Liked the even sound of Superlux. Most kicks end up with EQ pulling down in low/low mid no matter what you use. If it has attack then I don't have to boost. The PA has a separate sub therefore punch can be added if wished. Bottom line, a smooth tight mic is easier to work with IMO.
I'd still save up for a Shure Beta 52! I've used it for years in live situations tried loads of other mics aswell but not one comes close to the versatility of the Beta 52. If I need lowend it's there topend no problem attack theres loads of. Good for Bass too. I even go so far to say that if I'm short on a vocal mic I believe I could use it for that aswell :)
Audio files on dropbox are super mega usefull, thank you ! the EV & superlux are really close soundwise. I also like the Tbone a lot, such a big low end but it might lack some clarity and need another mic for the "click" of the batter. AKG seems a nightmare to deal with, too thin in low end, and too much treble so it catch too much snare and cymbals.
I know you tested with only one kind of bassdrum and mic position. But which one do you think fits best for a vintage boomy sound from a small 16 inch closed reso bassdrum?
Awesome man! I appreciate that especially because I want to start learning how to record my drums decently to do drum covers on my channel but I’m kinda in a budget 😂
whats the reason not to include the best pop/rock/metal/live BD mic for no money: Behringer ba19A .. just curious?.. nice video and good playing though! Just missing the best one :-) .. out the ones you tested, the EV takes the cake in allround usability
Hi Simon, sorry but I don't know English, I'm using Google Translate, so sorry if it's misunderstood. Great your video and comparison. I'm a bass player, and I'm looking for mics for miking bass cabinets, in my country (Argentina), I only get the AKG P2, and the Superlux Pro 218A, could you recommend which one would be the most suitable for my need? Thanks for your opinion, greetings.
Hi Walter. Thanks for your comment. It depends on which sound you‘d like to achieve but I would rather go with the Superlux mic because it’s pretty equal balance between low end and attack. The AKG has less low end. does this help? //Simon
Mag eure Tests sehr.... würde mir an dieser Stelle einen Vergleichstest von hochklassischen BD-Mics wünschen..... ja, davon gibts schon massenhaft, aber noch nicht so viele mit dem Earthworks mit dabei.......
What about stuff like the old Yamaha Sub kick or other massive diaphragm stuffs anyone still make stuff like that? I like the low low mmmm rumble & boom like a timpani in a small room!!!🤪
Hai hello ... Are goods shipped from thomann and put in one parcel, or does each commodity have shipping charges? Is it possible to ship to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia? Please reply soon
My personal favorite was the superlux, followed closely by EV. The AKG sounded horrible to my taste, but I can see it being used in certain situations.
That´s how you do a proper comparison! Thanks a lot!!
I got a used AKG D112, works for me. :) Nice comparison! These grooves in the beginning and end are insane... you my friend are a real groovemaster!
Thanks man. I also use a AKG D 112 at home. Works totally fine. Thanks man! Really appreciate it! 🙏🏻 //Simon

The t.bone was very good for that price.
Snare, tom and overhead comparison next please!! :D
Jep. Coming!!! 😀 //Simon
Soy gran fan de superlux , pero me gusta el Ev , solo por un poquito. Exelente video 👍

Hi Mikael. Thanks for the comment. I am also a big fan of the beta 52! It will definitely on the list when it comes to mics that cost more than 100€!

Hi Philipp. Thanks for the comment. t.bone surprised me too. Love the low end. Cheers Simon
I wish you also did a comparison with a normal microphone (such as one used for vocals).
Good playing but its difficult to hear the kick mics with the cymbals etc crashing away over top ofthem
I would argue that this is the Sound the listener will hear, and if that's good, thats all that matters

The AKG Perception P2 looks to be identical to the MXL A-55 🙂
You should do a drum microphone kit comparison at some point as well! (especially affordable ones to see if you can get a half decent sound with them)
Thanks Edgar. It‘s on the list and will come soon. //Simon

you write that the t-bone is good for hip hop and reggae... yet. is it better/more preferred than the others for reggae? peace & happy 2021

Thank you very much, you have been very helpful 👏👏👏 , regards
I'm surprised about the Superlux. The EV sounds good to me too. Hmmm... 🤔
Listening blind, I liked the Superlux the best.
Turns out I own it, just with a different branding (t.bone as part of the dc4000 set).
Danke dir. Komplette Mic Sets kommen auch bald! //Simon

Yeah the subkick. Great add on for a fat kick sound. Will be in the vid about mics that cost more than 100€
🤗 😃🥁

Same here. Superlux #1 and EV #2! //Simon

The AKG Perception P2 sucks. I have it. Too thin and terrible issues with bleed. I have a Samson Q-Kick and that blows it out of the water.
Isn't it Bend it like Beckham?
I only know „kick it“ 🤷🏻 //Simon
auf Englisch heisst es nicht KICK it like Beckham sondern BEND it like Beckham.
(genau so strange wie Cellphone mit "Handy" zu uebersetzen)
emad with a pillow? blasphemy!🍻
akg d 112 is a nobrainer
