I could've sworn I remembered one time you did call it a right-wing podcast. It was a while ago now, before Destiny's community really knew who they were. I think it was when they were debating Trump's Georgia phone call and Adam was defending it, so it was kind of understandable to think they were right-wing if you'd never heard of them. (Incidentally, Adam's changed his mind about the Georgia thing since then.) EDIT: Found it (after August replied). Not sure if UA-cam will allow me to link it but it's called "YOU'RE COWARDLY - Destiny Calls Out NuanceBro On Conservative Panel". Arguably that could mean most people on the panel were conservative - Nuance Bro, Actual Justice Warrior, and Aydin Paladin were all there - so I guess it's up to interpretation ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It turns out that people who disagree on political labels, political scorekeeping, media bias, what the truth is, what the best methods for truth seeking are, and what a truth seeker would believe given some set of facts are hard to argue with when every layer you go down, they jump back to the top of the stack with a label or generalization, a whataboutism, complaining about unfairness, citing a niche counterexample, appealing to being charitable, and finally being forced to concede a point when all ambiguity is investigated.
The easiest way out of the whole "Well what political isle are you? You said you were left but then you also said you were centrist" is to just say "I don't give a fuck about the labels, I don't pay attention to them. If you want my take on a particular policy point just ask me and we can walk through it. But I don't know or care to know what political isle you or anyone else thinks I fit in. Seems pretty divisive to me." That way you literally aren't pinned down. The guy in the top left for some reason said he was centrist then said he was left instead of just sticking to the destruction of the labels like he was preaching.

He started off on the right foot but when the guy used his own words against him he just dropped the ball and doubled down on being "liberal" because it was easier for him to answer the question of why he was generalizing the left. I'm saying he could've had the same effect and stuck with his original point of being anti-label for the sake of generalizations (which he did make, even though you say he didn't) if he had just clarified that he didn't care about being labelled one way or another and that he had policy positions that existed on both sides of the political spectrum. He then went on to say "A lot of times, political perspectives get in the way of deciphering what actual reality is." and before committing himself to being "leftist" he said he was "Team Truth". To me those all sound like they're anti-label. And I agree with those points, I just think instead of buckling down and finally saying "I'm left" he should've just went with "I don't care about the label, it's basically useless at this point in history, why don't we just talk policy?" instead of playing back into the game of "Well I guess you could say I'm centrist-left. Or Team Truth. Or I'm just Left but when extremists are talking it makes me not want to claim being left anymore." You need to have conviction in your decision to boot these labels, if at the end of the day you just fold back into them then why even bring up the point in the first place? You can see the guy beneath him nodding in confusion as the top guy says "No I don't believe I'm tribalistic at all." even though the guy below him just pointed out how he was being tribalistic by painting the left in a sweeping brush to distinguish himself from them. If he wanted to be truly not tribalistic then he wouldn't claim a "tribe" (or label) he would just say "I don't care about claiming a political sphere, I care about policy positions, let's talk about that."

The argument was that criticizing to the point of absurdity is a losing strategy. I think the reality is that critiquing a right winger's beliefs is equivalent to vilifying them. Ben Shapiro said something about Oppenheimer not having good political insight, and it got me thinking. Right wingers believe they have a profound understanding of life, which informs their political views. Scrutinizing these views, and poking holes in them is akin to saying their character is flawed, and their life has been wasted. They take it very personally. Contrast that with an insane progressive resorting to calling dissent "fascist" or "r4cist".

