She told him a “secret” or something personal and she became a friend/family to him and he immediately became defensive and protective over her.

Denzel can always knock it out of the park when it requires stillness in the scene. The effect allows you the time to process all the layered emotions not spoken. In fact movies in general have lost this art. But Chloe steps in this scene and just doesn't skip a beat. She's done some really cool and fun stuff. But this scene probably did more for her in the way of opportunities than any other. Simply amazing to watch time and time again.

I love this scene. And everyone is going to get something different out of it.
But for me the most powerful thing is why she sat with him. "I just wanted a quiet voice" is her answer, but I think, it because she needed connection with someone who didn't want anything from her. And who didn't look down on her.
She lives a life where people look at her and they either see what they can get from her or they see her as worthless. I feel like the character could see McCall didn't see her like either of those. And she just wanted to enjoy that, if only for a few moments.
I don't think she was looking for help. I think she just wanted a few moments of peace.
