I'd just like to say that I thoroughly love all your lore videos. I normally watch at least one every day! Even outside of me trying to understand the mind-boggling maze of Warcraft lore, they're great stories in and of themselves; your research into them shows, and you're a fantastic storyteller. Thank you so much and keep doing you!
the reason warcraft lore is a "mind-boggling" maze, is due to the fact that it takes alot of, and VERY obvious, inspiration from other fantasy stories and mythology. its basically a Frankenstein monster, that is stitched together by many bits and pieces from all sorts of cultures and mythologies. for instance, the "old gods" are litterly a copy paste of the "Old ones" by the famed author H.P Lovecraft. their portrayel, and even their names reflect The Old Ones by Lovecraft. Cthun=cthulhu, Yogg-Saron=Yog-Sothoth, etc.. there is a billion refrences. the lore has also constantly "reinvented" itself each time it has expanded. 80% of the stuff going on in WoW these days were never a thing back during the original Warcraft days.
Yeah. I find it really awesome that it incorporates so many elements of the ancient mythologies and fantasy stories that I read so much of and loved when I was younger. I've found similarities between the format of Ancient Greek classical mythology and WoW- everyone seems to be related to or involved with one another by some degree, despite the huge scope of characters. I guess that's simply a marker of a good story too. I found it hard enough to keep up with that sort of thing at university in classical studies. I was seriously considering drawing up a mythology tree as I've never been good at the whole family tree/who's related to who and by how much type thing- let alone when alternate timelines appear and the story reinvents itself frequently as in WoW. It doesn't really impact on my enjoyment of it though. Every time I play, it's like the kid inside me comes alive again, and a big part of the fun for me is piecing everything together and seeing where it goes next.
Yay, The story of Anub'Arak, I don't know why but he is one of my favorite characters in Warcraft and I'm very glad that you covered him. Thanks Nobbel!
In the RPG, the Nerubians had actually come to distance themselves from the Old Gods, and no longer worshipped them like the other Aqir descendants. Their logic was that following the Old Gods "Makes as much sense as a fly caught in a web worshipping the spider who is about to devour him." Though this is from the RPG, I think it's still canon considering that the modern Nerubians were still fighting the Old God forces of the lower kingdom.
I play these videos to learn background of characters but after about 45 seconds I zone out and next thing I know the videos over and I started all over again just to zone out again
@Nobbel87 Could you maybe talk a bit about the hooded figures who stand/are on the sides od the dark portal and inside Black Temple etc? I've always thought about who or what they are... Maybe Guardian figures of some sort?
+HeWhoMustNotBeNamed Hhi! But what i've read on other pages sounds so interesting. But I didn't bother digging to much, So I thought if anyone can do it, it's Nobbel! :)
Although this rugged, bare-bones possibility is likely to not-happen, I just tossed this together, if Blizz were to bring Anub'Arak back again, again AGAIN. I could imagine the current King raising Anub'arak, Kel'Thuzad, and Arthas (is that even possible? If not, the Death Knight player would be called again to do a thing) to make the Scourge's unstoppable trio again, and to realign the Scourge in all it's shattered might to be swung against the Burning Legion. Imagine, in a time of despair on the Broken Isles, a massive army of Scourge would descend upon the Legion, and leave them screaming in terror as their own allies' bodies were turned against them, against their will, by the direct intervention of Anub'arak, Kel'thuzad, and [The Player, if he/she is a Death Knight], and heroes who fell would become Death Knights themselves, if their souls were willing.
I think that's most likely, otherwise they wouldn't have fought against the faceless ones whenever they re emerged. Once the Old Gods were sealed away they were Nerubians were on their own program
Dont remember any mention of Yogg'Saron or the Old Gods by the Nerubians during Wc 3, it seems to me that they most likely have forgotten the Old Gods' existence and became their own masters.
I know this may need to be split into more than one episode or a long special but a video about the Old Gods would be interesting as i was not really aware of what they where until they started to whisper in a certain Hearthstone expansion.
The Nerubians were attacked because they had trurned away from the old gods. After their defeat by the troll empire they lost their faith and rejected them.
This lore only confirms that Shadowlands was a great expansion. It explains that the Void and Death were in conflict this entire time. It fixes the questions this lore gives. He's coming back for The War Within. Mark. My. Words.
Dang. I didn't know about that spell. I thought the nerubians had rebelled against the old god's control. I would love a history of the Aquir video! Bug empire history and how they're similar.
Nice summary and history Nobbel! How about some Lore about the Black Knight? The quest line in WoW was decent the encounters memorable. Plus I think he's making a return with the Old Gods HS xpack (not 100% on that though). The mounted combat aside (so disappointing) it was a fun addition to the Argent Tournament content.
