    Barbie, don't apologize for how you speak! If someone is "bugged" by it, that's their problem and you don't have to apologize at all. Love your videos and your voice, don't let anyone say anything else!

    A W S O M E !!! Thank you. My only complaint is that I wish I had found your site sooner !! I'm a 64 yr young cancer survivor, who wasn't supposed to survive, that has taken up collecting, tumbling, polishing, and with any luck, making items of various kinds of jewelry to give and leave my kids and my grandchildren. So I'm a Maximus-Newbie. This has already been a great help in my quest for knowledge! I will be a studious follower. THANK YOU x 1,000,000 is an understatement.

    I’m lucky to live close to a flea market, that’s a great place to go to touch lots of glass, paperweights, and all kind of rocks. There’s a crystal dealer, there’s a guy who sells stuff from nearby mines, sometimes an estate sale will include a rock/mineral/crystal collection. That’s how I practiced touching to feel the differences. I did get tricked a few times with beads that look like that malachite strand! Too uniform. With real crystals the beads will vary a lot, some almost solid color, others with more variation.

    I bought rose quartz that said semi precious. I strung them and found out they were dyed as my stretch cord went from clear to pink! Thanks to you I now know what to look for in my beads. I love your videos.

    Really great video! The Michael's malachite is definately manmade. However just a word of caution about using keys to 'scratch test' the hardness of authentic malachite. Real malachite is actually quite soft on the moh's hardness scale, 3.5 on the scale. And most metals that keys might be made of (steel, nicklel, bronze, brass) are also about the same hardness on the moh's scale, 3-4. Because of their hardness, keys might be able to scratch a piece of authentic malachite.

    It annoys me to no end that Michaels doesn’t label their crystals…. I want to know what I’m buying! The only Michales crystals I ever bought were a black agate ring and some (dyed) imperial jasper beads

    I'm actually glad to know there is a lot of fake malachite out there. I see a lot of jewelry pieces that are likely to get wet and if they were real that would release gas and be bad.I figured some were fake but now I know they probably are.

    I was looking at those when I was there last. I did notice some of the labs looked pretty fake to me, well either fake or suuuuuper low quality labradorites. I was really dissapointed in michaels for this. The ones I'm talking were the cabs they had packaged and hanging above the tumbles. They were not transparent or even had a flash, they were just gray with some lines and a bit of white i think.

    great video thank u, but you forgot to mention something which i think is important, the strung beads at michaels (or any other big chain arts and crafts stores) are from China and the polishing may look really nice but it is not the same as it would be in the jewelry beads from authentic crystal/metaphysical supply stores which are high quality polished beads, the polish is not great quality or i think it could also have some type of shining coating on them

    When it comes to the price, for some reason michaels and most craft stores have a foolish business strategy where they mark everything up to be 2x the actual price and then always have a 40% off one regular price item coupon on their website and often put things on “sale” for 50% off so people feel like they’re getting a deal . So If you want to buy things at the normal price you have to buy them one at a time or wait until they go on sale 50% off . It’s extremely inconvenient !

    I wonder, what's the difference between good polish and bad polish? do they use a different machine? the fineness of the stones is different? (one is rougher, the other is more round?)

    • @littlemissgumflette3204
      @littlemissgumflette3204 2 роки тому +1

      The difference between high & low quality polish is just the amount of time spent polishing. Tumbled stones are exactly that- tumbled.. but it appears that the labradorite (& even the tiger eye) had been pulled out of the tumbler prematurely. Tumbling stones is an extraordinarily lengthy process tho, usually takes a minimum of 4 cycles with 4 different grit gradients, from course to fine aluminium oxide. Each cycle requires a MINIMUM of 3 weeks, but for best results 6 weeks per polish. The skull is polished by hand with a high powered rotary tool, same procedure of course grit to high polish & much faster in comparison to stones in a tumbler but the difference is only the time spent polishing the surface.
      Btw that skull IS amazing!!

      i bought the Labradorite jar yesterday on good sale, and its got flash, but like Barbie says, its really low quality polish, very rough on some. Wonder if there are local people that will polish them? Gonna Check. The Tiger's Eye is 3/4 good, then about five rough tumbles. Nice tho.

    I would like to point the statement glass will shatter, crystal never will. This is slightly misleading. Yes, regular glass compared to something like quartz crystal of course that will be the case. But high quality artisan glass compared to more fragile crystal like selenite, the selenite will be the one that shatter first. In fact it's so easy for selenite to shatter.
