That isn't true and hasn't been for decades at this point
That used to be true for very low end ARM SOC based devices, not anymore. Most of the current handhelds above $70 usd can run N64 no problem. If you go up to the current smartphones with snapdragon SOCs they can also run Playstation 2 games. My Galaxy s20 runs Gran Turismo 4 flawlessly and its 3 years old already.

@@alexisrivera200xable indeed, PS2 emulation has had much more development time than the N64 had, it wasn't until very recently that the 64 got some love.

The little gray one is called the m17 handheld there is a software released by another youtuber and it improves some of the issues with the handheld and gives you original aspect ratio

To be fair the little switch fake knockoff not running n64 games well let alone running them at all is kinda surprising since the n64 is crazy hard to emulate
Also, the N64 just ran terribly even when it was working.
Mupen uses workarounds, but if you play on an actual console or a super-accurate emulator like ares even simple games can run like slideshows.

@@asra-5180 it took like a decade for mupen to get to where it is, and even then it's still plugin based. PJ64 has been dated for years. And all of these are as said limit removing emulators, so that just means they're even MORE taxing on a system.
Also why did you list Retroarch in a list of emulators when it's a frontend?
It's so odd to me how few people in this community (ie retro gaming and tech) actually get how emulation works.

N64 had textures that looked like wet soup and the PS1 had crazy distortion, texture warp, and all the polygons jumped around like the characters were having seizures.
For a PC gamer (me) seeing what console gamers thought looked good, was a laugh. Can't feel immersed in a cutscene when all the characters look like they are having a seizure.
@@asra-5180hard to emulate 100%, doofus. The emulators have trouble replicating the frame buffer effects of N64, even the emulators you mentioned need to be tweaked almost for every different game, due to this.

unless they've changed it, the X80 Firmware doesn't allow creating save files for games, you have to rely on save states.

GTA runs rough even on more modern hardware, the android port is especially bad.
15fps is playable i'd say, anything under is unplayable
For $40 to get up to PS1 emulation isn't half bad. Especially if the hardware isn't too janky
There's better hardware for the same price as far as I'm aware. Like the POWKIDDY v90. Hell, any android phone these days can run PS1 games very well. So all you'd need to grab is a cheap controller attachment or something.
@TakiUdon made some videos about the smaller one, it's called M17 and there are models out there that have an M17 branding in the lower left corner of the screen, I think yours does too, but it's hidden by the bezel!

Shame they still make them because it's totally out of date now.
Tried different ones like these, were ok but always had issues. Decided to buy a vita for 100 quid and a 3ds xl for 50 quid and after homebrew hacking them both i have the best cheap handheld emulators in my opinion. The 3ds plaays all the old consoles and 3ds, ds stuff perfectly and the vita runs n64, playstation, psp, vita and more plus all the older consoles as well. Since they are proper consoles their batteries and controls are perfect and you put the games on yourself so you know where they all are.
It's hard to recognise some of your videos from the thumbnail. Add your logo or something else consistent. The green background is good but there are also some videos without it.

Apparently the grey M17 has alternative/updated firmware that fixes it according to other comments.
X80 is your typical shitty handheld with that abominable firmware but the M17 is actually very decent for its price!

As long as you dont want to use rumble or motion controls, get third party. Some work great, some require wall charging to use.

Well, it probably CAN play doom. It just has bad N64 emulation, so its preinstalled copy runs like garbage. Doesn't mean someone with a maxed out Autismicality skill tree couldn't get another version of doom to run on it... Now, if anyone would bother, that's another matter.
It can almost certainly play ps1 doom.

The second, smaller handheld looks like it's taking advantage of the power of Open Source software. The bigger x80 looks like it's using in-house chinese slap-together. It did somehow seem to run PSX not half bad though!
I wonder if the N64 emulator it was using was a more accurate core, something like Parallel needs more beef to run well. I wonder if it can be switched to use Mupen64 and see how that performs by comparison, assuming it's not using it already, as it did run PSX very well. (PCSX ReARMed probably) I feel it may be using a version of EmulationStation, which can be configured.

Now the grey ones are $50 USD, even if the systems can't play the games it's still worth it imo to just copy/paste the micro sd card to your pc to not only back them up since the cards are usually knockoffs but also to be able to play them on your pc
You can buy an m17 128gb version for like $45 and it has 30000+ games (i have one, 3D games like 15fps (gta vicecity stories runs fine but 2D games run 30-60 fps and it has e football 2023😂😂😂
I'm sorry to sound PC but can you stop putting "China's" in front of things. You don't represent 1.3 billion people nor is this a representation of. Simply put, if this was the other way round, would you says China's Real Switch instead of Nintendo Switch which is manufactured by Foxconn, a Chinese company? So why is it okay to do it the other way round? Yes, the fakes happened to be "Made in China" but that has nothing to do with the country or people herself nor do you know if the idea was even from a Chinese person.

these aren't new, and they aren't switch clones. they're emulator consoles, and they've been around a LONG time. some of them resemble a switch, but some resemble anything from a gameboy to a sega genesis controller with a built in screen.

I picked up a few of the x20 Minis.
They play, but incredibly slow.
I've tried changing the SD card with a few different ones using the same file structure but It wouldn't work until the Original Junk SD card was back in them
Did you flash the image to the new SD cards? You can't just copy and paste the files, it won't work.

yey lets promote piracy. do a video on the asus rog ally if you want handheld. this is just promoting piracy since you don't own those games! I have a rog ally and have emulators for all my favourite games on it, and i own every single game that is installed. only ilegal thing is i also use a switch emulator on it so it replaces the switch, but thats more on them for making it only one console exclusive, and i still own the game.
Nobody except for the video game companies care about piracy of retro games. A lot of these old games don't even have a legal way to purchase them and enjoy them on modern hardware.
Developers don't make any money off of the sale of used retro games. You can feel free to chill out lol

N64 is just a real pain to emulate. This device not being able to do it is pretty much par for the course.

1. Back up the original card immediately and use a good card. The cheap ones tend to be slow and are prone to die.
2. Get SpectralElec on the M17, it will work even better. Not much can be done for the X80.
Really want to get some bang for your buck, get a R36S.
Just want super cheap fun? SF2000 and the GB300.

Even the orginal Doom was unplayable on the gba and sp. Gave me such a migraine when I played it. Though it was going to be like the pc version. I was wrong.
The problem with the m17 is the cpu is a cortex a7. Youre better off getting an RG35XX H for like $60 USD.
