I would love to see that Cummins repowered Massey in the field. I bet it sounds and performs great. If Massey would have done this from the factory, they’d be all over the place.
I bet if Massey had that engine from the factory, no jackshaft issues, and no dual hydraulic pumps run off of belts, they would have sold a lot more of those good looking old girls.
It does work well with pump on engine. Having said that my 3208 has never had any issue once I took the matching belts rule seriously, I can’t argue with all the stories though. Just like them for a cheap puller without any issues (touch wood)
That one with the Cummins sounds awesome! I never was a fan of a V8 in any tractor. I bet Massey wished they had an engine like that from the factory! How’s it perform compared to the other?
Andy Berryhill it’s as you would expect from a Cummins, unbelievable torque compared to a 10.4l The v8 tractor is in great shape so I want to pull the 8.3 tractor in and do the cab kit, change the hose route, change exhaust location, paint, and tires just never seems to happen
Lift Boss I know how that goes. I’d like to switch my single 23.1x30 tires for 18.4x 38 duals. And put a 700 series 1 Versatile cab on my 145. And paint the whole thing, run better wiring and hydraulics. But, I have a few other projects my wife would rather see done first. How much do you farm with your tractors? I don’t even have a big enough farm to need my Versatile, I just didn’t want to see it go to the scrap yard. And, I love Versatile’s.
Hahaha I’m probably in the same boat. I actually have just over 400ac but I only farm about 150 and my dad does the rest. I just see them cheap and grab them. I have a forklift repair business that is my focus but hard not to love old iron. A bit of an addiction I guess. I have flipped some to make some coin but usually regret selling. I think I would be lucky to need even half what I have I’m a big versatile fan, but only two in collection they still bring enough here for there condition
Lift Boss you have 2 Versatile tractors? What are they? The one I have was owned for many years by a farmer friend of mine. He lost his legs above the knees in an accident. The 145 sat for years, and when I asked him about it, he gave it to me. I love old tractors, and would fix them all if I could. The old 4wd ones are my favorites. I could get used to those old Massey’s. Knew a guy that had one. He liked it. I might talk my wife’s uncle into letting me pull a no till drill next year.
I’m sure he wouldn’t turn down free help. I have a 118 versatile that is rough you can kinda see it in the background of the Cummins start it was basically free and the versatile 300 I paid a bit for but is in great shape apart from paint and weathered tires. I bought a 500 for scrap to get rear fenders on Massey then my dad got it and it turned out to run really nice with a little adjustment. Too bad about your neighbour but he probably likes to see the repairs on it
Needless to say I’m impressed with how the 8.3 started

@@kslift5334 How big is the hydraulic pump you have on it? GPM & PSI.
