Stephen seems to be a genre reader , would love to ask him has he ever read The Left Hand of Darkness? Or Heinlein or Asimov or Clarke? There is other great science fiction.
I read Dune in high school and thought it was the most amazing book ever. Twenty years later it’s just a cliche-ridden pile of mystic nonsense to me. I’ve definitely gravitated toward hard sci-fi as I read more.
I read the Dune novels around the same age as Mr. Colbert. :-)

Look up his conversations with Paul Giamatti about their favorite sci-fi writers. They're both extremely well read in the genre.
