  • I show how I make swamp/wetland scatter terrain for my wargaming table using faux fur. Had some audio issues when recording, so I apologize that the audio isn't up to the usual quality!

    Used a number of elements from this tutorial to make a boggy pond, thanks for an inventive tutorial with a refine final product.

    I've heard of using fur for terrain but could never find a good tutorial for it. Thanks so much for this, I think it looks awesome and realistic! You did not mention it, but the dark undertone of the original fur colour gives it an amazing muddy look.

      Thanks! I think the brown fur did work well with the swamp theme, but golden fur has been my go to for grasslands recently...get a really amber waves of grain feel to your board.

    Thank you for this, I have been looking for something to do my swamp diorama with and I was really struggling. Saw this tutorial and I’m so happy.

    I have say Baron you did an outstanding job of recreating a swamp. The overall color scheme of the water looks very realistic and the whole model has the look and feel of a swamp. I learned quite a bit about coloring grass and adding clear resin. I am looking forward to your next tutorial.

    Great job! The idea with that fur is absolute madness!!! It looks like real grass! I think i would try for the first time to build some terrain. Thank you for your videos and tips!

      You are most welcome. Faux fur is amazing I keep trying to find new ways to incorporate it into nearly every project.

    The whole project looks wonderful (well done!), but I especially love that paint-and-comb technique for the fur. Wow... that looks amazing, and so realistic! Thanks so much for sharing it with us! :)

      Glad you liked it! Picked up the comb trick off of a blog, had used regular stiff bristle brushes before and it took forever to blend the stuff.

    Very awesome, indeed! Unfortunately I am modeling in 10mm & 15mm: so, I will need to find some shorter fur!!

      You could even use fleece at the scale and it would look great!

    Great tutorial! How come the fur doesn't get all hard and sticky with the color?

    • @RedBeardBaron
      @RedBeardBaron  6 років тому

      It's the combing that gets rid of the clumps which causes it to dry stiff. If you don't comb enough that will be the result so I usually err on the side of over combing.

    awesome terrain! what kind of airbrush do you have? I'm looking to get one to make my life easier but there are so many kinds :( I don't wanna end up buying a trash brush and compressor

      Thanks! I was in the same position where I wanted to ensure I had quality materials so I sprung for the iwata eclipse hp-cs and the sparmax TC-2000 compressor. Both are expensive but if you are in the states you can get them from hobby lobby with their daily %40 coupon. I highly recommend them both!

    How well do you think painting the fur would work if you didn't do the spray paint step and just went ahead with the direct paint?

    • @RedBeardBaron
      @RedBeardBaron  4 роки тому

      You can definitely skip the spray paint. I often don’t use the spray paint anymore.

    What separates faux fur from just fur?

    • @RedBeardBaron
      @RedBeardBaron  6 років тому

      Mostly it is synthetic and much cheaper. Also, not sure how well regular fur would take paint, but I'll have to give it a try with the real stuff some day.

    • @thewickedandwasted5910
      @thewickedandwasted5910 6 років тому

      If it's synthetic why did you say it's from a bear?

    • @neyjour2513
      @neyjour2513 6 років тому +2

      He said it's "faux fur" (which tells us it's fake/synthetic), and then by saying "grizzly bear fur" he's telling us exactly which type he's using for this project. Faux fur is not all the same. It can simulate many different types of real animal fur (a lot of which would not work for this type of project).

    • @thewickedandwasted5910
      @thewickedandwasted5910 6 років тому

      Oh. So he means the mat is trying to imitate bear fur. Got it. Thanks.