Yeah it's truly the sign of a progressive to be unable or unwilling to understand how your own side can engage in the exact same kinds of bad behavior as other political factions.
I have a lot of respect for what Adam and Sitch claim they are trying to accomplish, and I agreed with how they described their mentality and approach of understanding both sides, but I was so disappointed by how much they were "both sidesing" no matter how far things have gone. It's like there wasn't any topic where they could unilaterally say "Yeah, people on the right defending *that* are outright wrong, and it's beyond concerning." It's like they always feel that they have to be in the middle and there are always 50% reasonable opinions on the left and 50% reasonable opinions on the right on every topic. It was really frustrating to see the extent by which they're willing to both agree that what Trump did was really bad, but then also keep trying to downplay it or excuse what he did in any way possible. The fact that Sitch couldn't think of a way that Trump should be found guilty other than him directly saying he knew the election wasn't fraudulent, and then also not admitting his criteria was far too strict to be reasonable was so annoying. Destiny asked some really important questions closer to the end of the discussion to really hold his feet to the fire. It's such a shame. I really want Adam and Sitch to live up to the values that they claim to have. I think it's important to have centrists who can be reasonable, but part of that is recognizing that when someone like Trump goes way way way over the line, that they need to completely condemn it. If we were to go back in time to before Trump was president, tell people about what an upcoming president was going to do, and ask them if they support it, we would hear a very resounding *no*. But it's gotten to the point where Trump has made people more apathetic because of how consistently he's been behaving inappropriately for years, that people want to move on rather than uniting and punishing back against someone who tried to undermine the entire United States. And again, they agree he was trying to do that, so it's not even like they think that's an exaggeration, which is exactly why near the end Destiny said he's going to do some mind reading and say that they don't think it's actually as big of a deal than they say. He was absolutely on the spot by saying that at that time. I don't know what they actually think, but it was a perfect time and place to point out how inconsistent their arguments align with their values.

You can groom young adults, an 18 year old is still just as susceptible to those types of things as a 17 year old. Especially if some kind of power dynamic is involved. Large age gaps, bosses, someone influential, anything who holds power over another person. People do become less susceptible to grooming as they get older, but its still possible even for older adults as well.
And grooming doesn't just mean being a child predator. In fact, it was more often used to describe people over 18 grooming someone into wanting a relationship with them when they turn 18. It's different from just being a child molester.

11 days ago Destiny had an interview with Michael Malice where he specifically said we're ruining the country by seeing the other side as a political enemy, assuming the worst about them, and not having open conversations with them. He reiterated that point multiple times. Less than 2 weeks later he's here backtracking on all of it because this is just what he does: he says whatever he feels will get the most attention in the moment.

It lacks a scientific standard of evidence yes, but we can intuit this position from very real evidence of how the Republican party acts as a whole. When 70% of the party denies the 2020 election and I assume roughly 70% of the party will support Donald Trump's reelection, we can intuit from that. I have previously found Adam quite reasonable, but pushing on this point is... wild. Conservatives, as a whole, are lost. Period. I have a conservative buddy in the minority that identifies Trump for what he is, but it IS the minority in the party. 52:50 I'm sure a large amount of people in Germany didn't fully realize what they were voting for when they supported Hitler. An extreme comparison I realize, Trump is not a Hitler, but I would call him a slide away from democracy, and to be more accurate in the analogy, I'm sure people in Germany didn't realize they were dismantling their democracy leading up to that point either.
No he's making a joke about commenting on the video already despite the video having only just being posted. Therefore poking fun at all the other comments who act like they watched a 3 hour video in 27 seconds, without the self-awareness.
As soon as someone says something like "I'm on team truth" I start to doubt their ability to self analyze. Not a rule, you can say it and mean it sincerely but the ratio of people that care about truth vs the people who view themselves as caring about truth is like 1 vs 100.
They also sell free will on their Sunday Show. And Adam used to give people a 4 to 1 return for each dollar, but Sitch is too stingy. But yeah they have a liberal bias, but they are always asking for the evidence in claims to form the best opinions. Their rhetoric is to be able to hear out other sides of other's arguments and be able to repeat them without misrepresenting them. The comedy part of their show is that those who get made fun of aren't being strawmanned.
Sitch and Adam summed this conversation up pretty well. They explained that Cherry put them against of a bunch of progressives that they mostly agree with. So the only thing they have to debate about was this small 5% of their policies that they dont agree with. But despite agreeing 95% it wasnt enough for the progressives on the panel and it ended up being a progressive purity testing stuggle session. If cherry wants someone to represent conservatives maybe she should pick conservatives and not a couple of centrists.
This doesn’t at all seem like a fair summary. The debate was pretty explicitly about Sitch and Adam and their podcast, and what issues people more squarely on the left have with them. I also don’t think they even talked about policies much unless I’m misremembering. It seemed like it was mostly about the media landscape and Trump. Also, every person on the “left” side of the panel would vote for Biden, whereas even Sitch wouldn’t commit to voting Biden. That seems like more than a “5% difference in policy positions”.