Hmm, maybe the Old Gods had their n'raqi fight the nerubians, because they wanted the nerubians to fail? Maybe they wanted the Scourge to get stronger as a part of some bigger plot? Maybe because the Scourge intended to summon the Legion, which we know that the Old Gods had tried before as a part of their plan to set themselves free? Like Blizz said, they kinda poorly addressed the part that Yogg-Saron was supposed to have in the Lich King's and the Scourge's story.
hey nobble could you do a video about the void lords. I had never heard of them until recently but there has been a lot of talk about them lately, and how they are far more powerful and dangerous than the legion and even Sargeras himself.
Nerubians weren't even aware of the old gods or faceless one by the time of warcraft3 and were surprised by their presence during the war of the spider. Chances are that they actually broke free from their influence and started their own culture. They are unique from the other aqir in many ways because they ruled by a patriarch rather than brood mothers, had their own faith (separate from old god worship) and have a much stronger sense of individuality than the Slithid and Mantid.
Where was it actually stated the nerubians served yogg-saron? I would've just assumed so as well, seeing how qiraji serve c'thun and the two share a common ancestor in aqir, but I couldn't find a clear statement of the nerubians' servitude to the old god, and the quest text of the faceless ones clearly implies otherwise.
Hey nob just a little theory I have I remember reading that the living nerubians did engage in somewhat friendly relations with other races in North rend in particularly dwarven explorer's and dwarfs were also helping nerubians fight the scourge and faceless during the arthas campain in 3 I think maybe unlike the other aqir they cut ties with the old gods and that's why they attacked them yogg saron might have seen them as traitors.
hey nobbel. I love your videos and i'm a fan of warcraft lore. I read the books to get complete details about characters and wars and i wanted to know if there's a chance you could add in the description of the video from what books and/or comics you get the info. Just the name of the book(s) or comic(s) would do it because i know there's plenty of stuff to do in a game to get information from a character. thanks
Nobbel since we are trying to get the Elemental Lords on our side in Legion and we make Thunderaan the new lord of air, who do you think could possibly take Ragnaros place as the lord of fire?
Nobbel! Please pretty please do a lore vid on a card from the new expansion(whispers of the old gods)called the Fallen Hero. It really makes me curious, is it a "player" or adventurer that died, or something else. pleaaaaase! Love your vids, Stay awesome! Also a vid on ragnaros the light lord would be hilarious...
With the amount of stuff going on in legion with the death knights pretty much raising anyone "worthy" of serving something greater, I honestly wouldn't mind this overgrown bug getting resurrected once again to serve as a general for the new lich king's growing armies.
Hi Nobbel, Im writing you again! Please, make a video about Finkle Einhorn and The Beast (& The Beauty + their pups). Im big fan of your Legion/Lore videos, and I hope that The day of core hounds will come eventually.
Hey Nobbel Just a thing i was wondering, you have said that the akir were changed as they served different old god correct? well in the card text of N'zoth it does relate to him being under the sea, does that mean we may find an aquatic akir or would do you think that the insects would struggle to swim and we may find different minions serving him? Love you videos Matt
So is a void caller a demon or more like a servant of the void lords because sargaras is apposed to the void lords in his own destroy the universe so it can't be corrupted and maybe it will have a chance in the future thing
Have you considered that the Nerubians might have detached themselves from the goal they were born for and just wanted to, y'know, live their lives as spider people. :PSort of like how the Mantid still worship Y'shaarj but see his Sha as a crictical annoyance that keeps getting in their way?
Hey Nobbel, theres a woman in the prison of Yogg by the name of Sara. Is she just there as a mechanic part of the fight, or is there really some entwined lore there? its just always made me curious. anyway, love the vids!!
i believe the Nerubions no longer focus on the Old God Yogg-saron anymore and became enemy to old god cause of them no longer Worshipping him anymore, but thats my specalutation :p
+SuperCool Chikorita I'm pretty sure that's correct, actually. I'm certain someone said something about the Nerubians no longer worshiping the Old Gods.
+Master Xehanort :From a quest in Mists of Pandaria "Great was the Old One, and terrible was his wrath. He consumed hope and begat despair. He inhaled courage and breathed fear. When the Usurpers came, the ones you call Titans, Y'Shaarj was destroyed. He's got my vote.
+ravenssorrow isn't the same thing that would happen to all of the old gods when they die? wasn't that the reason why titans let the other old gods alive ?
I'm not sure if you've already done a video on it but do the Pirates of warcraft have a story? or are they just plain pirates that don't really have any interesting story to tell?

