Scientifically it’s “social bonding” or “strengthening social networks” but is human friendship really any different, apart from us humans doing things like going to the mall together or taking a road trip? I also like how the monkey and orangutan establish boundaries without ending contact or getting violent. Slowly gaining trust.

This probably marks the start of the maternal instinct in this young female orangutan, which is the strongest of all the great apes.