Physical evidence would be a good start... You don't just say someone is bad, and keep saying they are bad. If you want to legally punish someone you have to present physical evidence. For someone like Trump, the kind of evidence you'd need to show that he was only pretending to believe he still won the election. Would be him conceding the election results for one... And would also be him not making accusations that the other side rigged votes. Or vote counts. The whole issue is over whether Trump thinks he won and if he thinks anti Trump people were behind changing results. You'd have to possibly have other close associates come out with written statements that Trump admitted to them directly that he was pretending the whole time or something like that. You'd had to catch him in the Lie or the admission of guilt.
I used to try finding common ground with people on things like gay rights, racial issues and religious extremism. That was during the Bush Jr era. I tried to do exactly what these guys are talking about, to imagine that some of them were just voting for lower taxes, or I'd try to understand why they believe their religion gives them the right to impose restrictions on others. Try putting up with that for 20 years. You eventually come to terms with the fact that these people keep giving power to those who would rather see you dead.

Centrist by definition is holding both values of progressives and conservatives. No need to claim one title when the more moderate or centrist one better describes your politics. They still care about making life easier for people and caring for people, while also having a strong constitution and less government corruption. I think the same as you about people not having the balls to say they don't respect the Constitution and they don't respect that the US is a united nation of 50 individual states. Destiny is pretty accurate. I used to be a republican and he's spot on in the way that Trump voters will completely deny reality on a wide variety of issues. For example when he said only guilty people plead the fifth, but then he himself pled the fifth over 400 times and none of them thought there was anything wrong with that. With conservatives they kind of become addicted to conspiracies and anger to the point where you can't have a logical discussion on a lot of subjects.

The problem that I have with conservatives (namely the MAGA, America First, and the Christian Nationalist types that have been politically poisoned by QAnon rhetoric), is that they have very little interest in checking their own bias. The amount of motivated reasoning they use to push their agenda is causing a real divide among the citizenry. They don't have the courage to face cognitive dissonance and admit that they've been duped by their political party, which causes them to challenge or outright dismiss the very evidence that proves it. They're too bought into a worldview that isn't going to work for people when you consider where we're going as a society in the future. Things like UBI and Universal Healthcare really need to be heavily considered because our social safety net is almost non-existent.
You understand that most conservatives if you ask them actually do want UBI and universal healthcare. They just don’t want to give it to you because you disagree on social issues.

I’d disagree, I think they are up front with what they believe. Sitch 100%. Maybe I’d agree that Adam might be a bit questionable at times, as he seems to prioritize optics/strategy which can question his candidness. But overall they’re way more genuine than 90% of people in this space. Also the “comedy show” is an in-joke and this was made clear. I hate when people bring up specific cases as examples to push their narrative and it's obvious they didn't actually even follow the story they are referencing. The Duke Lacrosse thing get's brought up as an example of "woeness" all the time, and it just wasn't. It wasn't some case of "believe all women" that caused the public to jump the gun and declare these three kids guilt. It was the racist slurs they admitted to using against the women, the fact someone at the party joked about raping one of them with a broomstick which scared the strippers into the bathroom, and most of all that one of the kids wrote an actual mass email saying he intended to rape and kill those strippers as soon as they got to the party. In hindsight, I get the argument that it was just an edgy joke of an email. But you can't write that email and then when one of the strippers claims wrongdoing, be surprised people think you did it. The take away shouldn't be that these kids were maligned. It should be that these kids were idiots. They did everything they could to put themselves in a terrible spot. Don't ever joke about killing service workers coming over to your home. And if they are sex workers, be extra careful! Don't act like you want to shove a broom stick in one of them, and don't call them racial slurs when they get mad about it! Hell, they shouldn't have even allowed intoxicated strippers into their home. Have that party at a club if you want to do all of that nonsense.

It turns out that people who disagree on political labels, political scorekeeping, media bias, what the truth is, what the best methods for truth seeking are, and what a truth seeker would believe given some set of facts are hard to argue with when every layer you go down, they jump back to the top of the stack with a label or generalization, a whataboutism, complaining about unfairness, citing a niche counterexample, appealing to being charitable, and finally being forced to concede a point when all ambiguity is investigated.