+Noggen i can clearly hear Generals, Maybe you just got a weird mind.
+Noggen Goddamnit! I cant hear anything else now except ''faceless genitals'' D:
Thanks for the bed time story, Nobbel! Every time Hearthstone lore comes out, its about my time to go to bed! Just love this timing!
Buddy, you do these better than any of the hardcore HS players could ever do. Please keep up the Solid work.
Next card to talk about should be N'zoth
n'zoth would be great but even in the chronicles there's little to no information about it. is there any book about it?

Meh I was pretty sure that Nozdormu was higher in votes but I probably missed some multiple comments and votes.
Although this rugged, bare-bones possibility is likely to not-happen, I just tossed this together, if Blizz were to bring Anub'Arak back again, again AGAIN.

"and they said there's no bugs in blizzards games." - Anub'arak
I had assumed that the Neruibans unlike the Mantid had turned away from old God worship

+FUmarc Doronsmovies did an awesome video on all of the insect races

Thanks for upload.
Could you do a video about the Kingdom of Alterac and the possible whereabouts of Isiden Perenolde?
Nice summary and history Nobbel! How about some Lore about the Black Knight? The quest line in WoW was decent the encounters memorable. Plus I think he's making a return with the Old Gods HS xpack (not 100% on that though). The mounted combat aside (so disappointing) it was a fun addition to the Argent Tournament content.
I thought Anub'Arak willingly joined the lichking even in Life and that was why He was called a traitor
Hmm, maybe the Old Gods had their n'raqi fight the nerubians, because they wanted the nerubians to fail? Maybe they wanted the Scourge to get stronger as a part of some bigger plot? Same
hey nobble could you do a video about the void lords. I had never heard of them until recently but there has been a lot of talk about them lately, and how they are far more powerful and dangerous than the legion and even Sargeras himself.
N'zoth lore, from what I understand it is incredibly sparse compared to the other old gods.
THE STORY OF THE WISP! MAKE IT HAPPEN!
Playing him in Hots and he's so much fun!
I'd like to hear and see the story
of Old God N'zoth.Even doe i think there's not much about him in WoW.

Hey Nobbel, theres a woman in the prison of Yogg by the name of Sara. Is she just there as a mechanic part of the fight, or is there really some entwined lore there? its just always made me curious. anyway, love the vids!!
wasn't she just a illusion from yogg?
Oh I asked for this one!

i love your vids but how can you have one of anub'arak and not kel'thuzad?? he plays a way more vital role in the rise of the lich king then Anub'arak
We know all there is to know about old gods. Do Soggoth the slitherer instead!
i believe the Nerubions no longer focus on the Old God Yogg-saron anymore and became enemy to old god cause of them no longer Worshipping him anymore, but thats my specalutation :p
+SuperCool Chikorita I'm pretty sure that's correct, actually. I'm certain someone said something about the Nerubians no longer worshiping the Old Gods.
Do Shifter Zerus next
The Ancient One next please
I cast my vote for Y'Shaarj. One of the most badass baddies in the Warcraft universe.
why is he badass,
+Master Xehanort :From a quest in Mists of Pandaria "Great was the Old One, and terrible was his wrath. He consumed hope and begat despair. He inhaled courage and breathed fear. When the Usurpers came, the ones you call Titans, Y'Shaarj was destroyed. His last terrible breath has haunted this land ever since, but the shadows he left behind are mere whispers of his former glory." The titans killed him and he still haunts the land through the Sha. He's got my vote.
+ravenssorrow isn't the same thing that would happen to all of the old gods when they die? wasn't that the reason why titans let the other old gods alive ?
Master Xehanort
He was such a threat that the Titans had to kill him first. And none other than the head Titan himself.
+FlameAggron I remember it that way
