHADES OF GRAY OFICIAL LYRIC VIDEO.
Да , мы очень любим Opeth ...!)))
9:06 everybody reacts like this....🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Opeth is one of the best bands in the entire world, goes directly inside and touch every part of our soul, is absolutely necessary hear them with phones to appreciate every track, their songs carry you to other level of sensations.
Opeths, Damnation. The Whole Album!! lol Or if I were to say a song or two at least Do "Closure" and "To Rid the Disease" off the album... songs are short so do both! lol! I got goosebumps just from typing the song names lol!!
This album is a story. I cant wait for you to finish it. It could be written like a movie it's that good.
i suggest the rest of still life but especially godheads lament, serenity painted death and white cluster, those are monster tracks
Awesome reaction!🤘 check out the songs demon of the fall and when both are phenomenal.
Please do serenity painted death next!
Great reaction! I think you guys are ready for "Black Rose Immortal."
Unleash The Masters Apprentice upon these humble reactionists !
Then By the pain I see others may be the other song that will make you bow down a receive the Messiah of Metal into your hearts forever !
Now go forth and react . . .!
Loved the joy in your faces. Refreshing to see reactions to some older Opeth songs that are less reacted to on UA-cam. Thank you.
The sigh of summer upon my return
Fifteen alike since I was here
Bathed in deep fog, blurring my trail
Snuffing the first morning rays
Weary from what might have been ages
Still calm with my mind at peace
Would I prosper or fall, drain the past
The lapse of the moment took it's turn
I was foul and tainted, devoid of faith
Wearing my death-mask at birth
The hands of God, decrepit and thin
Cold caress and then nothing
I was taken away from my plight
A treason bestowed to the crowd
Branded a Jonah with fevered blood
Ungodly freak, defiler
Pale touch, writhing in the embers
Damp mud burning in my eyes
All the faces turned away
And all would sneer at my demise
Outcast with dogmas forged below
Seared and beaten, banished from where I was born
No mercy would help me on my way
In the pouring rain nothing is the same
Vows in ashes
I pledge myself to no-one
Seethed and spiteful
All shudder at the call of my name
If you'll bear with me
You'll fear of me
There is no forgiveness in these eyes
For any of you but one
Dispel the mist for now
Melinda is the reason why I've come
She is water drops over the pyre
A thistle in my hands
Stained and torn, aged and brown
Virtuous shell with kindred innocence
I awoke from the miasma
Passing swiftly through the moor
This is here, waters stir
And in the distance all that was lost
If you'll bear with me
You'll fear of me
You'd never leave me to
A fate with you
I remember the first time listening to the song and the transition at 10:20 here (while also having turned up the volume a bit in the quiet parts). Goosebumps, sweat and pure fascination! I was a huge fan of death metal since that day.
I was sort of on the edge about death vocals before that as a teenager... but man did that record change my perspective on what good growling can achieve in terms of emotional depth.
7:46 smoothest transition in existence
best track to get introduced to
I gave you a thumbs up just for reacting to this.
i have walked on many a moor wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This album was written as chapters to an overall story meant to be listened to like an audio movie. So, naturally, it would be cool for you to react to each song off the album in the track order. Thank you for choosing Still Life. This album is very special to me. I was getting tears in my eyes hearing it with you; it has been a while.
Windowpane , in the mist she was standing and To bid you farewell
i love the energy you two give us. makes me happy to see people enjoying music i love too. hard to find opeth fans where i live man. if you folks haven't heard or reacted to them yet Meshuggah is another behemoth you might enjoy. try listening to either Bleed off of their Obzen album or Demiurge from the Koloss album. heavy hitters for sure :D
OPETH=Epicness
Your reactions are epic.
Thanks for getting to this song. It's one of my favs. One of their best albums too IMO. Serenity Painted Death is another banger 🤘🤘
Lovelorn Crime - Opeth. One of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard.
If you want to dive in to the older Opeth, I'd suggest listening to Twilight Is My Robe and/or Black Rose Immortal, just phenomenal songs
Advent from Opeth
You guys are amazing. Love your real takes and reactions on these beautiful songs. Been a follower since the days when you recorded reactions in your car \m/
Man l have hered this song before but it have never hit like this!!! Thank you!!! I can not wait fore your next Opeth reaction!!! I recommend hessian peal! It is a bit softer and more of there transition but it is amazing!! I also recommend inward moment by Gojira :P love your reactions guys :D
Hours of wealth my song right now. Absolutely gorgeously haunting