The easiest way out of the whole "Well what political isle are you? You said you were left but then you also said you were centrist" is to just say "I don't give a fuck about the labels, I don't pay attention to them. If you want my take on a particular policy point just ask me and we can walk through it. But I don't know or care to know what political isle you or anyone else thinks I fit in. He started off on the right foot but when the guy used his own words against him he just dropped the ball and doubled down on being "liberal" because it was easier for him to answer the question of why he was generalizing the left. I'm saying he could've had the same effect and stuck with his original point of being anti-label for the sake of generalizations (which he did make, even though you say he didn't) if he had just clarified that he didn't care about being labelled one way or another and that he had policy positions that existed on both sides of the political spectrum. He then went on to say "A lot of times, political perspectives get in the way of deciphering what actual reality is." and before committing himself to being "leftist" he said he was "Team Truth". To me those all sound like they're anti-label. And I agree with those points, I just think instead of buckling down and finally saying "I'm left" he should've just went with "I don't care about the label, it's basically useless at this point in history, why don't we just talk policy?" instead of playing back into the game of "Well I guess you could say I'm centrist-left. Or Team Truth. Or I'm just Left but when extremists are talking it makes me not want to claim being left anymore." You need to have conviction in your decision to boot these labels, if at the end of the day you just fold back into them then why even bring up the point in the first place? You can see the guy beneath him nodding in confusion as the top guy says "No I don't believe I'm tribalistic at all." even though the guy below him just pointed out how he was being tribalistic by painting the left in a sweeping brush to distinguish himself from them. If he wanted to be truly not tribalistic then he wouldn't claim a "tribe" (or label) he would just say "I don't care about claiming a political sphere, I care about policy positions, let's talk about that."

I think the reality is that critiquing a right winger's beliefs is equivalent to vilifying them. Ben Shapiro said something about Oppenheimer not having good political insight, and it got me thinking. Right wingers believe they have a profound understanding of life, which informs their political views. Scrutinizing these views, and poking holes in them is akin to saying their character is flawed, and their life has been wasted. They take it very personally. Contrast that with an insane progressive resorting to calling dissent "fascist" or "r4cist".

Yeah it's truly the sign of a progressive to be unable or unwilling to understand how your own side can engage in the exact same kinds of bad behavior as other political factions.
I have a lot of respect for what Adam and Sitch claim they are trying to accomplish, and I agreed with how they described their mentality and approach of understanding both sides, but I was so disappointed by how much they were "both sidesing" no matter how far things have gone. It's like there wasn't any topic where they could unilaterally say "Yeah, people on the right defending *that* are outright wrong, and it's beyond concerning." It's like they always feel that they have to be in the middle and there are always 50% reasonable opinions on the left and 50% reasonable opinions on the right on every topic. It was really frustrating to see the extent by which they're willing to both agree that what Trump did was really bad, but then also keep trying to downplay it or excuse what he did in any way possible. The fact that Sitch couldn't think of a way that Trump should be found guilty other than him directly saying he knew the election wasn't fraudulent, and then also not admitting his criteria was far too strict to be reasonable was so annoying. Destiny asked some really important questions closer to the end of the discussion to really hold his feet to the fire.
It's such a shame. I really want Adam and Sitch to live up to the values that they claim to have. I think it's important to have centrists who can be reasonable, but part of that is recognizing that when someone like Trump goes way way way over the line, that they need to completely condemn it. If we were to go back in time to before Trump was president, tell people about what an upcoming president was going to do, and ask them if they support it, we would hear a very resounding *no*. But it's gotten to the point where Trump has made people more apathetic because of how consistently he's been behaving inappropriately for years, that people want to move on rather than uniting and punishing back against someone who tried to undermine the entire United States. I used to try finding common ground with people on things like gay rights, racial issues and religious extremism. That was during the Bush Jr era. I tried to do exactly what these guys are talking about, to imagine that some of them were just voting for lower taxes, or I'd try to understand why they believe their religion gives them the right to impose restrictions on others. Try putting up with that for 20 years. You eventually come to terms with the fact that these people keep giving power to those who would rather see you dead.

As somebody who has lived around conservatives in the deep South, his entire life, I can tell you there’s not a single thing Destiny said that was wrong during this entire first hour and five minutes his summarization of trump supporters and what they believe in terms of the majority of the republican party is 100% accurate
Tbh as a long time SnA viewer this is one of their weaker performances. The main topic was quickly disgarded and it became something of a pile on. I think they were caught off gurad by the direction of the conversation.
Next time it'd be better to have a more clear cut debate topic rather than a tweet making a general statement

The problem that I have with conservatives (namely the MAGA, America First, and the Christian Nationalist types that have been politically poisoned by QAnon rhetoric), is that they have very little interest in checking their own bias. The amount of motivated reasoning they use to push their agenda is causing a real divide among the citizenry.
They don't have the courage to face cognitive dissonance and admit that they've been duped by their political party, which causes them to challenge or outright dismiss the very evidence that proves it. They're too bought into a worldview that isn't going to work for people when you consider where we're going as a society in the future.
Things like UBI and Universal Healthcare really need to be heavily considered because our social safety net is almost non-existent.
You understand that most conservatives if you ask them actually do want UBI and universal healthcare. They just don’t want to give it to you because you disagree on social issues.

I hear this on the right all the time “hey we’re socialists too why can’t they just abandon the hekin’ gays and help us destroy the liberal woke capitalist elites.” There are some people that do abandon the hekin’ gays (Jimmy Dore, Haz, Jackson Hinkle, Caleb Maupin), but in reality most people care far more about the social issues then their own material, physical and mental well-being. If you were to poll most culture warriors on a would you rather question. If choice A was losing the culture war and choice B was ending the world with nuclear weapons, then most of these people would choose B in a heartbeat. It’s sad, but unequivocally true.
I don’t think this is imposed by the elites although it’s being exploited by them for sure. Marx is gonna have to take an L for the next century because people would rather be wage slaves or even die with/without gay marriage then live happy fulfilling lives lmao.

@@3rdCoastAlliance Just from a light observation of the House's affairs on C-SPAN whenever a bill vote comes up, it seems like the issue with the "culture war" is that the Democrats are always adding some provisions to otherwise good bills that end up breaking them into strict votes by party line.
The concerns the Qanon people have if you dig down into their principles is they want to be left alone by Government.
The main problem conservatives have with progressives, is that progressives want change so bad, that they are willing to trash the entire constitution to replace it with some pile of crap that they can't say offers any solutions to social problems.
Conservatives would be fully on board with any and all Democrats if they agreed to leave the bill of rights alone, and if they agreed to transparency in elections and in government corruption.

Sitch and Adam are great. Occasionally, I think Adam in particular extends too much charity to conservatives, but for the most part they are very good faith and level headed.
Edit:Also, to be clear, I grew up in a conservative family, vast majority of my friends are conservatives, and for the most part I feel like Destiny's rant in this video is not too far off. Much of my family and friends have completely gone off the deep end.

I’d disagree, I think they are up front with what they believe. Sitch 100%. Maybe I’d agree that Adam might be a bit questionable at times, as he seems to prioritize optics/strategy which can question his candidness. But overall they’re way more genuine than 90% of people in this space.
Also the “comedy show” is an in-joke and this was made clear. They did keep the “bit” going for a while until Destiny probed about it, so I’ll keep an eye out if they actually have a pattern of trying to disingenuously hide behind that label…
But I’ll caveat that I find it extremely frustrating how much they hyperfixate on “problems with the left” to the point of nearly equivocating issues with the insane state of conservatism right now, or even making it seem worse. I hate when people bring up specific cases as examples to push their narrative and it's obvious they didn't actually even follow the story they are referencing. The Duke Lacrosse thing get's brought up as an example of "woeness" all the time, and it just wasn't. It wasn't some case of "believe all women" that caused the public to jump the gun and declare these three kids guilt. It was the racist slurs they admitted to using against the women, the fact someone at the party joked about raping one of them with a broomstick which scared the strippers into the bathroom, and most of all that one of the kids wrote an actual mass email saying he intended to rape and kill those strippers as soon as they got to the party.
In hindsight, I get the argument that it was just an edgy joke of an email. But you can't write that email and then when one of the strippers claims wrongdoing, be surprised people think you did it. The take away shouldn't be that these kids were maligned. It should be that these kids were idiots. They did everything they could to put themselves in a terrible spot. Don't ever joke about killing service workers coming over to your home. And if they are sex workers, be extra careful! Don't act like you want to shove a broom stick in one of them, and don't call them racial slurs when they get mad about it! Hell, they shouldn't have even allowed intoxicated strippers into their home. Have that party at a club if you want to do all of that nonsense.
